Ok? You can't do that for the eagles drafting in the top half of the first round for the past probably 5 times they've been in that position.

i can list a crap load of flat out busts taken in the 1st and 2nd rds, im not gonna cherry pick the very few times they have drafted in the top half of each rd, they rarely draft there so its a limited sample size, but right off the bat McDougal comes to mind.

That was a trade up... but man... that was a miss.   I'll list a few from 1999 to today.  McNabb, Simon, McDougle, Bunkley, Graham, Cox, Wentz, and Barnett.  These are the only top 15s they've had in the last 20 years that I can recall.

Sure is.  And others can voice their opinion on your comments.  That's how it works.

yup that is what I love, a good debate is healthy 🙂

That's the entire point, the few times the eagles draft in the first half of the round they pick better than they do in the last half of the round. And its obviously much better in the last few times.

You're missing lane. Only two you can argue for being busts are mcdougle and probably bunkley. I don't remember bunkly being terrible, just not as good as he should have been given his draft position. But I was pretty young at that time so I could definitely be wrong.

4 of the last 5 picks in the first half of the round have been stars (Graham, Cox, lane, wentz), and Barnett has been average.

And funny enough, bunkley and Barnett were both selected 14th overall and did not perform to the expectations of that pick. So I guess the eagles only draft well in the first 13 picks of the draft, my mistake.

I will say this... sitting in the top 10 helps with fixing the offense.

Lol every season at the end I'm regretting that I don't know anything about college ball. Just could never get into it

BTW if we lose out then we're getting #5. We can get #4 if some other things happen

Last I checked before the Browns game the Eagles were 11th in total defense and 27th in total offense.  Without any money to spend in FA this has to be an offense focused draft

Well, when you have the 32nd QB out of 32, it's pretty reasonable to assume that even a QB somewhere in the 20s would win this team more games.

Having a QB be 1 out of 32 involves a lot more than just the QB.  It requires elite pass targets and a great pass blocking OL.

Likewise, 32 out of 32 means you have garbage targets and a poor pass blocking OL.

Now, the QB is the most important piece of that puzzle, so a lot falls on Wentz' lap.  But in the team sport of football, any statistical extremes are a team effort.

Just having a bad QB doesn't give you the worst pass offense in football.  Our WRs suck as badly as ever and our OL is worse than it has been in recent history.

Which is scary as hell if Howie isn't fired

If Wentz wasn’t collapsing like a dying star, he would be a logical restructure to open a bunch of cap space. That’s not really a good option at the moment, even if we might have to bite the bullet.

Everything about this team stinks. I cannot believe we’re at this depth of hell.

What level would say we are on? 5, 6, or 7?

@ManuManu I owe you an apology. I really did not come away impressed Curtis Samuels before this year but the more I watch Carolina on the all 22 with Matt ruhle and joe Brady they do a terrific job at utilizing his strengths and maximizing what he does best. He has been great for the last five weeks outside of one game. They are super creative with how they get him the ball and how they use them. running the ball, him coming across the field on crossing routes, him going down field him and in motion to get him some more space. Carolina has done a masterful job this year of maximizing a guy that I thought for 2 to 3 years was not as great as the analytics you’d post.

Either a QB or D-lineman when picking that high.

Makes you wonder if they are picking top 5 if they would take a Jamar Chase or another WR.

Top ten look corner or OT

There are too many variables right now, but corner is most likely I think. Maybe Patrick Surtain II.

Just realized we only have 1 more 1 pm game this year. That’s the last game against Washington.

I’d be thrilled with surtain. Would be your no. 2 until slay declines and then can become your no. 1. He’s definitely one kid i look at inside the top 10.

Yeah, my thinking is if Howie is still GM, they'll avoid tackle after taking Dillard, receiver after taking Reagor, and DL after taking Barnett. Corner is the other valuable position that they haven't drafted in the first round. I just want the best player. Open to anything.

We can say all the bad things we want about our #2 cb’s and Slay’s age....adding an outstanding cb to this team does nothing to change our current problems or future outlook.

Only if Schwartz is gone

If there is a potential #1 wr, that’s a big help.

If there is a potential elite pass rusher, that’s not really the way to build a championship team anymore, but it would be worth the pick.

OT could certainly be worthwhile, but it would also be nice to not burn a first round pick on the same position as a 2019 first round pick working on his bust status.

CB...no.  Sure, an all-pro cb, relative to the most common outcomes of a top 10 pick, isn’t so bad.  But that’s just not the building block you start with to get your team back on track.  Not in 2020 when CB aren’t even allowed to cover WRs.

LB, RB, S...forget about it top 10.

circling back to the "if Wentz retires, cap consequences” post. Closest example is obviously Luck. According to this Luck post retirement was $24M cap hit but only because they didn’t go after his signing bonus money or his roster bonus he was paid a few months ago. Theoretically he could have been $0. So for Wentz it could range from $0 to $26M depending on what they let him keep and when bonuses are paid out.

True, but they want Luck to return. We likely wouldn't with Wentz

I would be very happy with a trade back from #5, honestly.  This team desperately needs talent... lots of it.
