Mailata had his fare share of problems but Opeta was only a few inches better than Brown. It will be interesting to see what the tape shows. At this point it would be stupid not to sign the guy from Buffalo. If not we really need Seumalo back at LG and Herbig at RG

I'm telling you it's something with this scheme that Schwartz runs.  Some of the worse CB play I've ever seen has been with the Eagles the last 3 plus years.

Our new CB coach came from Atlanta I believe.  Their secondary has been bad too for years.  Shouldn't be a surprise.

I was staring at the TV saying "WTF” until they showed that he was running 21+ MPH — apparently the fastest any QB has run in two years.  It was just another example, however, of how badly our LB just get washed up into traffic at the LOS.

Could have used Davion Taylor on the field for that play.

I’m rewatching the final two drives, I must have been too busy posting, but that DPI against Bradberry in Fulgham was ... really bad.

I give Ward a lot crap because I don’t like him as our third receiver, but he made some big boy catches. His touchdown was a really good playcall, but he really did a helluva job holding onto that pass. Harper got his hands around both of Ward’s arms. That wasn’t an easy grab.

He has the best hands on the team, Wentz trusts him, and he knows how to find the sticks for a first down and is competent in the red zone. I don't know what else people want for him. He'll never be the best receiver on the team, but he's a guy I want out there. He belongs as a #4 WR on this team moving forward.

i see a lot of jason avant and / or greg lewis in ward.  not gonna be the flashiest guy on the field, but he'll catch those passes.

I’m more mad at Graham forgetting what the hell he was supposed to do.

The Giants scored three TDs tonight...

1) LeBlanc for whatever reason tried to strip Tate instead of tackle him.

2) Graham didn’t have contain on Jones‘ 80-yard run.

3) LeBlanc needlessly grabbed Tate’s arm for a DPI on third down.

Those were killers. The defense was really good tonight, but three bad individual plays just wiped it out.

A make up for the atrocious call on NRC that gave the Giants first and goal on the one instead of 4th down.  Receiver runs straight into him, doesn’t do anything but try to box him out, and NRC knocks the ball away.  The DB is allowed to have his left arm where his was as long as he doesn’t turn the receiver

Opeta seemed to get pushed back instantly whereas Brown got tossed aside which took slightly longer

I listened to the first half on Westwood One Radio in the car, got home at halftime and watched the second half on FOX.  That was about as ugly a win as you can possibly get; the Eagles offense looked absolutely lost when it got to the red zone.  Any efficiency at all near the goal line, and the game wouldn’t have been close.

Ross Tucker was really critical of Wentz’s decision making in the first half and called him out on at least three really bad throws.  Without seeing the plays with my own eyes I just need to take his word for it — but the INT was really bad.  I saw that one replayed during halftime.

DJax can be shut down for the rest of the season IMO.  I feel better with Hightower running the deep routes and getting more snaps.  The guy gets open, and his deep catch turned the game around.

The OL was not very good at all tonight, but Wentz needs to make the throws as drawn up, on time.  He’s definitely holding the ball too long, which isn’t helping.

I need to see another angle on the INT. It seemed to me like Hightower either stumbled or got hit around the 5 yard line. He should have been there with the DB for a 50/50 ball.

Effort is non-negotiable and absolutely necessary. NRC should be benched for it. It was sad to watch.

Graham and the LBs were lost on that play for sure though.

Overall, I thought tackling was pretty rough on D tonight.

So I’m watching the final drives...

On that Hurts’ two-point conversion play, if he faked a draw, he had the safety drawn in and that would have left two blockers on two defenders in front of Scott at the top of the screen. Something to file away.

Herbig needs to give 15 pounds to Opeta. He’s way too light.

I think you’re right, but he’s at best throwing a 50-50 ball to Hightower. That’s just not smart there. No excuses.

It makes me wonder if having Opeta next to him for the first time affected Mailata's play.  I'm not sure who played LG next to him for the SF/PGH/BTL games, if it was Herbig all 3 games or not.  He was solid those 3 games with tonight being his worst game.  Not only did he get beat on the outside by a speed rush at least 2-3 times, but he was also getting pushed back into the pocket where his first 3 games he was pretty much stonewalling the DEs.  I also think the short week might have something to do with it.  It was his first game (and only his 4th game starting) coming off a short week.  He's a really big guy and I'm sure he needs ample rest to get back on track.  This is why I hate the Thurs Night games when they don't come off 2 teams bye weeks.  Greedy NFL wants 16 weeks of Thurs Night games when they should only have them the opening week of the season and after bye weeks.  Let the players rest.  But these greedy a-holes want an 18 game season and more teams in the playoffs.  They don't care if they run their players into the ground and water down their product with more injuries.

Doug needs to throw every 2-pt play and every play designed to be ran inside the 5 into the trash. Re-install that part of the playbook. It is a disaster.

You’re right. I thought he was farther behind when he gave up on the play. I rewatched it, and he quit pretty quickly. No excuse for that.

Okay, so let's get this straight. When Carson Wentz dives untouched into the endzone for a two point conversion against the Falcons last year, the conversion is overruled because his knee touched down before the ball crossed the goal line. The rule is that a quarterback is deemed down in situations like that. He is considered to be "giving himself up" when he goes down. Okay fine. So how the hell does Daniel Jones get credit for an extra five yards when he falls down untouched after his long run? He dove down at the thirteen yard line and rolled another five yards. And the officials gave it to him.

What am I missing?

I'm happy about the win, even though they didn't play well.

One thing that has started to bother me about the defense is how they perform when the other team gets to the red zone. Does anyone else remember the 2010 season when Sean McDermott became our defensive coordinator...how brutally inept they were any time the other team got down there? It kind of became a running joke for me. It was almost like they parted the Red Sea and just let the other team score seven points. It's starting to feel like that again.

Especially without Sanders on the field.  The Eagles just don’t have a bonafide short yardage RB

He didn’t dive to the ground. He fell down.

Two things need to be cleaned up ASAP:

1) the OL; and

2) the red zone play calling.

And how are they not related?

An ineffective OL, no TEs, no lead RB.

Available talent is not the only reason for RZ struggles, but it's the biggest one.

oh even with sanders 100% healthy, i bet there'd be a good chance he wouldn't be in the play called.  it would either be scott or clement on the field.  maybe hurts.

edit:

i was hoping they would use mailata as a rb/fb...  but tackles are a premium for us right now and who knows what wonky hit he could take.

I don't really see the distinction.

The main issue is the OL can't get any push on those plays. All the zone read and QB runs aren't really working. We're going to have to throw the ball.
