My "main" hot take on this board has been, Doug's not a good coach. He's not.

I wanted him gone 2 year ago. last year the previous year was a product of a bad bad NFC east and were seeing it in full display

I still stand by MCvay is a better coach. I stand by the creativity leaving with Reich.

You give me a top 10 pick, a healthy team and a good run scheme offensive mind next year and yes, I think this is an NFCCG type team

Doug is a good manager of other good coaches. Hence the Super Bowl year. He isn't good enough yet to be on his own.

I think Wentz can check in and out of plays.  Was he able to do that in 2017?  Are you suggesting that Wentz is the reason why we are not running the ball enough?  He is checking out of every run play to call pass plays for himself that is what you are suggesting?   You think if Wentz changed 15-20 plays from running to passing we would know about it by now?   Doug wants to throw the ball just like AR running the ball isn't what he wants to do at heart.

This has always been and always will be a pass first offense under the Reid/Pederson system.   It obviousky works since it has won two out of the last 3 Super Bowls.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing more running plays when the offense is struggling like the way it is now.

We were run first in 2017 not pass first that was the point I was making.  The team and Wentz played better when we were run first offense.

Just for reference the nfc title game they had foles throw 33 passes and 29 runs. And super bowl they threw 43 and 28 times. And they didn’t just start running late in either of those games.

18-2 when throwing 31 times or less

17-28-1 when throwing 32+ times

Second play shows an easy completion...... except for the worst starting QB in the NFL:

It's why I get defensive on Reagor. He's getting open on plays while Carson stares him down and chooses not to throw.

Now who can argue with that?   Not only was that authentic inner-city gibberish, but he expressed the eloquence seldom seen in this day and age.

Yeah that's hard to watch. I think ... Carson just doesn't believe what he's seeing. He's beaten up and has been a such a turn over machine that he sees a guy wide open and just doesn't believe it. So he looks to see what he's missing - even the TD on the 1st play - Carson threw it way late.

Adam Caplan absolutely crushed the coaching. He thinks this is a 9 win team with better coaching. Not sure I agree with that, but I do agree the coaching has sucked.

He's reporting Jeff Lurie made it known within the organization that he's not happy at all with the direction the offense is heading and there will be big changes after the season if they don't turn it around. Caplan said that doesn't mean Doug is gone per se, but at the very least a new staff and probably be forced to give up play calling because Doug's insistence to call the plays is what cost them the ability to hire a top level OC. Caplan said Graham Harrell would be hire right now if Doug agreed to give up play calling.

Its almost impossible to boil this down to granular levels, youre not seeing the forest for the trees if youre trying to blame any one person other than Lurie.  From there on down there are a million culprits

They just flatout failed to recognize that their organization needed to adapt.

They hired Doug for a specific purpose, they hired his assistants for a specific purpose.  They hit a walk off world series grand slam with that organizational structure.    But after winning the SB, they should have tweaked it.  Instead they doubled down for a couple of seasons and it has failed.

Instead of being the QB to lead us to multiple SB appearances like I had dreamt that February night, Wentz will now be the placeholder that ushers the franchise into the next age.  He will oversee the transition that flushes out the memories of 2017 and welcomes a new generation of Eagle players.  My new dream is for him to get us through this year or two, and help us raise the Lombardi once again before riding off into the sunset.  He will be our John Elway

In the NFC East?  Yeah, this is a 9-7 team with good coaching.  Every other team in the division is 3-7, headed toward 5-11 or 6-10 at best.

I think there is no question it starts at the top. Lurie allows things to fester. The problem is, Lurie isn’t selling, so it’s basically pointless to bish about him. The next best option is to fire Howie. That’s very doable.

And I’m guessing that is not going to be the case this offseason. That’s why i think that doug is likely the one of the 3 who’s not back after 2021

But, the coaching staff and possibly Howie if he is influencing playing time can't see the obvious. Plus, Mialata figures to improve and Peters is almost 40 years old.  Do Doug and Howie need flashcards to understand this?

Not gonna lie, I think the Cowboys could reach 7-9 or 8-8 with their weak ass schedule.

Don’t forget the cardboard cutout guy for not being loud enough to disrupt opposing offenses. Don’t worry they just recycle the cutout

If you want change, then root for blowouts in prime-time games. That wakes up every single owner.

I said this after their win yesterday. They have a shot at 7 wins if they beat Washington Thursday. Have the bengals down burrow. Eagles and giants last two weeks of the year. Dalton plays like he did yesterday or even average they have a shot at 6-7 wins

I think it’s a turtle race and I wouldn’t bet a nickel of my own money on any one of the 4 teams:

More from Caplan:

Talking to people around the league who study tape say Doug insists his WRs beat man coverage instead of scheming them open and it’s killing the passing game.

People who study the Eagles in film said their schemes and route concepts are exactly the same as last season even with new assistants. Indicates this is more on Doug because he has veto power for the offense.

Thinks it’s embarrassing with the excuses in press conferences lately and needs to show more accountability.

thinks he might just be losing the team here.
