A down year from Wentz.  I guess that's one way to describe it.  I guess the dinosaurs had a down year when the asteroid hit.

It still amazes me that he never won a SB.

His first 2 coaches never forced him to be a QB and not a RB.  For all the hype, hoopla, and even fear he got from fellow players during his early years, he was easy to defend.

By the time AR got to him and very nearly fixed him, Vick had lost too many years and AR was on his last legs.  Neither of them had time to make it work.  Even with some more refinement, Vick had a complete inability to process a blitz coming from beyond the C-gap.  Could not do it.

I don't think it's a surprise though.  When a struggling QB does one thing exceptionally well, there is a huge chorus to let them do what they do best.  How often do we hear "let Wentz roll out, let him run" etc.  At some point, you have to force these guys to be complete QBs.  They can't only sit on old crutches.  Vick's coaches just let him tuck and run his entire career.

Geez.  No one is getting fired because of this year’s performance.  Schwartz may not be renewed but that may be his decision as much as the Eagles.  OL injuries and Covid get a lot of the blame.  Carson had a down year.   I do think Doug is forced to name an OC.  If Press has really been the voice in Carson’s ear, he may take the heat. Howie will be on a short leash because of the cap issue.  But the realism is this coming offseason is a bigger challenge initially than this year.   Vaccine available about draft time.  Scouting, all star games and pro days all screwed up.  But OTAs forward should be normal.  The realism is that going forward this year they need to be giving more snaps to potential players.  We saw some with less this past week.  Ostman got some snaps and trucked by Chubb. Juriga got some snaps but not by design. More snaps for Mailata.  Taylor spotted and saw a little Wallace. And yet still in first place.

Some solid DC out there

Covid happening is all the more reason Pederson/Wentz should have had a leg up on the competition. A Coach/QB combo going into their 5th season together. What other teams can say that? Saints, Seahawks, and Steelers are the only teams I can think of off the top of my head. And Falcons but I guess that's a bad example.

Our OL, WRs, and playcalling beg to differ.

I'll give you the O line injuries but Covid has affected everyone equally

go ahead and throw the LB corp in there for good measure.

The Eagles are healthier than they've been at this point in a season since 2016...and they just played one of their worst games in years.

So did the concussion destroy Wentz? B/c for all this talk about injuries, he finished last season on a roll, running an efficient short passing game with no NFL caliber WRs.

I think the problem is the combination of a shaky OL and bad schemes/play calling by Doug, and Wentz has lost his mojo, but there's no fundamental issue here. Doug is trying to make Wentz into Foles  with the RPO, but Wentz doesn't fit that scheme well, round peg/square hole.

Now Wentz is slowing down a little, but he still has size, IQ, a big arm - everything needed to be a top NFL QB.

If Doug can't turn this around, and I mean turn it around, not squeeze out 6 wins and take an incredibly weak division, time to move on.

i concur its mostly a oline issue with a lack of wr talent. Wentz clearly doesnt trust his oline or wrs.  cant blame him

this season he has the most pressures, hits, sacks and balls dropped according to pff.

bad combo. most just want to blame him, thats just being lazy. being a qb doesnt happen in a vacium. it takes a decent oline to give him time, and wrs to get open and catch the ball.

yes he is atruggling, as anyone would in the same aituation.

We will find out if it's the the entire offense, the coaches, the scheme or the QB once Wentz is benched and we see what this offense looks like with a different QB,

On the surface, I want Bieniemy.

AR has built the NFL's prototypical offense.  He was fatally flawed, but way ahead of his time when he was here.  Sign me up for that blueprint with his right hand.

BUT...that's the mistake all owners make.  Just hire any Belichick assistant.  Just hire anyone who has been compared to Sean Mcvay.  Just hire anyone who has coached Peyton Manning.  All of those mistakes have been made several times over.

I want a coach who graduated from AR's Harvard School of Offense...but they need to be sure he is his own man who can adapt and think on his own, under new circumstances.  And I have absolutely no idea if that applies to Bieniemy.

One other issue...the blog has dismissed this before...but so much of these jobs are backroom conversations and handshakes.  Firing one AR disciple to hire another will be tricky.

I kind of understand this. Kind of want someone new as well. I disagree that no new coach will want to "hitch" his ride to Wentz though

One other thing about a new coach...

If you fire Doug to "salvage" Wentz, this does not reset the clock on Wentz.  No matter how you want to split up the blame pie between Doug/Wentz....in 2021, Carson is still going to be a $32m QB who turns 29 next season with 0 playoff wins and was the worst starting QB in the NFL in 2020.

The new coach is a shot in the dark at a miracle that Wentz magically turns into a new QB.  Don't hold your breath on that and anticipate the upcoming search for a franchise QB.

Howie/Lurie/the peanut gallery better not be saying oh, Wentz needs 2-3 years with the new HC.  That's how one QB problem kills 2 coaches.

Whoever does survive this offseason...Wentz, Doug, Howie, all 3...they get ONE year to turn it around.

Stafford is 32 and got a bigger contract than Wentz with no playoff games won... just saying

funny the offense doesnt seem healthy the oline was JP, who cant play, Issac, hurt kelce, Pryor, and driscoll after a injured lane got more injured. thats 3 back ups to the backups.

Ertz still out

Djax out

the wrs were alshon, who hasnt done squat since 2017, a rookie in reagor, travis fulgham who got cut from 2 other teams this year, and ward who was a practice squad ex qb till late last year.

if you think this is healthy and or good, you have no concept of what good or bad is

SEA 30, Eagles 20

Russell Wilson will do what Russell Wilson does.  The good news is the Chickens’ defense is so bad, the Eagles will get to 20 points.  They might even have the lead for the first time in three games.

Our offense is the cure all for any bad defense. We can barely move the ball or score anymore.

When was the last time you saw that kind of effort from an Eagles receiver?

You can't seriously factor Desean into the injury situation.

Does anyone know how to look up the Eagles average starting field position as well as their opponent’s ASFP?

They have to be bottom 5 at best.

I never questioned anyone’s effort. Confidence, tho? Absolutely.

why? he is the only starting caliber wr we have had on the roster the past 2 years, but injured.

that fact is Howies fault, not Wentzs fault

I kind of disagree with the idea that any new coach wouldn't want to work with Wentz. This season is a write off, but Wentz does have ability, and a new coach could easily think they can get that ability back. Whether or not that actually happens is another story.

Now what I could easily see, is a new coach not wanting to work under Howie, and just biding their time for another opportunity.

I'm sure a new coach would look at film and make his own decisions on Wentz. Or maybe he would have to start 14 different quarter backs just to see if it's Carson or someone else on offense that's the problem.

Yeah, I'm sure they'd want to do their research. Film study, likely talk to people to find out if the coachability issues are real or unfounded. Find out about his mental state. I think Wentz is obviously done this season, maybe even under this staff. No idea how a new staff would feel about him.

To think otherwise is nonsense. 1) there’s 32 of these positions on the world. There are assistants willing to cut a nut off for this job and the chance to work with him 2) 2 years ago the NFL players voted him the 3rd best overall player in the entire league. The guy has ability 3) yes, he’s been bad this year 4) just once I’d like to see an Eagle QB. with some really talented WR’s

Agree anyone that says they won't coach here because of Wentz is probably a tater

No, the TATErs are the ones who think top coaching candidates will willingly choose to hitch their wagon to Wentz.  Best case is they tell Lurie from the jump they'll give him a short leash, but if he doesn't figure it out quick they're empowered to dump him.

If Lurie insists on the new coach making it work with Wentz, he'll have to move onto Tier C or D candidates before finding someone willing to go along.

The bolded is at least fair. Any offensive coach who thinks he's worth a damn could easily think they're the guy to make Wentz their own restoration project, but they won't give him unlimited time.
