If a guy can't return a punt for fear of injury, what is the point of having him on the active roster?

For starters, your #1 (or even #2) WR does not return punts.  There's a reason just about every NFL team follows that logic.

And you certainly don't have a 34 year old WR who weighs 175lbs return punts his first game back from injury.  One of the dumbest moves I've seen this coaching staff make.  And trust me, I defend this coaching staff everyday around here...but not this time.

God I hope reagor has over 100 yards in this game so I don't have to hear the people on this board whine about him for another week. I know they're waiting to scream "sEe we sHoULd hAvE dRAfTEd jeFfeRSoNzZzZ!1!1!!1!"

I don't think I'll complain unless he starts always getting injured. I was more pissed off about the QB in the 2nd round

I was able to see my nephew play football a few weeks ago.  On Senior night, no less.  And they won in a blow out.  It was a lot of driving......but it was well worth it.  Anything else that happens this football season is a bonus for me.  I just want changes to the FO for the future.

I don't see any changes to the FO if we win the division

Wes Walker returned punts for years with the patriots and he caught a lot more passes than DeSean. You can’t treat them with kid gloves. He was back there for 1 punt also.

I think missing in this is that it was also a clear cheap shot by the defender, one that wasn't called, by the same guy that took a swing at ward after his td. Dude should have been ejected from game and fined.😡

Wes Welker is a completely different type of player.  He's a stocky slot receiver not a slimmer, "deep threat".  Apples and Oranges.

I guarantee 31 out of 32 NFL coaches were like, "What the hell were they thinking?"

Bad, bad decision.

He's just playing in the wrong era.  He would have been great in the ages of hard hitting safeties.

How many consecutive games played without injury would be sufficient to put DeSean back at punt returner? 4 games? Would he no longer weigh 175 pounds at that point?

I seriously doubt that. There was no issue sending DJax back there. Unfortunately he got hit with a crown of a helmet and then late hit.

That would have happened to anyone.

DeSean asked to return the punt, and he is not doing it regularly, it was situational.  Alvin Kamara has situationally returned punts and kick offs this year, and he is the best player on the NO offense.

I wouldn't put him back on punt returns unless it was:

A. A playoff game with everything on the line and they need a big return

B. A must win game to make the playoffs or the season is over...and they need a big return.

That's it.  Period.

Kamara is a RB in the prime of his career...there literally is NO comparison.  Zero.

It was a dirty hit.

That's the reason you don't put your top players on punt returns unless absolutely necessary.  Anyone who has watched football more than a week knows that special teams players are notorious for dirty hits and go "all out" when hitting whoever has the ball.  That's exactly what Special Teams players do!

Please list all the returners hurt on dirty hits this year, we will wait.

Hargrave, low-key, has been one of the worst FA signings in a while.

30+ years.  Probably as long or longer than you.

That's because most coaches don't have 34 year-old WR's who weigh 175 lbs (coming off injury) returning punts.

So none then, got it.

So what is your favorite Desean Jackson memory?

The miracle in the meadowlands 2.  When they absolutely needed him to return the punt and he was 10 years younger.  Apples and Oranges.

High-character + elite athlete gives him a chance.

I don't think people appreciate how hard it is to make the tackle on a kickoff when the ball is kicked to the opposite side. And he did it at the 20!

I miss when taters used to measure their fandom by post count...😒

So the dirty plays only happen when the player is 175 lbs, 34 year old and coming off the bench?

There was certainly a risk there but even Andy Reid didn't have Jackson return punts that year (on a regular basis) ..as young as he was.  I guarantee there's ZERO chance Reid has Jackson return punts as a 34 year old.

meh... he was injured. Who knows how much its still affecting him. Hopefully he still rounds in to form at some point this season. If not, Id still expect to see a good season out of him next year. If he still sucks then, hes a bust. Now? Not yet.

If you post June 1 trade him save a bunch of money next year. Problem is you’d have to find a team willing to take him on with how he’s played and I’m doubting the eagles give up on him this early

Ahh.  You just said you don't put one of your top players back to return punts unless you absolutely have to.  Which they did at the Miracle in the Meadowlands 3 (not 2).  And he was a lot more valuable to the team back then, then he is now.  And don't you think it was absolutely necessary last Thursday when he was in?  They were trying to catch lightening in the bottle again.  And according to you, he is one of their top players.  So which is it?  You're contradicting yourself or getting your story mixed up?

You don't put your 34 yearold, 175 lb top WR on punt returns.

Maybe in a playoff game but that's about it.

Reid did it when Jackson was 24/25 years-old.  Huge difference.

Javon Hargrave is playing with a pec strain, that might actually be torn. Playing DT with that is tough sledding.
