My preference was for Reagor over Jefferson.  I thought Aiyuk was a pick that would make sense if they traded back from 21.  I didn't think Jefferson would have been a bad pick. I am not sure that Jefferson is the better player in this offense.   It's clear Jefferson has played better but he's had better opportunity on a team that has a better QB and OC.  It's just not an apples to apples comparison.  Doug has done little to put Reagor in a position where he could make plays.  He has no rushing attempts.  I think they have targeted him very little on slants and screens.  So I think it's hard to see what we have in Reagor.  He has made decent catches but they are not putting him in a good position.  Jefferson, on the other hand, has been put in very good positions where he can utilize his skillset to produce.  If you think the coaching staff here would have been able to accomplish that, then you have been watching a different team than I have.

This. 100 percent this. I was fine with them going Jefferson or going with reagor as long as they believed jefferson had the ability to play the outside WR position at a high level. However I knew the Eagles were going to take Reagor because i believe they thought reagor was a better replacement for DeSean.

I mentioned last night if you put Brandon Aiyuk in Philadelphia and you took Jalen Reagor and put him SF with shanahan Then I think people would be complaining about Brandon aiyuk and reagor would be having a better year with Shanahan because Shanahan utilizes his players to their strengths and will design his offense to match the personnel he has. How many years have we talked about the Philadelphia Eagles not maximizing the strengths of their players until like December? This feels like the third year in a row we are talking about this

Of course.  Nothing ever is.    My point is that I am sick to death of this revisionist history from so many because Jefferson is putting up numbers now.  At the time, he wasn't the guy people wanted.   But, now they do.   Boo-freaking-hoo.  We have Reagor, and I think Reagor can be really good.  He hasn't had much opportunity, and he has some of the same problems facing him as facing Wentz.    I want a re-start with a new coaching staff.  And new personnel people.

i liked Jefferson too, but he also has Theilen and a dominant ground game to benefit him. he gets alot of easy catches that i doubt he would see here...

That term easy is funny.  When was the last time the Eagles did things that just looked easy for them?  Every play, every drive seems like it's a tremendous amount of work for little reward.  They plug away but nothing looks easy for them.

so who should we hire as an OC? i dont want another Reid disciple

One option that may make sense is Joe Lombardi who is the Saints QB coach.

ok this will be fun - after the SB I will curate a Blog Draft Supreme Court of 9 (seems appropriate size no?) to determine picks by a majority. we can then compare the output of that committee vs what the team actually does.

the beauty is that everyone can lobby said panel leading up to the draft

Sounds like fun actually

Under Joe Douglass' watch...LOL He was touted as being some great Personnel guy.  I remember when we got him I was thinking great maybe we could start drafting like the Ravens,  EHHHHHH no. We still drafted like the Eagles. Gotta move Howie away from Drafting players.

I'm not interested in parsing out who was responsible for what... Douglas/Howie/random dude at the vending machine.   Makes no difference to me.   Get rid of them ALL and start fresh.  NovaCare is stuck in groupthink and that leads to spiraling downwards once the decline comes, because they are going to try to recreate what worked in the past, rather than what would work now.   Dump them all and start over.

Let Press try it on for the rest of 2020. If it fits, fine. If not, and I am projecting not, then move on from him.  Let him go get with his brother and hire a real QB coach.  That might be Scangarello or maybe he is the OC.  Also, for the love of all football gods (greend bringing religion into the blog), fire Marty.

I like it when people pick out a handful of NFL quarterbacks and say they would do better here, like well we'll just jettison Wentz and the next college guy will just be better. Since McNabb we haven't had as much potential as we have in Wentz. Franchise quarterbacks don't grow on trees some organizations never seem to land them. You better hope that Wentz somehow snaps out of this and becomes 2017 Wentz again because I assure you if he isn't it could be a long time before we find a franchise qb again.

Almost all qb's would struggle playing behind our revolving oline, especially with our game plans and play calling having a reluctance to focus on the Run game and QB roll outs, and especially throwing to our wr's.  I mean Travis Fulgham is the BEST WR on this team and he was cut by two teams in this offseason! EVen our best Offensive player - Sanders, has been out most of this season.

I agree with this.  I don't think you were alone in your preference for Jefferson.  I do think the majority of the board wanted Reagor.  In fairness, we had just been traumatized by the JJAW pick.

It would ne nice to have a draft that people in here and on t.v. weren't saying wtf? when we pick.

With what?  How did that work out when we "dumped the entire old system" when we hired Chip Kelly?

Then we went back to the "old system (Aka Andy Reid disciple) and won a Super Bowl.

I want a whole new direction.  I don't understand why people are saying they want Beinemy or Kafka.  We lived through the AR years now we have DP and we just know what that coaching tree looks like.  Just look at Matt Nagy.  Nothing new and exciting over there.

I just want a coach who can come in here look at the players he has and play to their strengths.  Sure, bring in their coaching philosophies and whatnot but walk in that door and look at Reagor, Fulgham, Goedert and Sanders then do whatever you can to maximize their talent.  No more of this interchangeable stuff.

Reagor made sense...

lots of WTF after that in rounds 2 & 3, but round 4 through 7 i actually thought were good

I hear and agree with this, but Carson has his issues that need ironed out, I'm just on board with the attempted ironing vs just cutting bait.

i like BigE's suggestion of Scangarello at OC calling plays

Wouldn't argue

I don't think a new (or actual) OC would make any difference until Doug relinquishes the play calling. We have brought in 150,000 consultants and to what end? Where is the motion? Where is the misdirection? What is new? The Hurts package?

I agree, Reagor made sense, and our later rd picks were decent. WHat ever model or thought process we have for the mid rds isn't working, would love for that to change to- just pick safe good players, instead of trying to hit the jackpot with picks like Hurts and Sidney Jones. They try to outsmart everyone and end up always outsmarting themselves.

Idk it was a pretty big split on which wide receivers. Had jefferson reagor, even mims was a guy people wanted. However when lamb fell i think the majority of the board wanted us to trade up with the Falcons to get lamb at 16. i wanted to trade out of 21 to get more picks and go WR a few picks later cause i thought the second tier of WRs were all very close in terms of talent. Granted there was a strong chance the eagles if they did that could’ve missed out on reagor, aiyuk and jefferson. Then again I also wouldn’t have been upset if they went shenault if they traded back. However he’s been Ok and now has a hammy which he’s likely back from this week.

I was not alone, but I was in a very small minority.

i am done with the Hurts nonsense. let him sit and learn to be an actual QB

i agree DP needs to put the ego aside and have a real OC calling plays - but isnt that supposed to be a strength of his?

Agreed.  Rounds 2 and 3 were generally the head scratchers.  The rest seemed like good value and the right players at the right positions.   And I will say that the trade back with the Cowboys was beautiful.   That pick became a future pick and 2 or 3 players, I think.   And honestly, they were the guys I wanted... Quez Watkins and Prince.   Hopefully Prince can learn how to be a swing OT.   I think that's his future in this league.

For the record, I wanted Reagor in the first round and Claypool in the second round.

Can someone explain why he was hired?

Where have his offenses been good?

Ok.   Not sure what people outside the blog were saying, but every time Jefferson was brought up in the blog... there was me, BigEFly and maybe one or two others saying that he was more than a slot.   I don't know about the greater TATE or EMB world.
