Someone said yesterday that Metcalf is closest thing we’ve seen to Calvin Johnson.

bad take.

but had me thinking, has there been anyone that you could even compare to Johnson since he’s retired? I think the only answer is Julio honestly.

julio is who I would say also.

Some of this is on Carson, some is on the play calling and some has to be on the o-line as well but I posted some WR stats the other day.

-Reagor (granted he was hurt) had his 55 yard catch in week 1.  Since then his long is 16 yards.   12 catches 159 yards, 1 TD

-Hightower has 2 long catches, 59 and 50 yards.  Hasn't caught a ball since week 7.  His next longest catch is 13 yards.   9 catches 166 yards

-Fulgham cooled off last week.  I need to see him have a big game this week.       30 catches 443 yards, 4 TDs

-Ward is what he is, a reliable yet underwhelming slot WR.  He's the least of my concerns because we know what he is.    37 catches 282 yards, 4 TDs

-Watkins doesn't have a catch.

That is anything but a low priority in my book.  They need help.  Leading up to the year we heard how Howie finally invested in WR because he took 3 in the draft.  There's investing and there's investing wisely.  They could draft 4 running backs all built like Pumphrey and you can say that's investing in RB but they all will suck.  Hightower and Watkins were shots in the dark.  Hightower might develop in to a #4 WR down the road but he's done nothing for me to say WR is set.  DJack, Alshon, Hightower, Reagor and JJAW have all missed games and Watkins hasn't been able to provide a single stat.  Again, I'm not getting excited about him and he's probably a PS player next year.

In a perfect world the Eagles need to draft a #1 WR.  A bonafide stud.  Reagor is your #2.  Fulgham can be a big bodied slot guy where he can create mismatches.  Ward and Hightower are your depth guys.

Our WR minus Alshon and DJack have 88 catches for 1050 yards totals and 9 TDs.

To put that in perspective:

DeAndre Hopkins has 72 catches for 912 yards with 4 TDs

Stefon Diggs has 73 catches for 906 yards and 4 TDs

DK doesn't have the catch volume with 48 catches but he has 862 yards and 9 TDs.  DK has as many TDs as our 4 "promising" WR.

Justin Jefferson has 42 catches for 762 yards and 3 TDs

Terry McLaurin 57 catches for 787 yards and 3 TDs

Robby Anderson (who we should have signed) has 64 catches for 772 yards but only 1 TD

I know those are the top dog WR but just showcasing the total production of 5 WR compared to legit WR.  It's actually pathetic.

WR is absolutely 100% a priority.  The only thing is that Howie has done such a poor job constructing this team that there are numerous priorities.  If they continued to play Mailata, we might get a better idea of where OT and OL is in general but they want him to learn from the sidelines.

They need to draft a CB2 who can be CB1 in 2 years because Slay isn't a long term answer here.  So again, they probably should add 2 good corners.  I've seen enough of Maddox

TE2, OLB, MLB, DE, DT, RB, C, OG are all other remaining needs and you can say they are all priorities.  This team is in bad shape moving forward if you step back and look at the big picture.

The only reason Robby Anderson has such high yardage/catch numbers and only 1 TD is because I drafted him in a fantasy league with very heavy weighting on TDs scored over catches/yards. So you can't put that on him -- that's on me.

different league. seriously. The evolution of the passing game in the NFL has become like the evolution of the CPU over the last 20 years. In great part because - this is going back a bit further but the '91 Eagles defense would go to jail today for the things they did to WRs and QBs.

Then factor in as was pointed out by I_P the talent throwing to Megatron and the talent throwing to DK.

I had a thread for him in IWTETG on the old boards. Then he stayed in school like a jerk.

Thought he had D’Eriq King coming back as QB although Tune has potential.

His loyalty cost him rings but he'll get into the Hall

Agree but that's because Wilson is better than all of the QBs throwing to Megatron

I’m not arguing that Metcalf is better....I’m just questioning the logic of how you can say they aren’t in the same universe when he has outproduced him at the same point in their careers.

Wilson.  Seattle’s offense is perfect for Metcalf. Like JJAW, I believe Metcalf isn’t extremely agile.   Works in the Seattle offense.  Not sure it works in Doug’s primarily West Coast type routes.  While Doug does call some post routes, he does love to spread the receivers horizontally to widen the field.  In other words, I am not sure the Metcalf love would exist for the WR in an offense without a Wilson, except maybe Rodgers.

I had hoped that bringing in Harrell, that he would incorporate more tiered routes.  It’s basically the Leach approach. Look toward one side of the field and see three potential receivers running routes visible for the side of the field but tiered, maybe on short, one intermediate and one long.  Take them all in quickly.  If the QB looks the other direction, he sees two potential receivers also at two tiers.   Would work much better for Carson than three receivers spread at same level across the field from sideline to sideline.  I would argue it, combined with better presnap motion, which goes hand in hand with getting to the LOS with the play quicker, and QB motion makes it easier to read the defense because they have to commit.  If Doug doesn’t believe that, he should watch it happen to Schwartz’s D every week.

The Reagor conversation this week is some of the most pathetic BS I've ever seen from Eagles fans/media. He's played in FOUR GAMES, plays in a dysfunctional offense, and his QB can't make high school throws consistently. Trying to Brandon Graham him already is dumb as hell, and if you're doing it, you suck.

1) Playing in today's NFL is very different than playing in 2007. Everyone's stats are up.
2) Calvin Johnson never played with anyone close to the level of Russell Wilson early in his career.
3) Metcalf doesn't always draw #1 CBs. Sometimes he does (Ramsey who shut him down). Because Lockett is also a good WR, sometimes teams just decide to play sides or put their bigger CBs on Metcalf.

When Metcalf gets doubled at the goal-line like a gunner on a punt return, we can revisit this.

Megatron and Fitzgerald are in their own league, composed of HOF players.

Check back in a decade to see if Metcalf deserves mention in the same sentence.

It’s more of a "here we go again” after an inauspicious start.

Those teams were garbage hence throwing all the time. Seattle is a run first team.

Throwing and throwing your WRs open and dropping rainbowesque dimes as though carried by angels of the lord are different things. Not to mention a solid run game and a second elite WR on the team, with very capable supporting pieces. It’s just not comparable man

Did anyone else realise Holyfield was on the PS? I didn't. I definitely missed that.

So you admit Metcalf is elite... that itself makes it at least somewhat comparable

This seems like it will be a disaster

They hired 800 offensive assistants. They should be able to handle everything just fine.

Except the 800 assistants don’t actually do anything, just cash a check and say yes to Doug

Carson could not be worse than he's been already. If he plays better tomorrow, it's further justification for firing/demoting Press Taylor.

Right....people on here have been saying Press is too buddy-buddy with Wentz and too easy on him.  Maybe DP will get on him when he does something wrong during the game.
