Speaking of Elliot, what’s wrong with him this year?  I don’t see a difference between his misses and successes.

We barely run as is but we need 7 RBs between the active roster and practice squad

The beat reporters said in camp the D had fun knocking him down.  I am guessing this is for morale for our LBs and Ss.

Peters is getting surgery on his toe.  That would end his season and almost certainly his tenure with the team as a player.  The change of guards finally happening.

If Peters wants to play one more year, it's going to be as a backup making veteran minimum.

No one is going to write him in as a starter at this point in his career, given his declining skills and questionable durability.

Though I could see him returning as a backup, mentor and coaching intern.

i dont know what is wrong with him,  it feels like the flip of a coin when he goes up there to kick. He used to be clutch on the long ones, not so much this year

I didn’t mean that God was mythical.  I was myopically reacting to what seemed like an excuse to me.

My wife has a cousin who is a ne’erdowell.  Every time his family has a negative thing happen, he claims it is God’s plan rather than owning up for his own failures and striving to do better.  Fired for all sorts of justified reasons, it is God’s plan.   That’s blaming God and not taking responsibility. I would say mythical.   I have to wonder if Carson isn’t taking responsibility for his failure to address his issues.  He sure hasn’t fixed them.  My grandfather, a devout Lutheran, would say that God isn’t going to remove that rusty nut (after Dad or one of his brothers asked for divine intervention) so we are going to have to figure out how to do it. My meaning was more along the way my Grandpa meant.

No offense meant to you or others.

I see where you're coming from.  And most folks typically will follow it up with something along the lines of, ""God willing, I will get this corrected, work harder, etc". So when they do that, they are also taking accountability...the only difference is that they are "partnered with God" in their challenge.  (At least that's how I use it).

And that's exactly what Carson did when he followed it up with, "’ll keep pushing through this like I always do— trusting HIM and giving it everything I got!

Cox has been on the injury report a lot recently with his neck. I'm guessing he's an auto-IR once we're officially eliminated. Could happen soon if it gets worse.

Seems dangerous to play him if he's struggling with a neck injury

One of those was a ridiculous 57 yard attempt in Heinz stadium Doug had no right to even try. Other than the missed XP's he hasn't been terrible, but he's also not getting many tries which you have to wonder is Doug just being Doug with in game situations or does he not trust him.

I am leaning towards this ^

Love it when it works, and I respect it when he gambles with a good play call (even when it doesn't work out). But he has really been making bad decisions this year.

To me, it seems like he has a focus issue when it comes to extra points. It almost looks like he doesn't concentrate on XPs as much as FGs. He kicks the ball straighter on longer FGs.  I think this is a mental thing and Fipp should've been able to address it by now.  Maybe Fipp needs to talk to Jake before every XP briefly. Try different strategies.

He's missed 2 or 3 every year for whatever reason.

In other news... its turkey smoking day again... and I decided to also smoke some chuck roast (chunked into about 1" cubes) as a faux burnt ends appetizer...

And let me just tell you...

Not brisket burnt ends... but cooked way faster... close, very close.

Kickers are notoriously streaky.  I think we were spoiled having David Akers here for 12 years.  Those type of consistent, year-to-year kickers in the NFL have become a rarity.

You can look at our own history of kickers on this team. We drafted Alex Henery who was the all time most accurate kicker coming out of college (at the time) and he was here for only 3 years.  Same thing with Sturgis afterwards.

Most get whatever was throwing them off eventually corrected..sometimes the team waits it out, other times they'll have another Kicker come in at camp to compete, etc.

And the holds were all good. It's not a case of him kicking the laces.  It just looks like he doesn't concentrate on some of those kicks.  If it was a mechanical issue, then he would be missing more from longer distances, too.  He's always been better at mid to long range kicks vs. shorter ones and that to me is concentration/mental approach.

I will take the guy with the clutch mentality and accept that he is going to miss a few XPs a year. Its like me when I play a pickup game, dont let me shoot until it really matters.

True. But, that last XP he missed could've been huge.  It ended up not mattering. But, if he had made that, we would've been down by only 6 and a TD and XP would've won that game.  But, the long TD run made it all moot.

This may not be reflective of YOUR views, but, you (others in general) Cant tell me that part of the Hate Wentz draws is because he is openly Christian.

Which just amazes me.
