We clearly turtled up in the 2nd half by running too much. It worked. We were up 17 points and started with the ball.

The real test for Hurts is if we're down 10 and he has to throw the ball. That's when we'll know.

I still don't understand why New Orleans stayed in 2-high. To be fair to them, that's their base coverage. Against us, they should have been in single-high, Cover 1 Man or Cover 3. Arizona is a very multiple defense and has multiple players that can spy (Baker, Reddick, Simmons). They drafted all those players to combat Russell Wilson.

If Hurts plays well against Arizona, I think we really have something.

This is a good point.  ARI has the advantage of now having game film on Hurts and how Doug ran the O with him.  And they have the players who can contain Hurts running the ball.  One game is not an indication of anything, but after this game we'll have a better idea of what Hurts is and can be.  Eventually, some team is going to take away his ability to run and force him to throw.  Until that happens we won't have the full understanding of Hurts.

He also nearly threw a pick that could’ve been a pick 6. Like that was a Carson wentz throw that people get on Carson about. If the guy catches it there’s a high chance he’s gone for a TD if he stays in bounds.

Granted hurts is a rookie so you are going to see some rookie mistakes like that so i give him more leeway on that. I think he’ll learn from it.

Hurts was fine for his first NFL start. Wentz had 5 games his rookie year where he didn’t even surpass 200 yards passing.

Hilarious.  Reagor set a career high with 55 yards.  Jefferson has 1,000 receiving yards, has 5 100 yard games, and has 8 games with more yards than Reagor's career high yesterday.

Don’t forget Arcega-Sideline dressed as well! What production from our 2nd Rd 2nd Yr wideout 👍

I’m guessing he is brought back next year and given a full offseason of team activities assuming the pandemic doesn’t restrict it by then. See where he is at camp and likely cut depending on what they do at the position.

And here’s to 🍾 hoping others get to bake that decision.

I agree I also think that is by design right?  Hurst wasn't asked to do much in the pocket it was one maybe two reads and run.  As he matures will he be able to buy time in the pocket with his legs for plays down the field or was last night who he is?  I didn't watch much of him in college so I have no clue but in college he was probably the best athlete on the field so can't really gain to much from that.

It was most definitely by design.   But, that design is not sustainable.  So, if this is going to be Hurts' job moving forward, he needs a coaching staff that is going to DEVELOP him, not one that's going to ride his legs.  That's unsustainable.  It's been proven time and time again.   It's sustainable for success in college, because they get new QBs every 2 - 4 years, max.  The QB in those situations (as you say) is often the most gifted athlete on the field, so he can just 'out-athlete' most of the defenses he faces and you can build a great, successful and winning program over the long haul that way.  1 read, maybe 2 in the passing game, then use the athleticism to take a bad play call and turn it into a first down anyway.  Lather, rinse, repeat.   In the NFL, that catches up quickly to QBs.  1 - they are no longer the best athlete on the field.  Even the greatest athlete QBs have equally strong athletes on the field with them.  and the defensive lineman they are trying to avoid are also freakishly more athletic that nearly all of the DL they faced in college.  2 - they lose that athleticism fairly quickly.  A twisted ankle here, banged up knee there... and they just aren't the same when they are taking lots of hits.  Their bodies aren't used to that kind of punishment (compared to a RB) and even the RBs have very short lived careers overall.  So, the QB can't just outrun everyone like he did at 22-25 years old in the NFL.  3 - it can catch NFL defenses off-guard for a little while, but eventually they catch up to it.  We all saw what happened to the Ravens in the playoffs last two years.  Generally, better defenses, aka the ones you see in the playoffs, just aren't fooled by it.

It's crazy. People want Howie fired because his draft picks ALL suck; especially the Hurts pick that may actually SAVE our season. His WR picks can't catch the balls that Wentz throws, his lineman can't block long enough ...for Wentz to make a decision, even our D sucks...after the quick 3n-outs and turnovers. Doug also has to go because all his pass plays...that Wentz gets sacked or throws inaccurately, fail. No one wanted to blame Wentz. Instead the whole team was at fault. All these fans and journalists didn't seem to see that. I suppose it's some sort of materialist matrix they see him through, that because Carson was paid so much, he's ...unsinkable; and they just won't believe that his play adversely affected the team in such a critical way.

Hargrave is good. People thought he was bad 😅

Hargrave was still a bad signing for this team.  No matter how well he plays.

TIWIW from Mike Sando’s article from the athletic from another coach

Instead of striking a celebratory tone in his postgame Zoom session with reporters, Pederson seemed subdued, perhaps even weary from the drama of a difficult week, within a difficult season. He could have had Wentz’s fate and feelings in mind. Pederson also might know what is likely coming. He surely saw how the Eagles’ defense limited Saints quarterback Taysom Hill through the first half as Philly built a 17-0 lead. He might know Hurts could face that fate soon as a young quarterback with a run-reliant skillset.

"That game today was actually the Poulan Weed-Eater Bowl with two college quarterbacks playing,” a defensive coach said.

Hill did wind up completing 28 of 38 passes for 291 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Pederson, criticized for not having a specific package of plays for Hurts a couple weeks ago, tailored the game plan for him this time.

"From what I saw, it will be very easy to stop that kid,” an offensive coach said of Hurts. "The Saints just weren’t ready for some of the stuff they did and he had some good runs. He had a couple wild throws, too. The next defense they play will have a plan for it and it’ll be much harder for him.”

NFL always catches up to and stops running QB's.

Did he win?

No, because our defense was to busy putting rookie WR Chase Claypool in the hall of fame.

Schwartz's defense only did just enough and the team was lucky to win.  I mean the Saints missed a FG and Hill missed throws.

I don't think anyone thinks Hurts came in and played poorly.  I think people are fooling themselves if they think playing Hurts over Wentz fixes this team.  2 things can be true in that Wentz has played poorly and the offensive scheme/play calling/coaching and talent are sub par.  Changing over to Hurts and thinking that fixes this team ignores this bigger issue.  My hope is that whoever the QB is the coaching and talent is better around him.  I would be happy if Hurts comes in and plays better than Wentz.  I would be happy if Wentz came back and played better than he has played in the past.  I will be unhappy if the continues to ignore the bigger issues which are the GM and offensive coaching staff.

Accurate assessment of the defense, and with a true QB playing, not Hill, they likely lose.  Even if Hill played and they let him do what Daniel Jones did... and run on those Read options, they likely gash this defense.

As for the second paragraph... yesterday's game was a mirage.   Some folks think they found water... but it's just sand.   And people don't drink the sand because they are thirsty, they drink the sand because they don't know any better.

Are you folks in PA expected to get snow this week?  My aunt in Frederick MD said they were calling some serious accumulation on Wednesday.  Me?  I'll probably go to the golf course.

Yup.  Nor-easter coming through... looks like Wed afternoon to the overnight.

I’m kind of surprised at halftime Payton didn’t go to Jameis winston. While winston can be a turnover machine he’s a better passer than Hill. it wasn’t like Hill wasn’t turning the ball over either. Had a pick and a fumble.

Yup all we have to do is run the ball 30+ times and 250 yards a game and we will be good.  Who knew success on the ground was the key to success?  Who knew?

We won similarly to how the Saints have been winning with hill for 3 weeks. Saints rushing attack before the eagles game with hill starting had 166, 229 and 207 yards. So they were averaging 201 yards per game. Hill was averaging 181 yards passing.

It will be even worse, because they NEED to dump a ton of expensive players to get under the salary cap and its almost impossible, unless they use Wentz' contract to restructure to get under the cap.

Does Wentz need to agree to a restructure?
