Our worst loss this season is the game DeSean got the most targets.

Right.  And how many of them went 5 yards beyond his head?  Don’t go there.  Trust me.

Rush!

Makes a lot of sense. We have a need there and he was decent last year in his role as a 4th DT. Only got released due to the numbers game. I would welcome him back for sure.

This Smith, LB, I don't know anything about him though.

Are you just permanently wasted now?

No.  You don’t lose your top WR on special f’n teams in the NFL,  Coaches literally get fired because of  that nonsense.

I seriously doubt the thought process was who can get us 11 yards on this return...

It's about which player has the greatest chance if making a play for me. Desean in the last 4 years 11 yard long PR 4 years ago, ward 11 yards this year. Recent history would suggest that ward would make as big a play as desean would no???

One can say well in the past desean has shown to be explosive PR which is true, and in the last 4 years he has shown to not.

Seeing as in the last 4 years deseans longest PR was 11 yards 4 years ago and wards longest PR 11 yards this year I'm gonna say ward had a higher probability of getting at least 11 yards and a higher probability of not getting hurt as well.

You haven't been watching Ward very closely then.  He's never made anyone miss.

Clearly Bill O’Brien was fired for using injury prone William fuller on a punt late in a game to try and hit a homerun to win it. That was obviously the reason he got canned.

It's ridiculous.  At this point I don't care if he is LT or RT.  If Mailata isn't on the field as a part of the starting 5 that's a huge mistake by the Eagles.  He's been their 2nd best lineman the last 4 weeks.  You need to let him keep learning the NFL game.  Not gonna happen on the sideline.

Ward has never 'made a play' as a returner...  ever.

He’s also fumbled multiple times on of his 16 returns (this year and last). And he had one just a little earlier in the week vs. the ravens at the end of the game. That also plays a factor.

BTW, Desean is a bad choice as a punt returner at this point, but Ward is worse... blame Howie.

He was undrafted out of FAU. That’s all I got.

Honestly that’s what this comes down too. Greg ward should not be returning punts for the Eagles. Desean shouldn’t be returning punts but somehow he’s still a better Option for a homerun play to change the game at this stage of his career then Greg Ward as a punt returner. This falls on the organization for not going out in addressing this when we’ve talked about it being an issue since Darren Sproles got hurt in 2017

So it's been "easier to swallow" seeing him injured by running routes the first few games?

GMFB

We get it. You're upset your favorite washed up WR got injured....again.

Trying to spin your fanboy into anything logic is just silly.

If Dax is so great, why on earth wouldn't you want him back there to get a big return in a tight game with one drive remaining? I mean, isn't that what yes kind of known for?

He played the whole game and had 3 catches for 34 yards, but we need him healthy on offense? Hadn't done much up to that point, had he?

Do you not understand why your favorite player volunteered to return the kick?

Teams don't put prolific players back when they need big plays? Or is he just not prolific to you to give him a chance there?

You make zero sense.

Thinking desean is going to make a play on a PR because he did so 5 years ago is a pipe dream.

It's as much a pipe dream as thinking peters can still play LT at a high level.

Putting desean out there on PR increases chance of injury and any chance he actually makes a play is lower than the risk he gets hurt.

Cost benefit analysis suggests it was a bad investment.

They addressed it in at least some part by drafting Reagor.

Sounds like a Greg lewis KR situation.☹️

Irrelevant.

Thinking Ward would ever make a play is more a pipe dream, and Desean did get them 15 yards... which is better than letting that ball bounce, as hes apt to do and let the Eagles' O get buried at inside the 10.

Sorry, you have no leg to stand on in this discussion... and I would take Peters at LT over Jamon Brown, and that's the level of competence being compared here.  Ward has no business back there under normal conditions.  With the game on the line... that issue is exacerbated.

You make zero sense.

Traditionally coaches don't play their starting WRs on special teams because the value of them playing 50 snaps on offense outweighs them playing 3 on special teams and maybe breaking a play or getting hurt

Again it's all about risk vs reward.

Early on the reward of having desean back there was greater than the risk as he was a threat back there

He hasn't been that guy at PR for a few years now, yet his risk for injury has increased exponentially.

The cost isn't worth the benefit any longer and the coaches have yet to realize this.

I get it.  He wanted to be out there to help the team.  It does not take away from the fact that the coaches should have told him "Thanks but sit down”.

simple

Anyway, it’s over and done with.  I’m excited to see what Reagor looks like with Fulgham at X this week.

that would’ve been a solution for this year.    however they basically made reagor the starter I’m not sure you want him back there if we’re making the same argument for desean where injury risk increased and we rather not get him hurt on punt returns. Especially now when he’s had a shoulder and thumb injuries already.

also don’t think it’s a long-term solution to that problem.

This isn't about 'playing ST', this is about game on the line desperation, and coaches HAVE and DO that frequently.

It’s not really ridiculous. It could be as simple as Lane plays, Mailata is the LT. If Lane is out, Mailata plays RT.

Peters-Opeta-Kelce-Herbig-Mailata is better than Mailata-Herbig-Kelce-Peters-Pryor.

But neither is as good as Mailata-Herbig-Kelce-Peters-Johnson.

Yup Texans did it with injury prone fuller. And reid does it when he has too with Tyreek hill. There’s countless other teams that do it as well when the game is on the line late.
