Naw. We'll beat the Cowpies and screw ourselves.

I'd hope Lurie and/or Howie would have the good sense to tank at that point.  Prob not Howie though if he feels his job is on the line.

Good catch.  Cut/trade Barnett = $10M cap savings in 2021.

Yeah Barnett's little 2-3 week fizzle of playing well doesn't change the fact that he was a bad pick who isn't work $10m next year.

A new GM would punt him instantly under that reality.  Howie is conflicted, as he is already on the hot seat....he won't want to punt on his draft pick.  I can already tell you Howie's rationale...extend one of your "good" draft picks who started at a premium position and is still only 24.  That will bring down the 2021 cap number.  You'd have to spend some $$$ on a rotational DE anyway as a replacement.

If Howie punts on him, it's just another draft pick nail in his own coffin.

We don't have to tank. We aren't beating anyone the rest of the year. Write it down, yes, we're that bad.

He’s also forgetting that he doesn’t live in an igloo, which means there is also a substantial capital expenditure for a new fridge — which will also get torched, because his shiny new house still has the same electrical and foundation issues.

When you build a new house you like to use the same electrical grid and foundation as the old one?

And we don't have to tank in 2021 or 2022 either.  We'll just be that bad unless Lurie allows Howie to continue kicking the can down the road in a misguided attempt to "win now".

Howie will definitely make all sorts of counterproductive decisions in order to save his own @ss.  Lurie must step in and not let him.

We are better than Dallas.  They are the worst team in football and would not beat the Jets right now.

He really can't kick it much further.

The Redskins may be resting their starters the last week.

A really interesting decision this offseason, perhaps reflective of their overall approach to this cap situation, will be the fate of Malik Jackson.

1.  Keep him.  $13.6m cap hit.  Obviously exceeds his value as a player, but he's a decent DT.  This also puts you on the hook for >$9m of guarantees in 2022.

2.  Cut him before June 1.  Save $1m, eat $12.6m.  Sounds like a rough deal, but you are free and clear for 2022.

3.  Cut him after June 1.  It saves $10m of 2021 cap, but you kick the can to a completely empty and needless $9m cap hit in 2022.

WTF was Howie doing structuring guaranteed 8 figure cap hits on players that will be 32 years old?

It's a rebuild man.  No talent, up and down the roster.  Make all the cuts you can, eat the dead cap space.  Play all the kids you can next year and try to find talent there.  Prioritize draft picks, consider/make trades of guys like Lane, Ertz, etc for draft picks.  Come up fighting in 2022.  I dont see any other way.

I 100% disagree. We are not beating Dallas.

We are already top 2 in the NFL for most cap dollars committed to the books from 2023-2025.

I don't know. If you insert Andy Dalton into that disgusting SNF game in place of Ben DiNucci...

Bottom line is if you fix or replace the QB, you change the outlook for this team. This idea that the Eagles are hopelessly untalented is misguided.

and? Most of our o-line are back-ups or a has been, most of our receivers are has beens or jags. We have 1 running back that is always injured. A broken quarterback and a t.e. that went downhill at light speed. On defense we have nothing but jags in the back 7 except for slay. We aint beating no one.

They are more talented.

Eagles are healthier, although the blog will surely challenge that.

The real difference though, is that Dallas is enduring a full scale revolt behind the scenes.  The Eagles are at least focused on playing football.  That's all the difference in the 4th quarter of the toilet bowl.

I like the optimism but give me a for instance of talent? I'll give you reagor, sanders, and goedert. On defense I'll give you most of the d-line and slay.

Question for those that understand how the cap works: if Wentz did announce a surprise early retirement this off-season, how does that work cap wise?

The most talented player on the team is a first round pick who was projected early 2nd, runs bad routes, and is being outshined by his fellow rookie WRs.

The second most talented player on the team is a #3 rotational DE with 4 sacks.

Also figuring into this equation are a backup TE, a 30 year old CB who won't be good by the time the team turns around and an OT who the coach prefers on the bench and has looked pretty bad in his recent action.

If they aren't hopelessly untalented, they are about as close to it as a CB is to JJAW on a deep route.

It would be a Christmas cap miracle.

everybody on these boards thought howie was a genius and that the cap could just be manipulated year to year.  well...

I believe it would be a major cap hit for 2021 ($59M), but after we would be free.

Go Cowboys. They extra time to get healthy for the vulnerable Ravens

So there will be no Thursday night game that week. That's a win

Also, this is some BS if they let Lamar play

Wentz is only accelerating into the big money years of his contract now.  He'd be walking away from a lot of money...
