He's not a franchise QB.  Show me 1 franchise QB who has been this awful for this long.

How long do you think he’s been bad?

2016: below average (no prob because he was a rookie)

2017: great (in hindsight it was primarily due to an all-time great team around him)

2018: mediocre

2019: mediocre

2020: atrocious

Only in the mind of green sunglass wearing Eagles homers is this guy a "franchise QB".  Nick Foles posted a better statistical season than Wentz ever has but you don't see anyone mistaking him for one.

He’s been bad, worse than bad, for 2020.

He was average for half of 2019 and put the team on his back for the other half.  The way in which he put the team on his back isn’t how you would want your franchise qb to play...but he heroically did everything possible with what little he had.

He was good in 2018.

He was elite in 2017.

Pretty much a relentless, linear decline.

If we're getting a new coaching staff in 2021, it doesn't matter if Wentz' confidence is shot now or if he struggles. That's fixable with a new voice.

Doug is going to just increase Hurts' playing instead of trying to change his play calling to help out Wentz...

Oh Im sure Doug will change his play calling for Hurts like he did with Foles. You will see a more balanced call sheet when Hurts goes in. Then once Carson goes in Doug will go back to a 70/30 pass/run sheet calling the same boring 3 route combo play he loves so much. Its funny how Doug gets so one minded when Carson is in, but see's the light when a new QB comes in.

I swear, some of you guys need to get off your meds (or get in line for your refills)

Doug is a players coach; how do you know some of the players haven't gone to him and asked him to try something different?  You have to coach the entire roster, not just a few guys.  There's always been a narrative on here that Wentz is some sort of fragile Faberge Egg; that it would be cataclysmic to draft a QB for competition, or take him out of a game for performance reasons.  Every player should have competition to make him better and every player should be accountable for their role in the overall success of the team.

There are six games left in the season.  The team has to start winning now to make the playoffs.  What are people afraid of?  That Hurts will go in and provide a spark, move the offense, make some big plays, win games?  That's what he was drafted to do.  If that happens then you ride the hot hand for the remainder of this season, whichever QB that will be.  Maybe people think that Wentz is about to make a remarkable transformation and go off like the Wentz of 2017?  That's not going to happen with the current personnel or playcaller.

With a full offseason program, OTA, training camp in 2021 the expectation will be that Wentz will be the #1 QB, regardless of what happens in the last 6 games this season -- unless he gets outplayed in training camp, which I'm sure none of you believe will happen -- so don't worry about it.

QB controversies are for the simple-minded.

Who releases this news anyway? And why?

Every single game this year

Just saw that the Broncos were told yesterday all their QBs have been ruled ruled ineligible for being exposed to another QB who tested positive. They're now trying to get their WR, who played QB at Wake Forest, some reps, and Royce Freeman will serve as wildcat and emergency QB. Wild stuff.

COVID may save Elway though I think they should fire him anyway

I know of a team that might be willing to TRADE them a QB.

Lots of folks overrate his 2018 season because of the QB rating and TD/INT ratio. He was not very good at all that year and limped the team to 5-6.

Exactly.  Dude was a TO machine as always with fumbles left and right, stupid decisions, and hero ball.  Wentz was NOT good in 2018.

Let me say this; I think there is a better chance that Wentz miraculously fixes a couple issues and returns to 2017 than there is that Hurts ever gets that good.  So I still think Wentz has a better chance,  both now and in the future, of playing like a franchise qb than Hurts.

I don’t think either will happen, but I like Wentz’ odds better.

There is a time to forge ahead and push through it...and there is a time to step back.  This is a time to step back.  In Wentz’ own interest, he needs to be removed from this dumpster fire for a couple weeks.  He’s never going to pull out of this tailspin just by bashing his head against the same wall in the same fashion week after week.

As we all know, part of what made 2017 so dominant for Wentz was his mobility.  Not even just running when the play breaks down but scrambling to buy time and make a throw down field.  Hell even his rookie year he was doing that.  Remember the scramble and toss to Sproles for a long TD vs Pittsburgh?  You just dont see that anymore.  It's not like in 2017 he was Peyton Manning back there from the pocket.  His scrambling, mobility, escapability, etc is gone and so is the 2017 Wentz.

It's part of the reason I want to see Hurts.  His running adds another dimension that teams have to prepare for.  Obviously you have to be able to throw as a QB but having that running element makes you so dangerous.  Just being able to run can only last so long.  Just ask Lamar Jackson.

It's the only reason I want to see that game. I want to see that play out.

Hurts playing poorly is the best-case scenario because it would shut up some fans clamoring for Hurts.

There'd be upteen excuses for why Hurts is playing bad from a certain few.

I think it is hard to settle on solutions when we still don’t know the causes.

wentz is putrid, no doubt. Is that because he was a flash in the pan and has returned to normal?  Is it Doug?  The OL?  Weapons?  Damaged psyche?

Play calling is awful. Is that Doug’s fault and previous coaches masked his deficiencies?  Is it because players aren’t executing?  Howie’s meddling?

And our drafting has been awful for years. Howie?  The collective brain trust?  Bad philosophy?  Scouting?

The one thing I have to keep reminding myself is that there is a whole lot of complexity that we simply don’t know.

if I have to assign blame, #1 for me is Howie. This roster is once again poorly constructed and the buck stops with him. From there, I think everything else flows...

Great post.   But... when there's this many issues, the fish stinks from the head down.  Start with Howie... and let the ax trickle down the tree.   Wentz is really unmovable at this point, so he gets a year with the new GM and new HC to figure out what to do moving forward.   Hurts is a wasted pick for this team.  Maybe they can someday recoup something, but that plan was a bad one from the moment it hatched in the brains of Howie and Co... sunk cost.  Try to recoup something, but don't expect much.

well.... Broncos... it fits.  ;)

Giants showing they are still a bad team.    Opening drive TD, followed by giving up a TD on the kickoff.
