I was doing some quick research a little while ago on long field goal attempts by opposing kickers against the Eagles. For years it has always seemed like they never miss. It turns out that this is pretty much correct.

At 55 yards, it's basically a coin flip for an NFL kicker. That's where the odds tip at 50%. So anything above 55 yards is going to be a less-than-half proposition. But of the last NINE attempts that opposing kickers have had against the Eagles from over 55 yards, they have made each and every one. Nine in a row. At less than 50% odds. Every kick this century from long distance has been good. Just think about that.

It's staggering.

Thanks for doing that research.  I've always thought the same thing going back to the Bucs game with the 63 yarder.

Another Eagles related stat if you want to call it that.  Whenever there is a team that hasn't done something in 60 years or it has never been done....you better believe that streak is ending against the Eagles.

Bucs never won a game under 39 degrees.

Nah, just team record, I think.  Record is still 63 yards I think.  That was merely 61 or 62, IIRC.

Prater hit one from 64 yards a few years ago when he was with the Broncos. That's the current NFL record. Although I believe a 65-yarder was hit a while ago in a preseason game.

Figured you'd know.

I saw a notification from the Eagles app and thought it was going to be another bye week injury like last year

In a way, it sort of is.

Very much so.  Most painful of all the NFC CG losses.

No doubt that was the worst.

Thank you for looking that up.  That is exactly how I have felt before each and every one of those kicks for the past 20 years, including Sunday night.  The one in Tampa 7-8 years ago is the one that sticks out to me the most.  I think that game winner was the record at the time for longest kick ever, and I was certain he would nail it right down the middle.

Would you believe it’s already been 14 years since that kick?  It was actually 1 yard shy of the then 63 yard record which has since been broken by Matt Prater in Denver at 65 yards.

I can't believe it's been that long.  I looked it up right after, and it feels like it wasn't that long ago.  For some reason, I had it in my head that Foles was our QB, but I had the wrong timeline.

ESPN announced they are laying off 10% of their employees. That's terrible news to hear. Didn't mention anyone specific yet.

This made me laugh uncontrollably

Imagine betting on black 9 times in a row in roulette and winning each time. It's ridiculous.

It's actually worse than that. In a true flip of a coin situation, to get 9 in a row would be about .0019, or about 2 in 1,000. But at the casino, you're only getting about 47.4% odds. (Eighteen out of thirty-eight, with 0 and 00 on the wheel too.) So 9 in a row computes to around .0012, which is closer to 1 in 1,000.

But with the attempts by Eagles opponents, each event is much more difficult than 47.4%. In that mix, there are FOUR kicks of over sixty yards, which I estimate being closer to about 25%. And even that may be generous on my part. (Longer kicks are usually only attempted by kickers who have the ability to make them, so they end up being successful more than they randomly probably should be.) Based on all the distances of those long attempts (63, 62, 62, 62, 59, 57, 57, 57, 56) this century, the odds of making ALL NINE is roughly .00006, or about 6 in 100,000. That's about twenty times more unlikely than hitting a color on roulette nine straight times.

This isn't just routine complaining about injuries, arguing that the Eagles have been more unlucky than other teams. There may be some gray area there. But this bad luck is indisputable. It's cold, hard mathematics. And it's unbelievable.

Yeah, the Foles game was in 2012. McNabb was still QB during the 62 yard FG game. He even threw 2 more pick 6's to Rhonde Barber. <_<

They're claiming it's because of COVID/Economic reasons which I'm sure is true to a degree, but their programming has been awful for quite some time now. They spent so much damn money to secure the NBA rights, that they give that sport so much coverage with their shows when ratings show no one really cares about the NBA and really haven't to a significant degree since Jordan retired. Especially if you compare ratings to NFL or college football. Also the shows that they have where they have guys like Stephen A. Smith just screaming at another guy isn't appealing either.

Saw an interesting question

Who is the midseason MVP:

Graham or Fulgham?

Easy... one is the DPOY, the other is the OPOY.   How's that for a Solomonic like solution?!

I would add Kelce to the convo.

Yup. Most painful because eagles had no business losing that game, they just choked from top to bottom. I don't think they would have beat the raiders in the super bowl but that the Bucs did was a joke. Gruden Red Lieubeau'd Callahan
