He's sucked this year. Do we need to say it after every time we say Wentz can be fixed? I swear it's like if you say it's the Oline, play calling, and receivers then that must mean that Wentz is absolved of everything. He's played like crap this season. He hasn't played like crap for his entire career though

I’m hopeful Wentz can be fixed, but I don’t think that’ll happen in Philly. There has to be major changes to coaching staff especially QB coach for me to really get behind that narrative. Also another 1st & probably 2nd round pick on adding more offensive talent for him. I think Wentz can still reach his potential, but I fear the only way that can happen is with a change of scenery.

Last week I heard Taysom Hill get compared to Steve Young... Glad that will stop

Wyatt Davis will be there through about #12.

This team can't take a guard in the first round IMO.

Top 12 players: Lawrence-Fields-Wilson, Sewell, Chase-Smith-Waddle, Farley-Surtain, Parsons, Pitts, Rousseau.
I don't love all of those guys, but they should all test well and have been productive.

Me personally, I need Ja'Marr Chase. He's one of my favorite college players ever. I just love his game.

So for me it has always been Chase or bust.

Yes!

I mean had we lost today there was still no guarantee they take Chase, these dopes might trade out or take some random wr as per usual. Howie does need to go. I don’t think Lurie was or is getting rid of Howie though. It was or is probably Doug.

But, we don't.   And winning a game like this, which doesn't really matter makes it less likely that we will see a new GM.  This game wasn't about draft position to me, it was about Howie.  Howie needs to go.  And it isn't even about his drafting, its about his cap management (or more exactly, mismanagement).  He needs to go.  But, ultimately, every win here on out makes that less likely.   This team is flawed.  Howie is the architect.  Howie needs to go.  But, this game makes that less likely.

If you don’t trust the team to make the right moves to get better regardless of this year’s results then why watch? I know there are problems but I’m not gonna beg the players to lose a game because somehow winning makes this team worse. Been begging for wins all year and we got one against a quality opponent and it’s still doom and gloom in here.

Last year we were hurt this year we Fing suck.

He took the plays that were there for him. He didn't force things, he didn't wait for things to unfold. If he needed to he ran. That helps the OL and the helps the offense stay on the field.

Yes, that is what he did.  He used his legs when needed, though out of his 14 rushes I think 8-9 were by design and the other 5-6 were scrambles.  I don't think him rushing 14+ times every game is sustainable, but I get why they did it in his first game.  Wentz was clearly forcing things and not taking what the D was giving him.  I think he puts too much pressure on himself to be this great gunslinger QB and he needed to sit and get his head clear instead of just continuing to go through the same motions every week.  It wasn't doing him nor the team any good.

My issue isn't with either Wentz or Hurts.  It's with Doug.  Hurts can say what he wants about the play calling being the same, but they did tweak the O scheme enough to play to Hurts strengths and put him a good position to be successful.  The past 4 games our pass to run ratio was 75-25.  This game, if you consider about 8-9 of Hurts runs were designed and take out the 3 kneel downs at the end of the game then our pass to run ratio was 35-28 for 55.6% to 44.4%.  That's a balanced O and that's about what the ratio should be nearly every week give/take 5%.  There were more designed rollouts and the first ever reverse to Reagor which only took til the 13th game of the season.

What I wanted to see from Hurts this game was him playing smart and being able to handle himself out there, which he did.  He didn't take any sacks and created time for himself with his legs and threw the ball away at least a few times that I recall seeing.  That's what I wanted to see.  I figured he would take off and scramble some and gain some chunk yards with his legs so that was no surprise.  So most of what he did was positive.  The cons were he did have a TO at a somewhat crucial time and his YPA was only 5.6.  He was good not great, which is fine.  I think he earned another start with this performance.  I think the whole O was stale with Wentz since the O coaches did nothing to change anything when it was clear Wentz was struggling and needed help to make the game more manageable for him.  They never did that and that's where I have an issue.  They did the same with Foles, tweaking the O to play to his strengths, yet Doug goes over-the-top AR mode with Wentz even when we can all see he's out of sorts.  75-25 vs 55-45.  That makes a difference.  Hopefully they can stay close to that more balanced ratio with Hurts as we don't have the personnel to be a 75-25 team.  That's Mahomes  territory.

Hurts was sacked ZERO times against the best defense in the league.  Tell me again how it's the offensive line's fault.

Did you see Jason Peters, Matt Pryor, Jamon Brown or Sua Opeta out there?   Nope.     I've been calling for this exact OL for about 5 or 6 weeks... it was nice to see them out there.   They had a few issues with some blitzes, but overall, they were a massive upgrade over the slop that had been thrown out there... be it with Peters at LT or RG.  Pryor at RG or RT.  Opeta at LG.  Or Jamon Brown even dressed for the game.

And as pointed out in the game, players like Mailata, Herbig and Driscoll are playing better now than they have earlier in the year, because they've gotten the reps and gotten to work together more.  That's how it works with OL.  The more they play together, the better they go.

I hear ya.  But, an OG that's a stud for the next 10 years is better than all of the above... and most important for whatever QB we have next year or beyond.  The exception being Sewell.  But, he's gone before #5.  He's not an option.

That could all be true.

Do you know what else helps?  A QB making the right decisions, running when he needs to and throwing it away when there's nothing there.

Nope. It's not about that. It's because Hurts is in now. Cohesiveness doesn't matter. Oline doesn't need reps together

That's a great question.  I am asking myself if I will watch next year if Howie is back.   I can tell you that I am split... and I survived a lot of bad front offices and bad coaches over the years.   But, the real answer to why watch... is because this is MY team, they are temporary.  They will go... the question is 'when' not 'if'.  The question I need to answer is whether or not I will watch next year.

As for the quality opponent... meh.  The defense is a quality defense.  The Saints offense under Hill is pretty pedestrian.  I'm shocked they didn't try to beat the Eagles with Hill's legs, where they have shown to be very vulnerable this year... but that's on Peyton.

In all honesty, they both need to go. As well as the entire coaching staff. No need to just get rid of a couple coaches or add a few more special "assistants”.

Its over. This team is horrific. It’s hard to enjoy wins. Up 10 with the ball w/2 min to go and we have to get lucky and recover an on-side kick.

He did what Wentz won't do: throw the ball away.  However, his style is not sustainable.  Rushing 16 times will only end in one result.  But today it was a welcome reprieve.  Honestly, he was hit hard several times and moved well enough with guys rushing free at him to get away with it, but let's not pretend the line played a great game.  The hit on the Alson TD would have ended the game for many QBs.

Watching today's game, it's hard not to get excited about the OL moving forward. 3 starters were 23 or younger! Stoutland knows how to develop guys.

To unlock Wentz/Hurts, we need another play-making WR who can win "quickly". That's Smith/Chase for me.

Wentz has been bad this season but Doug won  a SB with Reich and DeFilipio.  Foles bailed out Doug at the end of the season in 2018, Carson bailed Doug and Howie out at the end of last season.  The team has gotten worse since the Super Bowl and the 2 people who have been healthy for the entire seasons are Doug and Howie.  Its not an indictment against Wentz to say he needs better coaching and play calling to play well, its an indictment against Doug that he can't do it.

Doug sure looked fine coaching a rookie 2nd year QB against the best defense in the league. Got any other BS excuses.

I'm in a Eagles facebook group and there's people in there that think Hurts is the future already

If this is even true(personally I think you're selling fans short) it's not the worst problem to have. It's still all about Wentz to so many. The entire TEAM played better today BECAUSE the QB played better. WRs, no longer asked to run forever to poorly thrown balls looked better. Lineman, no longer asked to pass block 10sec EVERY play looked fresher. The defense, now able to rest a little between outings without all the 3-n-outs and turnovers looked fresher.

The team collapsed this year because they relied on Wentz to perform. Everyone will look better with Hurts at QB. Hurts is Doug's last hope to save his job.
