10 million isn't a lot of money for a starting DE.

If we gave up a 4th round pick for Avery, I doubt they would take less than a 2nd/3rd for Barnett.

So we have to cite our own stupidity for the price for Barnett.

Teams will always overpay for pass rush. It happens every year.

Barnett is owed $10m next year.  In true Howie fashion, I expect a 4 year deal that lowers his cap number next year to 2-3m while paying him around 10-12m per year, mostly guaranteed, on the back end.

Keeps the starting DE and saves 7-8m next year.

Just like we kept Agholor on the 5th year option, we're going to do the same with Barnett. We don't get a comp pick if he signs as a FA with a declined option. If we weren't going to keep him, we would have traded him at the deadline.

That's a very strong argument.  If Howie sticks around, I agree, that's what will happen.  However, if he's not, I think that they let him go.   Its a tricky situation.  With Howie, things will go one way... likely much more can kicking, in fact, we saw him already do that with Cox this season.  Without Howie, I think they will take the rip the band-aid off approach.   Barnett isn't worth $10M.

Someone MIGHT pay Barnett $10m.  No one would trade a pick for Barnett AND pay him $10m.

He has zero trade value at that cap number.  7th round pick.

I see you're back to looneyville.

The other option is signing a new contract, ie less than 10M cap hit for 2021, but allows him to get more in 2022.

Given the current cap situation where the Eagles need to get rid of about $60M salary, I think Barnett’s future will depend on what the Eagles decide to do with Brandon Graham — he’s about $17M next season and would be a $13M savings if cut with a post June 1 designation.  Malik Jackson will likely be gone for sure to save $10M with Cox and Hargrave here.

If Malik and Graham are both gone the Eagles likely need to get Barnett signed.  If they keep Graham I’m not so sure

Yea and sanity is thinking Barnett could fetch a 2nd.

Lol Doug said Hurts hasn't had an increase in practice and said he wont reveal any game plan on him

And the collecting crying from the haters

I wouldn’t be in favor of starting Hurts, but if it gets to halftime again and the offense looks stagnant like it was against the Giants and Browns, I would have no problem putting Hurts at QB for the second half and see what the effect on the team is.

Game plan? Doug doesnt even know what that is. He just closes his eyes and points to the play chart.

I don't know if it's feasible considering the 2021 cap, but I'd let Barnett play out his option year next year. Premature extensions have not been great for this team lately. Barnett has been pretty good this year despite not being a game wrecker.

Paul Domowitch wrote what has seemed obvious to me from the outside.

"There are people both inside and outside of the organization who have told me [Doug Pederson] wouldn’t be totally unhappy if he ends up getting fired. He won’t have any trouble getting another head job. He might have more say over personnel someplace else."

I just don't see how all 3 of Wentz, Pederson, and Howie can be here next season.

Zach Ertz went from playing Monday to not playing now

I really feel like Lurie and Howie have treated Doug like he’s Barry Switzer. It’s amazing the lack of respect he seems to have in the organization.

I understand setting up the staff for him initially with Schwartz and the holdovers, but to make him fire assistants and force outside voices on him have proven to be mistakes. You’d think a Super Bowl-winning coach (our first, and with a backup QB) would earn him a little more sway.

Doing some quick math, Eagles can easily save 3-4M for both Hargrave/Slay by trading base salary for roster bonus. It would push money out to 2022, but Slay would still be cuttable and Hargrave is likely still on the 2022 roster anyway (he'd be 29).

Doug confirmed Pryor at RT

Guess Goedert is going to block a lot.

Dunlap has been a big boost, but their edge play still is incredibly average at best.

But it is Pryor...

I would welcome it, but at the same time, the defense is average and the offense is sucksville, granted I think a lot of that is scheme, but I also see a talent disparity with the rest of the league.  They need to find some true playmakers on offense.

I believe there is talent on this team.  Wouldn't surprise me if new coaches on both sides could bring that talent out more than the current coaches.

If picking top 5 I just dont want another developmental, down the road, needs to learn type of player.  We have enough of those guys that didnt develop.  Picking top 5-10 I want someone that can start and contribute right away.

May be hard for you to believe not every mid 1st round pick turns out to be fletcher Cox but it’s true. Barnett’s stats are above average for where he was drafted.

Sadly, that's probably accurate.

I disagree about Doug getting another HC job.  Maybe as an OC but dont think a head coaching job.  With how great Wentz looked in 2017 and he has regressed since that doesn't look good.  Doug runs the offense and it really hasnt looked good since 2017.  I think people around the league have noticed this.  There were reports not that long ago that many around the league think he's in way over his head as a coach.  I dont see him getting another opportunity.  At least not right away.

I think the problem with him is injuries and missing games.  But if he goes elsewhere I'm sure he'll end up never missing games.
