Herbig has a broken finger or something like that.

Doug said today he's fine and Opeta is ahead of him on the depth chart.

I’m certainly not an OC, but even I was saying at halftime just pound the run game and take a few deep shots — the Browns were playing single-high safety with Sandejo back there!  Instead, the Eagles all but abandoned the run and the only deep throw they attempted was to the TE — and it drew a 40+ yard penalty.  Not complicated.

A reverse where Sanders runs left, pitches to Hurts and Hurts gets the option to run or throw downfield to Fulgham or Reagor or Goedert seems like a play that’s worth trying.  It’s not like Doug is missing the subtle nuances; he’s not even getting the basics right.

im of the opinion that this offense cant be fixed until the oline gets fixed

that aint happening this season, too many old injured players and doug is sitting on his 2 best young olineman, Herbig and Mailata

looks like a top 5 pick is coming, and im sure we will throw it away anyway on some injured player, who wont contribute in 2021

If your sink gets a small leak do you sell the entire house?

Exactly!

The sink is the QB position (Wentz),  the entire house is the rest of the team, the coaching staff, the front office, etc.

I'm glad we are in agreement.

i mean this team is not fun to watch, i mean in 2010 when vick came in he's running style and throwing was so much fun to watch. i mean you dont see that from wentz, hurts has that ability like vick, at least let's see how this team will play regardless of making the playoffs or not unless, they are trying to tank this season and playing hurts could hurt the draft position, that's the only other reason.

Doug and Howie have gotten away from what made the Eagles and Wentz successful....

2017 -

#3 in the NFL in rushing

#4 in the NFL in defense

2020-

#11 in the NFL in rushing

#15 in the NFL in defense

Wentz and the offense functioned better in a run first environment and killed team on playaction and bootlegs.  Now we don't do any of that.

I actually made this comment during 2018.

It wasn’t just wentz. The point differential for foles and wentz when we committed to the run was about 11.5 point difference for wentz and 11.3 for foles. And it wasn’t just running the ball late. the 2017 season (and the 2018 rams) they had plenty of games like the chargers game where they ran from the start of the game and it helped the offense establish a rhythm.

I'd be embarrassed to have your thought process

Coming from you, I'd take that as a compliment.

1,000,000 % correct

Doug’s fatal flaw is he believes the offense revolves around the QB throwing 45-50 times per game.  Wentz and the Eagles are most effective when the total passes are in the low 30s — that means there needs to be 27-32 running plays per game — as a philosophy, not an absolute.

The thing is, they have OK pieces this year on the o-line, they simply aren't playing the best players in their best positions.

LT- Mailata   LG- Seumalo   C- Kelce   RG- Herbig/Driscoll   RT- Johnson   This would be an acceptable O-line but the Eagles don't do anything that makes sense.

Yikes that’s like a Bridgewater injury

And you need to have some continuity, guys need to play together, as a unit for more than 1/2 a game.

Well, we unloaded one starting QB before when Teddy went down.  Can we somehow get them to bite on Wentz?  That's at least a 2 year recovery to get back to just being healthy let alone top shape to play NFL QB again.

Looking even more in those rushing numbers...

In 2017 we were 6th in the NFL in number of rushing attempts

In 2020 we are currently 27th in the NFL in the number of rushing attempts

It is mind boggling as to why the organization shifted to what got them the Super Bowl trophy...

Isn't this offense predicated on what the QB reads at the line of scrimmage?  So if Doug calls a running play, Wentz can check out of it, yes?  Or vice-versa, if he calls a passing play, Wentz can check into a running play, based on what he sees, yes?

Most of my "hot takes" have been coming more true each day so heres another

*IF* the Eagles get a top 5 pick, move on from Doug, they're going to be a serious contender next year. Like NFCCG type stuff

Lol

Let me stop you right there

So you want the QB to check out of 30-35 plays a game?

How do we know if Wentz isn't checking out of 15 or 20 running plays a game?

Second play shows an easy completion...... except for the worst starting QB in the NFL:

I think Wentz can check in and out of plays.  Was he able to do that in 2017?  Are you suggesting that Wentz is the reason why we are not running the ball enough?  He is checking out of every run play to call pass plays for himself that is what you are suggesting?   You think if Wentz changed 15-20 plays from running to passing we would know about it by now?   Doug wants to throw the ball just like AR running the ball isn't what he wants to do at heart.

My "main" hot take on this board has been, Doug's not a good coach. He's not.

I wanted him gone 2 year ago. last year the previous year was a product of a bad bad NFC east and were seeing it in full display

I still stand by MCvay is a better coach. I stand by the creativity leaving with Reich.

You give me a top 10 pick, a healthy team and a good run scheme offensive mind next year and yes, I think this is an NFCCG type team

So you wanted to fire the reigning SB coach?
