The "neck thing" was a dinged medical. The fact the Eagles had him as a 3rd rounder meant they didn't think he'd make it to a second contract. Sure, you'd rather have 3-4 years of what Metcalf is doing now over what JJAW will ever do, but calling it an "all-time blunder" is a lot.

I have no way of knowing this for sure, but it sure felt to me like they were planning on drafting Hurts with their second round pick last year. The fact that they didn't even address the position at all in the draft despite it being such a big need suggests that they didn't have the opportunity to get the guy they wanted.

It is a lot and it's true.  Their medical staff has not only completely been trash during in-season injuries and coming back from them now that same medical staff said DK's neck was too big a risk.  Yea, that worked out.

Big blunder on all levels.

We're a year and a half into DK's career. The neck was a long-term concern. Conventional wisdom says you don't draft a guy in the first 2 rounds whom you don't think you will sign a second contract (Insert Jalen Hurts counterargument, which is fair...).

Drafting JJAW in round 2 was definitely the wrong move, both at the time and in hindsight. But if the neck ends up hindering DK past year 3, he wouldn't have been the right pick either. This is why you don't make grand draft declarations a year and a half in.

Metcalf wasn’t even the next WR drafted.  After the Eagles drafted JJAW other teams selected Campbell and Isabella before Metcalf came off the board.

Pretending that every other team and GM would have snapped up Metcalf if they were in Howie’s position, or that it was some kind of huge blunder is just cherry picking history to feed a narrative.

The league has some good young QBs

Every GM in the NFL passed on Metcalf...

Seattle passed on him twice before they finally selected him.  So, even the Seahawks had their reservations.

Hopkins, Ridley. DK is good but not the best. He may not even be the best on his team.
