Well, Barnett has officially been put on notice.  If he doesn't drag himself out there for week 2, you can pretty much write him off as a high first round pick developed into depth.

The Eagles already picked up his option to the tune of $10.1m next year.  What are their options to get out from under that commitment?  That is $10.1m of cap space they desperately need.  He was initially a candidate for an extension to bring that # down, but I don't want to extend him unless he's getting paid like a backup DE.  And with the writing he can see on the wall, there's no way he and his agent would want anything but that $10.1m to play for 1 year.

When i went back and watched it again I would put in order of best to worse lineman like this:

Kelce

seumalo

driscoll

peters

herbig

Kelce and seumalo didn’t have great games but i do think some of that falls on kelce trying to make up and help herbig. I thought seumalo had an ok game.

Some random catchup thoughts from the past few pages

- Slay shutdown McLaurin without getting safety help. Yes he gave up a few catches, but this is what good #1 CB looks like. Slay looks great.
- Jason Peters wasn't good, nor was he bad. The only sack he gave up came when Clement chipped Young OFF Peters. Peters had him blocked before Clement pushed Young off of him. Other than maybe Nick Bosa in week 4, there will not be a single pass-rusher as athletic as Young that Peters will face this year. That includes Watt and Lawrence. Peters will look better.
- Herbig, for a bigger guy, struggled in the run game. Getting zero push from a guy his size is disappointing. Pryor should be in for him.
- Schwartz wasn't gassing up Sweat: he looked good. Of course, Washington's LT is bad. So if Sweat can beat up on Whitworth, then we really have something. Otherwise, Sweat is just a guy who will get 5-6 sacks a year beating up on sub-par OTs.

FWIW, Caplan said the reason they didn't play Pryor is because he had a really bad camp and coaches soured on him. Even on 2nd team RG he was struggling.

How does this happen? Last year they did nothing but brag him up and he even played well in a backup role. This year he stinks? I say BS!!!

Probably makes him our best DE for 2020 and definitely our best for 2021.

Without going back to watch and based on the rumblings, I think the consensus is that Mailata held his own better than expected.

It's very apparent the coaches have zero confidence in him, which is understandable given that the guy has not played football.  But some times you need that "fish or cut bait" push in to the fire.

If Lane comes back healthy, then Mailata and Driscoll should get looks at LT.  Let's try to stop bouncing them around.

It would warm my heart to see Jason Peters on the bench as the swing tackle.

At this point they won’t do it. I’d try putting Driscoll in at right guard. I know he was supposed to be cross training. Frankly i think he’s hold up better at guard than herbig and pryor. I think if peters continues to struggle (likely) you go try Driscoll at LT and figure out guard. Frankly I’d still sign Glenn to be a backup. Imo he’s better than herbig and pryor regardless of what people want to say.

Yeah, it's a problem, not with Pryor, but with foresight.

If, as a GM and coaching staff, you believe Herbig > Pryor > Mailata...and you've got one mid/late round rookie (Driscoll), rounding out the OL depth...they should have sounded the alarm long before Dillard and Brooks even got hurt.  If Herbig is seriously the best of those 3, then their entire OL depth doesn't belong on an NFL roster.

And, because NFL karma has a cruel sense of humor, that's the position that got wiped out with starter injuries.

I already think Sweat ( our Sweat) is a better player than Barnett but it's a good problem to have . Derek plays pretty good once the motor's switched on. Problem is there aint always somebody at home in the Bell tower.

But if it were up to me I'd start Sweat over Barnett anyway.

That said how bad must Glenn be?

People will continue to get "upset" with me but I'm not changing .

This Sunday I think the Eagles BEST Option is to line up Mailata Seumalo Kelce Peters Johnson . In that order.

This is not unreasonable.
We may see Jack Driscoll at RG instead.

Depends on how unrealistic his asking price is.  The lower it is the worse everyone must think he has become.

Frankly beginning to look like Glenn was brought in as a chip in the peters negotiations to LT.

That said, not as if the eagles have been expert in the area of scouting either. I’d still argue he’s better than any of our backups besides Driscoll. And the eagles are stubborn to admit when their guy might not be good enough

For the love of god just try to keep the OL shuffling to a minimum.  Lane comes back, great, keep everyone else where theyre at

what did anyone expect?? These guys haven’t played together.  It was going to look like crap against Washington.

if we keep shuffling the OL, prepare for another disaster on Sunday

I support the Driscoll to RG. If peters continues to look atrocious then i think about bouncing Driscoll to LT

I must've missed this, but I'm not sure that was a prudent thing to do. Maybe it was a hedge against Sweat and any prospects being available in the draft but still.

It's really just procedural. They still have time to pull it. Whether they actually do or not is another question.

Barring a catastrophic injury we can decline the option.

Depends on what we are trying to accomplish.

If you really want to just stay under the radar and maximize chances of winning the game, then you go LT Peters, LG Seumalo, C Kelce, RG Pryor/Driscoll rotation, RT Lane.  See who keeps it clean at RG and leave them in.

If you want to try to test the waters for some long term upside at LT, while keeping an experienced OL around one novice, then you go Mailata/Seumalo/Kelce/Peters/Johnson.

And if you want to say, F it, F you Peters, we are diving headfirst into the future, you go Mailata/Seumalo/Kelce/Driscoll/Johnson.  That's just too much inexperience though...and I think Driscoll profiles better as a LG with Seumalo shifting to C next year.

I'd probably go with your lineup, as much as I want to see a clip of Peters sitting along on the bench with the offense on the field.

Yeah I don't think they'll move Peters once he moved to LT,  I'm just saying I don't think what they have is their "BEST" option. Can they make it work ? Sure but Peters at 38 isn't a LT anymore. He'd be a great guard and would immediately FIX all those Nate Herbig nightmares everybody's having.

People are just scared out of their minds to let the crazy 23 year old play.
