Pauline isn’t exactly a good writer. He’s good at breaking down prospects he watches and speaking on it. Occassionally he’ll drop a nugget That he hears like he did the other day

I'm still perplexed why he said KJ Hamler was the second best WR prospect in this last draft

He’s had times in the past where he really falls in love with a prospect. I also think he said he didn’t think he’d go above certain wide receivers just that he felt he could be the second

Interesting

They're not happy with Scott/Clement for sure.

Some people just can't f-ing wait to interject a divisive topic like Howie's Draft Performance Masks or Politics in here.  It's like they sit on the sidelines and pounce at the chance.  It's plainly obvious fellas.  And you know who you are.

FYP

I find their plans for Alshon Jeffery to be so poorly thought out.

First, they unnecessarily extend him last year after drafting his replacement in the draft.  Then Howie tries (and fails) to trade him very shortly after that extension.  After a horrible year in which the wheels have fallen off, he THEN adds a major injury to accelerate his decline (the only acceleration Jeffery is doing).

This left Howie with an interesting dilemma.  Cut him before June, which I had argued for...and endure an absolutely absurd and humiliating $26.1m dead cap number to Jeffery.  But...we can afford it.  That moves takes exactly $10.7m from this year's cap and saves it in 2021, when we are going to have problems.  They would be free and clear of Alshon's contract in 2021 and would have $10.7m more space than they will now have.

Option B, the door Howie did take...Keep him on the roster to the tune of $15.4m.  When they release him this offseason, they will now have a $10.7m cap hit for 2021.

So here's the question....why on Earth would you be willing to pay $10.7m of 2021 money for whatever handful of games he's going to give us in 2020?  And I find myself arriving at only 1 answer...it's less of an admission of failure than cutting him and paying $26.1m for nothing.  So instead, they'll pay him $15.4m to sit inactive and then clog the offense this year while paying him $10.7m to do nothing next year.  Just a touch easier to brush under the rug.

Really shouldn't be anything divisive about Howie's draft performance.

From their wording, I'm guessing Freeman was on the transaction list today, but will have to do the two days of COVID testing and the visit will officially happen Monday.

Oh yeah maybe they finally realized that it helps to have a running game

Makes sense as scott and clement didn’t look great. sanders with a hammy issue that may or may not be an issue going forward. Freeman actually fits the offense well and if sanders has to miss time can step in.

I think it might be more about pass protection, to be honest.

I think it’s that. And likely not thrilled what they saw in the running game out of clement and Scott last week On top of that. Freeman would give them a solid backup to sanders who’s hammy might be an issue as the season goes along. Not only that he can do a lot of the things well that fits this offense.

Well....there is a reasonable expectation that Desean will go down at some point later this season.

Reagor and Hightower are still unknowns with regards to dependability.

JJAW isn't there yet and Ward is just Ward.

When healthy, Alshon can be an effective WR.  Worth $15M?  No way.  But his cap number isn't relevant if/when Carson has limited options at WR.

IMO, he is a very expensive insurance policy.

Every RB loses at some point in pass pro. He also blew one in our playoff game against Atlanta

1.  Sunday's game should not be considered an indictment of Boston Scott, just a revision of his job description.  He's a scatback only.  Get him screens.  Get him the ball in space.  RB draws in passing situations.  He cannot be the backup to the 3-down primary back.  As we saw, it turns 1 problem into 2.

2.  Clement is toast.  We already knew that, but apparently we needed to double check.  Thanks for the memories in the SB run and for playing like a stud in the SB.  I don't know what the heck happened with those injuries, but it's time to find a new career.

3.  They need to sign a new RB and release Clement.  They don't need a stud.  A Sanders/Scott duo is enough when healthy.  But they need someone capable of shouldering the load for 1-2 games this year and 1-2 series per game when Sanders is resting.  If you shake a tree in your backyard hard enough, a RB with NFL experience capable of this will fall out of it.

There is a difference between missing your assignment and failing physically.

The goal for RBs and TEs when blocking is to lose as slowly as possible.

I’m not, even a little.

True, but it’s representative — he doesn’t really give full effort in pass pro in general; still, he’s a lot better running the ball than Scott or Clement, and Scott didn’t really get it done in blitz pickup either.

Freeman wanted too much money a couple of months ago — I wonder if his price has come down.
