As we talk potential Doug replacements, has anyone mentioned Brian Daboll, Bills OC?

The Bills' deliberate and fantastically successful embrace of a modern, pass dominant NFL offense has occurred under his leadership.  On his watch, Josh Allen went from a very poor man's Carson Wentz to a very rich man's Carson Wentz.  So if you are in the save Wentz boat, who better to take a crack at it?...even more interesting, he was Hurts' OC at Alabama.

He studied under Saban and Belichick for years.  He's had multiple stints as an OC, not all successful, and seems to have synthesized all those lessons into great success in Buffalo.

I would think the transformation of the Buffalo offense will accelerate his name to the top of many lists.

We go over Howie what if's for the past, here's a fun one for the future...

What if Jordan Mailata looks like a stud franchise LT next year?  His contract expires after 2021.  What if he then takes a page out of "mentor" Jason Peters playbook and refuses to play under the tag?  Can the 2022 Eagles afford to extend him?

This is what pisses me off about the cap hell that Howie has us in.  Now is the time for reasonable extensions for the like of Mailata.  Can’t go there.

Well, I do think Howie would normally try to extend Mailata right now, but I actually think that wouldn't be a good move.

Option 1: Extend him now for a lot of money but way below what a franchise LT makes.  Mailata gets paid, loses hunger, development slows, and we are terribly overpaying guaranteed money to a guy that has played 4 football games in his life.

Option 2: Extend him now for a lot of money but way below what a franchise LT makes.  Mailata turns into a stud LT and holds out in 1 year.

Option 3: The back problems that landed him on IR in 2 of his first 3 years in the league prove to be a major ongoing problem and we are stuck with guaranteed money.

I wouldn't extend anyone until the last possible minute.  Value only goes down.  And if their value goes up, they'll hold out anyway.

If he struggles in 2021, he'll be affordable.  If he's a stud, they were going to have to fork it over anyway.

I think Mailata would be one of the easier deals to get done along the lines of Seumalo. He’s still young enough you can give him a 3 or so year extension at a reasonable/bargain price and he has time to get his payday if he pans out at a young age. Eagles have leverage with Dillard on the team.

I do. 24 hours, preferably.  Didnt have time for that with this one.  This turkey was gifted due to a broken freezer.

If you ever get to Houston, drive west to Fulshear to a place called Dozier’s.  Absolutely the best smoked turkey I have ever had.  Brined and slow smoked.  They used to make the best chicharrones or cracklin’s I have ever had. How come I can’t buy decent chicharrones or cracklin’s in PA.  Most folks fry them but smoked is the best way to cook them.

The back problems were BS.  After next year, Mailata has all the leverage. Howie sucks almost as much as the Art of the Deal "author” at negotiating.

Mike Borgonzi is a very prominent name in GM candidate circles right now, for good reason.  He’s the Director of Football Operations for the Kansas City Chiefs and has been with the organization since 2009, getting promoted 6 times in that span.

His background is in pro scouting and he has a reputation for being an expert at building collaborative management teams — a skill the Eagles really need

Only 8 of the last 22 ROY have been qb so it’s not as much of a lock as you guys think.

On the other hand 18 of the last 22 MVP have been QB. That one is pretty much locked in at QB.

all I know is that Howie is praying right now Herbert wins ROY.

Same with the Heisman it seems.  It kinda says that QBs are the only ones valuable to their team.

Maybe from now on they should do separate MVPs.  Like a QB MVP and then an offensive MVP for all other positions.

I Feel like they already did that with the offensive player of the year award

I want them to get a young guy like him.

Yup. Former player which might help too. Also worked under Pioli, Dorsey, Reid. I think he’s going to be on a lot of teams radar though.

I really like the first 3 picks there. Although is Smith a reach at #6?

Probably a little bit of a reach. Bengals took Chase at #3, though I'm a big Smith fan anyway.

This is sort of how I imagine the conversation went between Wentz and Doug when he was told he was getting benched.

"It was you, Dougie”

The whole notion that Wentz looking behind him at his backups being the reason that he’s been shook even on potentially good plays. The whole not being the QB that actually won the super bowl thing.

if the argument is Wentz has been bad because the talent and coaching around him I agree. I feel he’s missing stuff himself but unsure if that’s physical or mental.

if the argument is that he’s been bad because his confidence is shaken because of the factors I stated above, then I don’t believe them but if it were to be true I couldn’t sign off on him being our QB due to lacking confidence.

then I compared it to Aaron Rodgers and the Jordan Love situation. People said "well one is Aaron Rodgers a future HOF and the other is Carson Wentz.” To which I my original post about us seeing them two being similar back in 2017 came to be.

Personally I don't think drafting Hurts had anything to do with it. Part of it is his surrounding cast and part of it is him. But I think there is either something going on with his brain (left over from the Clowney concussion) or possibly his dedication to bulking up messed with his accuracy.

I don't know why, it might be the body type but I just get Steve Smith coming out of USC vibes when I watch Devonta Smith.  He's only 175 pounds at 6-1.  That's a twig in the NFL.  Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible college WR.  I just don't know how he will translate to the NFL.  In your scenario Chase is gone and that's who I want.  If he's gone I'm going corner or maybe trading down a few spots.  You look at the Bama WR who have had the most success in the NFL (Julio and Amari) they are built guys.  Julio is just a freak.  But they you look at Calvin Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs and they are all hovering around or about 190 and I think they even seem light.

I just don't know about him in the NFL.  I wouldn't be mad by any means.  I think John Hightower needs to bulk up a bit and he's 6-2 190.  We'll see.

Nah. This is when you get into a butterfly effect conundrum. Either he’s great on this team and you don’t need to double dip at round 1 WR or he absolutely sucks and you do. I don’t see any scenario you get current Jefferson and Chase on the same team.

Him being great doesn't mean the Eagles would be good and bad teams should draft the best player available.  Eagle fans should live by this drafting code for the next several years until the talent base is at an NFL level.

To me this seems to be the most logical explanation

Same reason you can't find decent scrapple outside of this area.

You do realize that the issues with the Eagles' talent is because of the front office and not the fans, right?

The fans don't make the picks, or else Jefferson would have been the pick by me.

Just saying this team can and may need to draft consecutive high quality players in the same position group and as a fan that should be OK.

jefferson would have been the pick by 90% of the fans

and hurts in the 2nd never would have been thought of.

Not one fan would have drafted JJAW or JMATT
