It should have been picked. It should have likely been a pick six or got it in at least field goal range if that defender could catch a football. It would’ve changed the entire game. Goes from 17-14 punting the ball to the Saints to 21-17 and at worse Saints have the ball deep in eagles territory with momentum and the defense down multiple secondary players. When you watch the replay of the game it was a really bad pass. Like we grill wentz for that type of pass. The only difference is hurts is a rookie and the defender dropped it.

But it wasn't picked.  Shoulda coulda woulda.

I'm not going to get into this today.

If yesterday's performance doesn't show that it IS NOT a poorly coached team...or at least it wasn't last night, I don't know what to tell you.  They beat THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE LEAGUE WITH A ROOKIE QB IN HIS FIRST START.  HELLO.

I'll just sit back and watch the rest of the season as it unfolds...and my best guess the more we see of this offense, the more it will show that it's NOT A POORLY COACHED TEAM.

Sure.  I'll watch it too... and watch the same crap as I've seen all season, just with a faster QB out there to run away from trouble faster.    12 designed QB runs is a good offense to you, eh?  Welcome to 1937 NFL.

Of all the dumb things posted on the internet today...

Why would a team restructure a deal in which they get a qb for $25 million and a chance to get out of the deal after a year?

So they can shove more guaranteed money at him?

His deal is great for whatever team trades for him. There is no way they would restructure it.

Yeah this.  Any team trading for Carson gets a great deal.  4 yrs $98M with only the 1st season salary and roster bonus guaranteed.  They'd be foolish to restructure it.

Exactly. However doesn’t take away from the fact you exclude it from you go back and watch. It’s why i said the eagles played good but they were also fortunate in some circumstances. That was one of them.

Powerful assumptions.

Its not like he transferred to another college when he lost his job or anything.

The fumble was the problem.  Eagles QBs and fumbling are like Phillies relievers and runs scored

I don't hold that against him.  People look for opportunities- I'm glad he found one.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.  So called Eagles fans have made a "Golden Calf" out of Carson Wentz.

It would be great if you could use the blog for discussion instead some sort of meaningless rant about what you think others think of Wentz.  I mean if this offense puts up 40 points on Arizona and Hurts has 400 yards passing against Arizona I will be happy to think about whether the team needs significant changes in the coaching staff.  I would love it if Hurts comes out and plays like Russell Wilson.  That's just not what I saw.  I have no idea whether Hurts is a better long term fit than Wentz.  The only thing I am certain of is that Wentz hasn't been the only person on the team doing poorly this season.  He wasn't the only problem last season or the season before.  He's definitely been a part of the problem but getting rid of him doesn't fix this team.

Everyone does this in college now, and I don't blame them at all. If Hurts didn't go to Oklahoma, he doesn't get drafted in the second round and costs himself a ton of money. Same with Kyler Murray transferring out of Texas A&M and going to Oklahoma. It was the smartest thing he could have done and went #1 overall because of it. They're looking out for their future. Sucking it up as a backup does nothing for these kids' future.

Honestly i didn’t like the fact they refuse to give sanders the ball late in games. Let your best running backs put the game away. They continue to go away from him at those times and i have no clue why except the only reason is they don’t trust him. But if that’s the case  Scott actually has the same amount of fumbles over the last two seasons oN less carries.

I saw him pat Hurts on the helmet after the t.d. pass

Always a good thing even in difficult times to keep it on that level. Wouldn't expect anything else from Wentz. A hard situation for anyone

Amazing that peters gets removed and the oline isn’t complete crap besides hurts getting rid of the ball and taking off. Meanwhile we somehow tried to get through games with peters at guard and pryor at RT. And pretending like the all 22 didn’t show them being completely useless

Yeah, but not all of them play at a high level and then get bench in the Natty....

Just a different deal all together.

What does that have anything to do with the merits of Hurts transferring to Oklahoma and it somehow making him mentally fragile? He came back in 2018 as a backup to Tua, served his role, and transferred afterwards.

I did do all the math I wanted, and clearly illustrated that all of the cutting and restructuring needed, and then trading Wentz leaves them with 29 current under contract players, 14 rookies, totallng 43 players on the roster and only 50 million in cap room for 2022.  Then what if Kelce retires, Graham retires ??

Like I said... 2021 will be rock bottom if they do what needs to be done.  It will be rough, because we'll see a lot of UDFAs and late round draft picks filling in holes... and I'd prefer those holes to be on defense.    But, with the right selections (draft picks, UDFAS, and coaches), they might start to gain some experience and develop into decent average players.   But, 2021 will be painful to watch. 2022 could be better with more cap flexibility, and some seasoned 2nd year players.   Another good draft crop and progress can start to be seen and the team might actually end up back near 0.500 at year's end.

BUT... that's with a restructure of Wentz to make other trades possible... then trading away just about anybody and everybody over age 30 as well as with any value... Trading away Cox, Graham, Slay, Hargrave, Ertz, look to find a buyer for Brooks... trade Malik Jackson for nothing but a conditional future pick to get him off the books as well.   And you can create almost an additional $100M or so of space, believe it or not.  They have some hefty contracts.

2022 cap figures: Cox $24M, Brooks $17.5M, Slay $19.5M, Hargrave $15.4M, Ertz $3.5M.  Empty years: Brandon Graham $12.8M, Malik Jackson $3.6M, Desean Jackson $1.9M, Alshon $5M.

That's $102.8M off the cap in 2022.  So, they'll have money to sign some folks, even as the cost for Wentz would go up in 2022 and be more expensive to trade that year if they so chose.  But, reworking his deal opens up the purge of bad contracts to follow, and even if they get NOTHING in return... it would create flexibility in the future.

Kelce's contract also expires after 2021... and that's $7.2M dead for 2022 as well.   Howie is going to haunt us for a while if we don't bite the bullet and bite it hard in 2021.   Kelce could really help us out by retiring after this season and dealing with it in 2021, instead of 2022.

I would think Colts, Pittsburgh, New England, SF, Vegas, and Denver would be the teams interested in at least a phone call.

Colts always made the most sense. It’s Midwestern town and the colts are a championship contender if they get an upgrade from rivers. Whether wentz is an upgrade/salvageable it makes sense if they believe he can be better than rivers at the end of his career

It's pretty difficult to have an honest discussion about Jalen Hurts when most of the blog has already decided he's not the guy, just a backup, not a good passer, just a runner etc. out of misplaced loyalty to Carson Wentz, and not wanting to admit they were wrong about Wentz being a franchise QB.

The kid played great yesterday circumstances considered (1st ever start, injury ravaged team, going against best D in the NFL), and all we hear in here is what he can't/won't do.

Have the Eagles beat a starting QB this season? I mean holding Taysom Hill to just under 300 yards passing doesn't seem like a big victory.

With a rookie, mobile QB in his 1st NFL start?  Yes, that actually is a decent game plan.  McNabb, Wilson and just about every other mobile QB who has had success in the NFL starts out with designed runs.  Welcome to the NFL since 1999.

Why would Wentz agree to a restructure?
