A couple things I'd be mulling over if I were in Doug's shoes:

1. What's the best way to ENSURE I get fired?  Switch to Hurts and let everyone see how unprepared he is, that there's no future there, and that I have 2 failed QBs.

2. What's the best way to find new life and job security?  Switch to Hurts, let him turn some heads and suggest that he may be the future here.  Then you have to keep the coach who is mentoring him along.

Doug's extreme aversion to using Hurts at this point probably tells you what he thinks of Hurts and his future as a QB.

So I listen to the start of the inside the birds podcast with caplan saying he had two sources tell him that Carson Wentz is now keeping his eyes down and not up the field. Which kind of tells me he’s worried about getting protection, he is worried about getting hit and he probably seeing ghost out there when he does. That is a massive issue of those scouts are accurate.

Of course this is what's happening. It happens to just about any QB when they get hit as much as Carson has. You start getting smacked by 300-lb freaks, you're going to start looking at the rush.

And is being used incorrectly... but Reagor has shown zero explosion.  Maybe he's uncertain of his role his responsibility, etc. and that's hurting him, but at some point I'd like to see some elite athleticism from him, just a glimpse.

Reagor will be fine, imo.  I think he's still early in the "developmental/learning" stages.  Once he gets comfortable with the routes/playbook/QB, etc, we'll likely see him begin to show us his "flashes".

That said, he's already shown (at least twice, if I recall) his exceptional leaping ability and his ability to go up and "get the ball" with his hands. (He's not a body catcher...so that's a huge plus for now, imo).

It actually is still early for Reagor, but I can't say I'm not disappointed.

Regardless, saying that any Eagles draft pick "will be fine" has become a kiss of death, like a vote of confidence in an embattled head coach.  The fact that you have to lay out a timetable just for him to show flashes does not reassure me.

Slow down buddy.  Don't make me go archive the old board.  You were jumping for joy with that pick.  :P

I'm joking btw....if I recall, I think you wanted a different position/player but were still (at least :P) "ok" with the pick. ;)

correct. I actually went and looked it up myself previously to be sure.  I did begin defending the pick, but my immediate reaction to the pick, that night right when it was made was not hype. It was that I hoped for a different position, or a speed WR if we DID go WR there. I had a ton of WR options for speed that I woulda taken over him. Although I did think he would turn out, I didnt think he was what we needed.

I agree.  And this is in no way intended to criticize Wentz but I have no idea how keeping him out there when he's in this state of mind will somehow "help him come out of his funk".  I'm pretty sure any coach at any level would have pulled him by now....for his own sake.

I don''t recall JJAW being anyone's top choice.  I do think some people thought he was a good player.

I did. I really pushed hard to convince people on his jump ball ability. I said hes beyond a contested catch guy. He makes combat catches.

I also believed in his quickness off the line. He didnt have speed to maintain separation but he a lot of times beat CBs very quickly off the line in college.

And I thought he would settle in here as a slot WR.

But no, at that point in round 2 I had other positions on my mind. At WR I had a bunch of speed WRs in mind, even in to later rounds who I felt were better fits than JJAW for us.

The WR position is among the toughest transitions to the NFL.  Other than QB, it's typically the longest/hardest.  Other than the last few years (the last couple of years have been outliers in terms of "NFL ready" WR's) most WR's take at least a year, sometimes two, to really begin to perform at the NFL level.   Add the fact that there was no pre-season and a shortened camp, well, there you have it.

I think between now and the end of the season he'll start coming into his own....I would hope, anyway.

I'll give you an out.  You were "spot on" about Tee Higgins in this year's class.  ;)

I look forward to when everyone loses their mind when we pass on chase to draft a guy everyone wasn’t as high on.

It's going to be ugly, especially now that Patrick Peterson has said that Chase is a combination of DeAndre Hopkins and DK Metcalf.  That's a huge red flag for the Eagles to draft him.

I'm sure he would be murdered before Lurie had a chance to fire him

That bolded point is exactly the reason why I don’t think doug wants to play Jalen Hurts. If Jalen hurts struggles that means the Eagles gave him two quarterbacks that Jeffrey lurie signed off on as potential franchise quarterback and he has struggled with them.  That not only hurts Doug with the Eagles it hurts doug in future attempts to be a head coach.

OMG, Big Ben missed a wide open WR right in front of him.  Better cut him and start Mason Rudolph.

Let's make sure someone posts the video while ignoring the other 60 plays.

He threw 23 interceptions in his 3rd season too.  What a dumb decision for the Steelers to stick with the guy after he showed in previous seasons what a talent he can be.

So reports from ESPN today: Carson Wentz was "Hurt” with the Eagles drafting Jalen Hurts and there were "Internal Riffs” between scouts and Roseman who wanted Justin Jefferson and Jeremy Chinn over Reagor and Hurts.

I can believe both stories after seeing how the Eagles are performing. There will be a big change in the offseason. It will be Doug or Roseman.

At one point Sunday afternoon, those 2 players had 2 TDs each with one of them playing defense.  I drank a lot of beer after I noticed that.

Bad clock management... like worst ever.

I liked the 4th down call, you’ve got to bring that down !

We’re going to have to complete 40 passes per game to get to that number

Matt Canada is an intriguing option at OC. He’s currently the Steelers QB coach.

So according to NextGenStats, which uses RFID tracking, Reagor is above-average from a separation perspective. He's surprisingly higher than Jefferson, Jeudy, Lamb, Ruggs, etc.

https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/stats/receiving/#average-separation
Like any stats, there's noise. He's played less games and that matters. Also, because he's smaller, Reagor needs more separation to win consistently. I just wanted to post this for the crowd that says "Reagor can't separate". That's clearly not the case.

That's an odd list.  If Devante Parker is the absolute worst at creating separation in all of football, does this stat even matter?  Also, I'm laughing at Tyreke Hill having the same average as Larry Fitzgerald.

Thank god i came up before tinder...seems like a great way to catch herpes

Well the blog went places yesterday! 😂

For the sake of balanced argument - I'm 31 and met my now girlfriend on Tinder 2 years ago. We're entering a civil partnership next month and likely will get married in the next couple years. Previously I dated another girl I met on Tinder for about a year. Been on a bunch of other Tinder dates in the past - some good, some bad. Same as any other way of meeting someone.

In my opinion, it's no different to "real life" except you can just increase the volume of new people you can meet in a week or month or whatever, especially if work limits the amount of free time you have to go out. Of course the pool of suitors is larger for the other person too, so there's pros and cons. But just like "real life", there's all kinds of people looking for all kinds of outcomes and experiences. You just need to figure out whose intentions align with yours but again... that's no different to any other form of meeting people.
