Folks wanting to move on from Wentz need to understand that, even though he signed the contract extension some time ago, the $32M per season 4-year deal doesn’t even START paying out until next season.  He’s only about $18.6M against the cap this season — it’s the next 4 years where Wentz gets paid and, as with most big money deals, there isn’t any practical out of the contract for the first two years.  Barring anything completely dramatic Wentz is contractually tied to the Eagles, and vice versa, for the next two seasons after this one.

What we’re left with IMO is the sobering question whether Wentz can return to form with Pederson as his chief mentor.  I personally don’t think so.  The next question becomes whether people believe Pederson can survive to the end of the 2022 season under the current circumstances.

I'm trading back. This team needs quantity AND quality. I love Shaun Wade's physicality and demeanor. It's a need for this soft defense. But while he looked great at slot he's new to the outside so I want to see how the ready of the year plays out. So far it's a little mixed but he is new there... Could probably get him around 15ish but who knows at this early stage. CB Eric Stokes may be another option in that area. LB Parsons will be top five and he's a linebacker so...

I'd love a trio of CB Wade/Stokes, S Paris Ford and LB Cameron McGrone.
This defense needs to be rebuilt. These guys bring toughness and attitude along with instincts and the physical toolset. The back seven is a disaster area and these three would help reshape it.

Other than just having the feeling that "He's due", what has anyone seen from Roseman and this team's track record in drafting to make you think they can hit on multiple later pick/round key contributing players?

Not sure that qualifies as managing the run game well, when the team goes 0 for on 3rd down and abandons the run game.

If eagles were winning and the offense was effective efficient and scoring then maybe one could say,hey Wentz is doing a good job managing the run game and getting us in good plays and out of bad plays but that's not what's happening.

The offense is an inconsistent incongruent mess.

What's it say when the only straw a coach can grasp at is saying his abysmal qb managed the run game well in an abysmal offense.

Wentz being able to recognize a heavy box and audibleing out of it is as impressive as Hollins lining up correctly.

It's basic stuff, surely nothing to give praise over.

One of the most frustrating aspects of Wentz's problems is that he often seems to not read blitzes correctly.

It's true

Yes the Browns are beatable because Baker is all over the place even though he can light it up.  Seattle is obviously always a hard game because Russell is just scary.  Saints game will be in Philly with no Brees possible.   Arizona is playing very well so yes Kyler is a threat.  Yes Greenbay and Aaron always scares me but last year we proved they can be beat in Lambeau.   There's something about Doug getting this team ready for a playoff run.  Yes Nick was the QB for those runs in 2017-2018 but in 2019 Carson pulled off a great late Nov/Dec.  So I think he can do it again this year.  I can see us going 4-3 over this next seven.  That would put us at 7-8-1 for the year which should win the Division.  I know people are thinking more 2-5 or even 3-4 at best but I can see a strong Dec saving us.

I don't think all this team needs is another strong December.

The 2002 draft when the Eagles hit on Lito, Sheldon and Brian Westbrook when Howie was an intern.

I'm not trading back. I'm sorry but we need a few great players instead of always picking "okay" guys.

The guys I listed aren't projected as "ok" guys though. Moving from say 9 to 14 I don't think would let us miss out on quality.

Sorry but if anything you should play with more anger after marriage. Dude should be throwing 100 yard ropes

And a baby! Dude must be getting absolutely no action at home. He must be angry plus he'll be getting moaned at constantly.

😉

At least we're not the Texans.

Has to be an upgrade over Clement

The team should sign another OG rather than sign Howard.

A couple thoughts...

Roseman and Lurie need to reframe from making football decisions, like compiling Doug's staff, pushing analytics as a reason to go for it on 4th down and so many 2-pt conversions, the Jalen Hurts pick, who's active on gamedays. Howie is making too many big decisions and has too much control of the team.

If they don't think Doug is capable of assembling his own staff and making tough decisions on whom to keep, or they don't think he should be calling plays, etc ... then they should just fire Doug. This weird balancing act isn't working.

Just reflecting, every time the Eagles bring in a high valued Personnel guy to help with the drafting, i got suckered in and thought, man cant wait, these drafts will be epic.

Remember Tom Modrak?  Or when Joe Douglas, came from the Ravens? I thought when we got him we would start drafting like the Ravens, or Steelers do.

nah didn't happen. As it Turns out, some teams always draft well, and others dont. We get lucky sometimes, but our drafting has never been anything special. For that reason, I really dont care where we draft, even when we have high draft picks, it rarely works out well for us.

This seems more anecdotal than actual.

I think the analytics is Doug.  Compiling the staff is on Howie.  They forced him to move on from Groh last season.  It's not clear to me that the structure now is because of Howie or is due to Doug.

I think league-wide these decisions on 2-pt conversions and on 4th down are coming from the front office. It's become so accepted upstairs that I think a lot of coaches don't want to go against it if they wanted to, especially if that HC is on the hot seat. If Doug was 200% against it, maybe then he could have it his way. I just think he's being put in a tough spot by Howie and the font office in a lot of ways - this being one of them.

Doug does have his own faults and issues though.

Easy there... Chip did not have player personnel 'forced on him'.   That's just rewriting history.  Chip wanted it.  Chip wrestled for it.  Chip got it, and made the dumpster fire burn intensely bright, forcing him to be immediately removed.

Chip's biggest flaw, above control freak?  Professional weasel.  Yeah he wanted it, but on his terms. The man knew his stuff to a point, but it was never his fault and he was always looking for an out wasn't he?  He could never stick with his decisions.

Pat Elflien. Has C/G versatility too

Honestly S-7 I think those are made during the game by Doug

If Howard is 80% of what he was last season it’ll improve the whole offense. Idk why Miami isn’t playing him. Maybe he’s hurt. Either way he’s an upgrade over Clement.

This offense is average at best when it comes to speed which you can get away with if you’re physical. This offense really misses the Blount/Ajayi type of bruiser.
