I've seen more rollouts today than all season.

Fancy that.  Carson is the best, the best in the NFL out of the pocket and Doug wouldn't do it.

If you don’t trust the team to make the right moves to get better regardless of this year’s results then why watch? I know there are problems but I’m not gonna beg the players to lose a game because somehow winning makes this team worse. Been begging for wins all year and we got one against a quality opponent and it’s still doom and gloom in here.

Listen I’ve been getting killed for weeks for saying I can’t root for them to lose. You’re fighting a losing battle.

He did what Wentz won't do: throw the ball away.  However, his style is not sustainable.  Rushing 16 times will only end in one result.  But today it was a welcome reprieve.  Honestly, he was hit hard several times and moved well enough with guys rushing free at him to get away with it, but let's not pretend the line played a great game.  The hit on the Alson TD would have ended the game for many QBs.

One game at a time.

This was Hurts' 1st NFL start against the best defense in the league.

I think we are going 2-1 if we get the dbs back, they aren’t going to quit. It’s the reality.

I'm just going to put this out there for you guys to bash me; I'm not happy with the development trajectory we've seen from Reagor this year.

We saw them running the ball. How's that not the biggest story

Like I said, nice reprieve.

He's sucked this year. Do we need to say it after every time we say Wentz can be fixed? I swear it's like if you say it's the Oline, play calling, and receivers then that must mean that Wentz is absolved of everything. He's played like crap this season. He hasn't played like crap for his entire career though

Who’s saying that last line though? We all know he’s played well before. But that was before and we need a QB today and in the future. Can he be 2017 Carson again? Maybe.

That could all be true.

Do you know what else helps?  A QB making the right decisions, running when he needs to and throwing it away when there's nothing there.

I didn't say anything about the QB.  I told you why the OL sucked in previous weeks.   You wanted to know how it was the offensive line's fault.   That's how.  You don't play 3 shell monty (or 5 shell in this case) with the OL and flip guys from side to side... inside to outside... to placate a 38 year old narcissist.  But, they did.  And they only pulled him out of the game, because of injury.  And now he's on IR... finally because he has hurt the offense as much as anyone, and that includes Wentz.

I've not said that Wentz has played well.  And I hold to that.  In addition to that, I said that Wentz hasn't gotten much help, that's from teammates, that's from his coaches, that's from the GM.  Wentz needs to be better.  No doubt.  The coach does too.  The GM too.  The WRs too.  The position coach as well.  Its not 1 guy, and 1 win today doesn't prove that anyone who said its been Wentz alone all this time were correct.   It means everyone stepped up.   That often happens when a big change like a QB change happens.  Just like pulling the goalie in the NHL, or how a team wins a game after the HC gets fired and they win under the interim HC.

What is it with them releasing these DBs and they slam the locker room after? Sounds like another Scandrick situation.

If this is even true(personally I think you're selling fans short) it's not the worst problem to have. It's still all about Wentz to so many. The entire TEAM played better today BECAUSE the QB played better. WRs, no longer asked to run forever to poorly thrown balls looked better. Lineman, no longer asked to pass block 10sec EVERY play looked fresher. The defense, now able to rest a little between outings without all the 3-n-outs and turnovers looked fresher.

The team collapsed this year because they relied on Wentz to perform. Everyone will look better with Hurts at QB. Hurts is Doug's last hope to save his job.

So you don't think Doug changed things up to help Hurts out?

Yup

Roll outs are nice to keep a defense on their heels...and they are often utilized to compensate for a struggling OL.  But somewhat paradoxically, they also ask a lot of your OL when you do it consistently.  Unless your QB has the magic skills and arm strength of Mahomes/Rodgers (Hurts doesnt have that kind of arm), it's important that he isn't being pushed backwards by the rush when rolling out...he needs to be moving towards the LOS.  Otherwise you just get driven further into the backfield on those rollouts and the best you can hope for is a throwaway 10 yards out of bounds.

Also true.   They were better.    They struggled with blitzes, but did well against a 4 man rush.

There's been people in here saying that Wentz has always sucked

I’m not bashing you but who the f__k do we develop? On either side? We have to sign them as free agents.

That's an old, outdated fallacy.  This isn't 1990.  This is 2020.

Two of the top QB's in league (Mahomes and Wilson) are mobile QB's who started out their careers running the ball quite a bit. (And still do)   And both have Super Bowl rings.

Watching today's game, it's hard not to get excited about the OL moving forward. 3 starters were 23 or younger! Stoutland knows how to develop guys.

To unlock Wentz/Hurts, we need another play-making WR who can win "quickly". That's Smith/Chase for me.

I can't disagree with the optimism.  But, I see Herbig as a swing backup OG long term.  Good enough to get by with for a game or two or maybe three.  But, he's not an NFL starter.  Meanwhile, (and I mean no hyperbole with this) I see the future for Wyatt Davis as a future HoF OG.  I see him being a notch below Larry Allen... he's not as nimble as Allen, but he's as powerful an OG as you will come across, and has good movement skills, just not OT level like Allen had.

Draft slot bias is a real thing.

If a top 10 pick did what Hurts just did to the #1 defense in the league in his first career start, he'd be getting crowned by every armchair GM on Twitter.

Doug sure looked fine coaching a rookie 2nd year QB against the best defense in the league. Got any other BS excuses.

I disagree, I think a young, athletic QB covered his warts for a game.  Just like Carson did at the end of last season.

I didn’t think Wentz sucked till game two or three this year. I don’t think he is finished either. But Doug + Wentz sucks and I want no more of it.

Do you think that's true?

No.

i think Hurts ran what Doug called, Wentz likes to change the play call (per Dougs words in the PC a few weeks ago)

Does anyone think this team will be a contender in the next two seasons? Probably not. That being said, Miles Sanders will be worth more this offseason than he ever will be again. If I’m Howie, I’m looking to deal him. Realistically, I think they could get a day 2 and day 3 pick for him.

That’s my plan this offseason. Prepare to make a run at a QB in 2022.

Eeh...Mahomes runs behind the LOS to extend his passing windows.  He's a passing qb through and through.  Wilson evolved into a passing QB, although he did run too much when he was younger.

Mobile QB's...great.  Running QBs...no bueno.  And that's more true today than it was 10 years ago and even more true than 10 years before that.

Every couple years, franchises venture way down the wrong path with a Mike Vick, Cam Newton, RG3, Lamar Jackson, and Kyler Murray.  It works for a bit, and it'll go nowhere eventually.
