Random post. There’s a video named "Carson Wentz Smiles after Fisting Philadelphia Eagles Coach Doug Pederson”.

I'm one to take the risky clicks but this one is too much for me

Anyone have the coaches film available on Game Pass.   Don’t remember it being unavailable Wednesday night.

Game Pass has been a disaster. They are having some issues and no one is able to get the All 22. Every person that breaks it down has been complaining.

Howie deserves his share of criticism for underwhelming drafts as well as giving out some bad contracts, but there is a lot worse at GM out there. Just look at Elway or BOB. Look at Les Snead, Jason Licht, Dave Caldwell, Dave Gettleman and Mike Tannenbaum. Or Ryan Pace who traded up one spot to take Trubisky instead of Mahomes or Watson.

I think Howie can at least get one losing season before talks of firing him should be considered. Especially with this teams injury luck the last 4 years

Don't have to fire him, but can remove him from final say on personnel.

Let's face it, personnel and identifying talent has never been his strong suit. He's been good at trade value and contracts.

I don't see what's wrong with hiring a guy above him who has final say in personnel. Whoever the dude is who scouts WRs for the Steelers lol.

They deleted it to keep suicides down.

The good news keeps on coming

Well he doesn’t have to tell us about Goff not knowing how to read defenses. The USA Today did that a couple years ago.

Their offense has changed a lot. I don't think Nickell has any valuable information.

The media needs to either stop asking Doug injury questions or file some grievance with the NFL that he has to release more information than he does.  One or the other.

The non answers (and their acceptance of them) are hysterical.

"when he comes back, he’ll be 100%.”

"He’s working to get back.”

"When he’s back, he’ll be back.”

Doug has said these things in response to questions.

Alright, I got at least 25% of my negative energy out since last Sunday.

In this positive spurt, I just want to say that I am actually happy Doug is the coach and Wentz is the qb.  I look forward to seeing what the two of them can do together moving forward with Reagor/Goedert/Sanders at their disposal...and especially hope that they can turn Hightower into a weapon.

I really think getting something out of Hightower/Watkins will the be the tipping point between having a very cover-able complement of weapons and just having too much speed to handle.

I know the defense definitely changed, they have a new DC. Wade is gone. Doug owned Wade, I wish Wade was still there.

If Lane is back this week, does Driscoll move inside to guard

OR can he slide to LT and have Peters go back to Guard?

He was pretty impressive last week.

I don’t think impressive should be used to describe anyone on the OL, Driscoll included.

The best thing I can say is I suspect he was good enough for Doug/Stoutland to serviceably hide him on an OL with 4 other good starters.

With Lane returning, a better week from Kelce, and maybe more effort from Peters, perhaps they will actually have just that on Sunday.

It’s just a lot to ask of a rookie...he was taking snaps at LT in camp, started at RT, and now perhaps a starter at RG. We traded up for Dillard in round 1, asked him to play one half at RT last year and he completely emotionally and physically fell apart.  Yet our 4th round pick has been asked to play LT, RG, and RT.  I don’t know where Driscoll has the most potential, but I suggest we find that spot and leave the poor guy there.

Hightower getting open in week 1 is good news for his future prospects. The big thing we have to see is whether he can track the deep ball.

I just hope they keep after it with him.  He looked like a deer in headlights, but he got open.   If he snags a deep ball while defenses are focused on Reagor/Desean, it would be so exciting.

The new DC is a Fangio disciple, so we should be familiar with the concepts.

Seattle. From 2012 onward only missed the playoffs once.

chiefs from 2012 only missed the playoffs twice.

Eagles have missed it 4 times.

I imagine Pittsburgh is close to the Eagles too.   Pretty bad records in their divisions but still, the sky is falling reaction is a bit much.

I bet Dillard develops into a quality LT. Seumalo has developed into a good LG.  Kelce, an all pro.  Lane may be the best RT in the league or close to it.  I really think Driscoll will be a solid player and maybe our sixth man.  Mailata seems to me developing.  All were draft choices.  I still like Wanogho’s potential   Both Herbig and Juriga may be solid UDFA finds.  Not a fan of Pryor, but I will defer to JR on him. Stout can spot talent.

I think Miles has the potential to be a great running back. Corey has already paid off as a UDFA. Potential kudos to the draft/pro scouts on Scott and Huntley for no cost.

Foles paid great dividends for where he was drafted.  Carson is a top ten to twelve QB.  Jury is out on Hurts. Could have got a better use with the Thomson fifth.  Day 3 QBs are a roll of the dice

Ertz and Goedert?  Pretty good TEs and well drafted.

Ward was a solid UDFA.  I like potential in Reagor.  JJAW? 50% of WRs bust.  Agholor was a poor player.  Hollins got hurt and wasn’t that great to begin with. Gibson was drafted at lotto pick level.  If either Hightower or Watkins develops, that is a hit. Hard position to draft.  What is it Afan says about bodies?

Now, let’s talk D.  It is said by the beats that Howie gives Schwartz a say in D draft choices and trades.  Don’t.   Frajole, maybe. He seems to get more out of less than any coach on the team. Manuel, maybe at some point.  Trust the scouts.

DL - not a lot of draft capital other than the two first round picks. Barnett is about what you would expect from a mid round DE but reeks of a college results pick like Marcus Smith.  Whiff on Smith. Yes, Miller looks like a whiff but he was a third day pick.  Sweat, on the other hand looks solid.  Avery still strikes me as a 3/4 LB type.  Eagles seem to get decent rotation from street free agents and UDFAs at DT.  Toohill.  Need some capital used well at this position over the next couple years.

While LB is not a focus position for the Eagles, note they seem to get value for little cost.  Riley and a higher draft choice for a street FA was a steal.   Gerry in the fifth.  Still not sold on Bradley but Frajole does wonders.  Taylor is so third round   Swing for the fences   Kind of worked with Hicks.  TJ as an UDFA, nice focus.  Singleton picks the Eagles as Defensive Player of the Year in the CFL and is a force on STs.

Big whiff on Jones but I thought he would be a steal so the Eagles weren’t the only ones fooled.  Maddox, great value in the fourth.  Mills at S.  Four years late.  Douglas never made sense.  I have real hope that Wallace is the turnaround that Maddox started

So I just don’t see the failure to acquire talent

Personally , I think certain guys get to many snaps. Jackson and Reagor should play, Ward in the slot and then either Hightower or Whiteside get a couple snaps. One or the other.

Sanders and Scott, Ertz and Goedert. Play your best players. Screw everyone else.

I don’t care about getting guys snaps. That’s what practice is for.

Some Football Outsider stuff...

Our D held WFT to 17 yards/drive.  That was the lowest week 1.  A mixture of some good D and short fields.  (Our O was the second lowest .)

Supporting this, the D was second best in generating 3-and-outs and inherited the third worst field position.

I respectfully disagree.  I think you need to have one eye on not just the distant future, but also even later this season.

If you just roll with Reagor/Desean/Ward/Ertz/Goedert, that offense is going to be in a world of hurt when Desean inevitably goes down.  Hightower is going to need to pan out and factor into this picture for the offense to reach its potential.  Even if he’s not the best option right now, I want to push him along.

So Fangio was the architect of the Sam Mills/ Rickey Jackson Saints .  What I remember about Defenses like that is guys like DeSean Jackson / John Taylor / Jerry Rice ( Catch the ball and FLY ) absolutely killed schemes like that.  Lots of drag routes against LB's and slow footed safeties.

Getting Miles back should help a lot. Making them miss and make tackles tires them out.  No disrespect to Boston or Corey ( Boston sometimes has this in droves) but neither made the WFT 2nd level work too hard on Sunday.

If Wentz can get the timing patterns down and start hitting people in stride, the effect is cumulative. You spend 6 seconds chasing DeSean all over to get him down. Next play, those legs getting upfield are not as fresh. Great way to slow down any pursuit defense.

I think you're being  very kind in a lot of ways.

Dillard has shown nothing.

Seumalo is inconsistent at LG.  Some days he can dominate, others you see him looking like a patty cake.  Pryor has been here 3 years and developed in to a 4th string player now.

Kelce and Lane were added before this regime was here so I don't count them as added talent.

Driscoll has potential but is that potential just a swing tackle?  Prince, we have no idea yet.  Herbig in his first start looked not so good.  Prince, who knows.

Miles Sanders was a great pick but here we are already talking about what to do next because no one wants to pay a running back top dollar.  Soctt is a nice role player.  Huntley has shown nothing yet.  Clement was a great UDFA and key to SB52.  Since then, nothing.

Tight ends are great.

I'm a Ward fan so yes, good UDFA find.  JJAW...the 50% of WR bust argument doesn't work with him when you look at alllll of the talent that was selected after him.  Horrible draft pick. Hollins and Gibson-trash.  Anytime you draft a WR and the first thing they say is he's good at special teams you know it isn't a good pick.  I have hopes for 2020 class.  TBD.

I would not consider Barnett anywhere near what you want from a top half of the 1st round draft pick.  He's never healthy, he gets dumb penalties and just doesn't perform at a high enough level.  Miller was a waste of a 4th round pick, same with Avery.  I like the Sweat pick.  Toohill has some hype but we need to see in action.

Linebackers....Gerry is OK.  No idea what Bradley or Taylor are going to be.  I think Taylor in the 3rd was a horrible use of resources.  TJ is JAG.  Singleton is a ST contributor, wouldn't call him a force.  I do like Duke Riley and the way they acquired him.

Sidney Jones-bust.  Rasul Douglas, coaches didn't know how to use him, he played well when called upon.  Mills was a good find.  Maddox in the 4th is OK, I think he's just the tallest midget at this point which is hard for a guy who is 5-9.

I see a tremendous failure to add talent.  They draft a ton of JAGs IMO.

We've been a top-ten team in Wins since 2016, when Doug arrived.  Yet, we can't seem to acquire talent.

So, if Howie is really that bad at what he does, then Doug is really, really good at what he does.

Another view.  We haven't had a true HOFer since Dawkins.  He was drafted in the previous century.  You can maybe point to Kelce, Cox, Lane, and Ertz as top-five at their respective positions.  But none of them scream Wheatie box greatness.  Other than Wentz, what recent player captured the fan base's imagination?  Howie hits a lot of doubles.  Guys like Seumalo and Goedert.  So until he picks a few more probowlers, despite the record, he will be criticized.
