And that is why I wasn't really happy with the win yesterday.  It just makes the likelihood of no real changes coming more likely.  This team has steady regressed since the Super Bowl.. and in dramatic fashion.   Poor roster construction.  Clearly no uniform direction from both the front office and coaching staff.  Poor cap management.  Poor use of players in proper roles.  Poor use of players in terms of playing time.  And maybe the single biggest concern is the systemic injury issue... whatever this team is doing as far as strength and conditioning to get their bodies ready for the rigors of an NFL season... they are not doing it right.   I know nothing about it, but I know this... one year with a rash of injuries is a fluke.  Two years is very unlucky.  But this is really 4 years in a row.  Something is very wrong, and these are the guys (Doug and Howie) who are in charge of it.  Howie in terms of the staffing, Doug in terms of practice intensity, etc.

actually i thought chip was save after beating the pats but he still got canned, so knowing lurie regardless of winning or losing, changes are coming because of the mess of the season.

Yup.   Of course, the 3 day deadline is meaningless.  If the Eagles are looking to trade Wentz, they will be negotiating with some team long before that window opens... and will work out whatever details needs to be done in time.   No team trades for a player like Wentz on a whim... and no team trades away a player like Wentz on a whim.  The negotiation on that likely starts around Super Bowl week... and then goes hush hush until they can legally announce things.

Of course. My main thinking point is how do you convince them to pay that bonus? Eagles lose leverage and it probably hurts the compensation. It’s going to come down to teams asking themselves should we just wait till day 4 so we don’t pay the bonus or does waiting kill the deal? And how bad do we want a reclamation project?

I would as well. The elephant in the room, to whom would he be throwing to? Who will all of the sudden become a separation machine?

The main issues surrounding this team are still here, albeit slightly masked by Hurts legs, and Doug actually running the ball.

No I don't believe the rollover is factored in.  Here you can see the total for 2021 showing them $65M over the cap.  Nowhere is the rollover of $23M in 2020 cap space accounted for.

https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/philadelphia-eagles/

So like I said, around $40M over the cap if we trade Wentz away.  You are correct that it would need to be within 3 days of the new league year to avoid an additional $10M cap hit to us.

Do the math on your link. Total Cap liabilities is  $264,864,761. Being that they are shown as $65,764,761 over that means their effective salary cap is $199,100,000. Every teams base salary cap is currently projected as $176,000,000. So where do you think that $23,100,000 is coming from? It’s the exact same number of cap space they have currently.

Adjusted or effective salary cap is always base + adjustments including rollover.

That first drive, some folks were beside themselves with how 'good' it looked.  It was like 15 plays for 45 yards or something

13 for 39

Here is a good explanation of the cap situation next year:

https://www.radio.com/94wip/sports/eagles/a-detailed-look-at-eagles-terrible-2021-salary-cap-situation

Most likely scenario is the cap comes in around $195M.  That means the team can get to within $13M of the cap just by doing the following:

1) Cut/trade Jeffrey

2) Cut/trade Jackson

3) Cut/trade Goodwin

4) Cut/trade Barnett

5) Cut/trade Ertz

Then you can restructure any of the following big deals to get the remaining space needed:

Fletcher Cox (29): $15 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Brandon Graham (33): $13 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Lane Johnson (31): $9.65 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Darius Slay (30): $12 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Javon Hargrave (28): $12.75 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Malik Jackson (31): $9 million guaranteed salary in 2021
Brandon Brooks (32): $10.4 million guaranteed salary in 2021

So no, we do NOT have to restructure Carson Wentz and handcuff the team to him for future years.

Well guys the good news is we just might make the playoffs after all

You're correct as of now.  However the cap will likely be adjusted to $195M or higher, not the currently projected $176M.  So factoring in their rollover their effective cap will likely be $219M leaving them $45M over the cap before making moves.

The only difference was doug went for it on fourth down and didn’t get it. Instead of kicking a field goal. If the Eagles kick that it is nearly the same drive they had against Green Bay but in this game. Against GB the first drive of the game was 15 plays 41 yards resulting in a FG took up 7 minutes. This drive was 13 for 39 and took up 8

Agreed, $176M is the doomsday scenario that all the sites are showing because of the uncertainty. I think at worst it will be flat from this year.

This would be the true test, and why I think he was drafted #53 overall, instead of closer to #1 like Mayfield and Murray were.  I don't see the arm strength to be able to complete downfield passes with any regularity in the NFL -- which will prevent him from becoming a really good #1 QB

Unfortunately, pointing out that fact to people gets interpreted as being a "Wentz lover-Hurts hater", instead of being happy with Hurts' performance as a good #2 QB

It's possibly the BEST DEFENSE in the NFL.  When you factor that in, the offensive "numbers" from yesterday look pretty good.

Nope they don't look good.

They look basically like they've looked all season, except the QB took off and ran after his first read wasn't there instead of trying to go through all the progressions and getting sacked.  To some folks that's as good as gold.

I'll start getting enthusiastic when I start seeing 65% or better from the pocket and more than 12 yards per completion.

Hurts ability to run can open things up down the field.  I always like a QB that has the ability to run.  Still have to be able to throw but just the defense knowing they have to account for that can open other things up.  Wentz used to have this ability but doesnt anymore.

Wentz "b########!!"

Aka Female Dog

I didn't need to hear from him to know that it was a different set of plays.  Many of them were the same.  Many others were not.  How many designed rollouts were called this game versus what we've seen in the past?   There were close to a dozen... with Wentz its closer to 1, maybe 2 per game.   How many end arounds and reverses have we seen with Reagor?  1 up to this week, and only last week against GB.   How many flanker screens went to Greg Ward?  0.  How many went to non-Greg Wards?  At least 2 by my count - 1 to Reagor, 1 to Sanders.   How many designed QB runs do they call with Wentz?  Pretty much only sneaks... and they work nearly all of the time.   How many designed runs were there for Hurts?  About a dozen... and he got stuffed on the only sneak.

It wasn't the same game plan.  Hurts did what he was asked to do.  He wasn't asked to do much, other than make a read, and then run.  He did it.  But, that's not to say that the offense looked 'good'.  That first drive, some folks were beside themselves with how 'good' it looked.  It was like 15 plays for 45 yards or something... and resulted in a punt after two penalties pushed them back.  We've seen that before.  Very much the same result... just a different number behind center.  This is still a poorly coached team, with a weak scheme and weak personnel.  Hurts' legs masked a bit of it.  But, it wasn't some turning of the corner for this offense.

I'm not going to get into this today.

If yesterday's performance doesn't show that it IS NOT a poorly coached team...or at least it wasn't last night, I don't know what to tell you.  They beat THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE WITH A ROOKIE QB IN HIS FIRST START.  HELLO.

I'll just sit back and watch the rest of the season as it unfolds...and my best guess the more we see of this offense, the more it will show that it's NOT A POORLY COACHED TEAM.

The part that nobody thinks about, yes, you can cut a bunch of players to get under the cap, but who is going to replace those players ??

Right now, you are 13 million over the cap with only 40 players on the roster.

Roster would be

QB - Wentz, Hurts

RB - Sanders, Huntley

WR - Reagor, JJAW, Hightower, Fulgham, Watkins

TE - Goedert

OL - Johnson, Brooks, Kelce, Seumalo, Dillard, Pryor, Mailata, Driscoll, Herbig, Opeta, Toth, Juriga

DE - Graham, Sweat, Avery

DT - Cox, Jackson, Hargrave

LB - Taylor, Edwards, Bradley

CB - Slay, Maddox, James, Jacquet

S - McLeod, Wallace, Epps

ST - Elliott, Lovato

How are you paying the rest of the players needed to fill out the 2021 roster ??

Then if you do a bunch of restructures, you are eating the 2022 cap number.  If Wentz is traded, it would be 81 million with 29 players under contract, did a strike though for players who are not under contract for 2022.  Then you are taking 13 million away from that future number just to get under the cap next year, plus you need money to fill the roster and sign draft picks in 2021 and 2022.  So you are more realistically looking at 56 million in 2022 just to cover the rookies and getting under this years cap.

Good thing they cut Will Parks.

JJAW dressed and didn't play 1 offensive snap.  No need for Hightower and his speed.  Maybe he has the same naked photos of DP that Fulgham has.

Will Parks has been going on some tirades on social media lately

Putting your response in all caps doesn't make this a well coached team.
