Have the Eagles beat a starting QB this season? I mean holding Taysom Hill to just under 300 yards passing doesn't seem like a big victory.

Have the Eagles lost to a team with their starting roster this season? Beating the current #1 seed and current best defense in football with a depleted roster is a big victory.

Yeah the QBs they have beaten on defense are dinucci, Mullens, hill and Daniel jones. They are also the only teams the defense has managed to get 2+ turnovers against.

meanwhile 5 beat QBs they have faced this year goff, Big Ben, Lamar, Wilson and rodgers scored 37, 37, 30, 23 and 30. Forced 1 turnover in those games. Granted in their defense some of those games bad turnovers by the offense like a sanders fumble vs. the rams or a interception by wentz.

Shall we discuss all Howie's misses that are elsewhere or how about the misses that are still on the team?   Howie's drafting has sucked - period.

Why would Wentz agree to a restructure?

IF he wants to go somewhere else ... It would be the only way for the Eagles to move him.

I think the will shy away from Eagles QBs is that a better statement?

I could see the Bears make a call also.

yeah ... I_P we usually end up on the same corner even when we take different paths to get there .. but I totally disagree with this.

From watching game, it wasn't clear how Wentz was interacting with Hurts between possessions. He was schooled on how to do it well by Foles and the expectation would be the same kind of support for Hurts. Did anyone catch this? Just curious about how he is handling the demotion.

He didn't need to be schooled by Foles on how to be a good teammate.  Where was he when he tore his ACL?  Right there on the sidelines pumping up his guy.  Same as he ever was.  And he was right there on the sidelines for Hurts after he was benched in GB.  This is nonsense.

current best defense in football

Where did this come from ??

Yards per game and passing yards per game, Rams #1.  Rushing yards per game, Bucs are #1.  PPG allowed, Saints are 5th.

I'm starting to think Wentz says FU m'fers. I'll take my money, rest my body, and get ready for my next gig.

I definitely agree that Jax will draft a QB and not try to rehab one.

Like I said... 2021 will be rock bottom if they do what needs to be done.  It will be rough, because we'll see a lot of UDFAs and late round draft picks filling in holes... and I'd prefer those holes to be on defense.    But, with the right selections (draft picks, UDFAS, and coaches), they might start to gain some experience and develop into decent average players.   But, 2021 will be painful to watch. 2022 could be better with more cap flexibility, and some seasoned 2nd year players.   Another good draft crop and progress can start to be seen and the team might actually end up back near 0.500 at year's end.

Given how yesterday played out, I would be surprised if we go full-rebuild in 2021.

Jacksonville will draft a QB they will not trade for another Eagles QB....

I would think Colts, Pittsburgh, New England, SF, Vegas, and Denver would be the teams interested in at least a phone call.

If any of them offer a first round pick for Hurts then it's a profit.

I thought heading into the game they were. They had given up 8.8 ppg over their last five games. Even without the Denver game it was 10. I thought they looked lost in the first half. They originally overcommitted to stopping sanders hence the 7 for 14 yards. Then overcommitted to hurts and sanders hit a homerun.  They played much better in the second half when they made the adjustments and looked like they had some urgency. Held the eagles to 104 yards, turned them over once (could’ve been twice) and eagles only scored 7 in the second half.

It's pretty difficult to have an honest discussion about Jalen Hurts when most of the blog has already decided he's not the guy, just a backup, not a good passer, just a runner etc. out of misplaced loyalty to Carson Wentz, and not wanting to admit they were wrong about Wentz being a franchise QB.

The kid played great yesterday circumstances considered (1st ever start, injury ravaged team, going against best D in the NFL), and all we hear in here is what he can't/won't do.

Its not loyalty, its several years of watching him play.   From 2017-2019 Wentz threw 81 TDs and 21 INT with a passer rating in the high 90s.  And his rookie year was a good rookie season coming from lower level of college play and no training camp. Yet all we hear from you is that he sucks.

It would be great if you could use the blog for discussion instead some sort of meaningless rant about what you think others think of Wentz.  I mean if this offense puts up 40 points on Arizona and Hurts has 400 yards passing against Arizona I will be happy to think about whether the team needs significant changes in the coaching staff.  I would love it if Hurts comes out and plays like Russell Wilson.  That's just not what I saw.  I have no idea whether Hurts is a better long term fit than Wentz.  The only thing I am certain of is that Wentz hasn't been the only person on the team doing poorly this season.  He wasn't the only problem last season or the season before.  He's definitely been a part of the problem but getting rid of him doesn't fix this team.

It will be interesting to see if he continues to run as much. Might be that's more about jumping into the role without a lot of prep. It is good that he has it as a threat but not a long term offense, as we all know. There is one play that stood out to me in terms of his comfort with the position. He rolled right, was being chased and then stopped right at the sideline, surveyed his options and then tossed it away -- around 8:25 of the second quarter. That and the other toss aways was a big change from the frenetic play we've seen at QB. Just an observation re calm under pressure. Also liked how he puts the ball on a player in the short passing game. Much better than Wentz or any Eagle's QB I can remember in recent history other than Garcia in terms of continuation of motion for the receiver.

I don't think anyone has decided anything on him.  He ran for over 100 yards and passed for under 200.  I don't care if it was a winning performance that is not a model for a successful offense in the NFL.  I don't think the performance necessarily says anything about his potential.  His ability to run helped him avoid pressure.  He made a very good throw to Alshon.  He made some other throws that showed promise.  His worse throw was the potential pick 6 and it gives me some concern about his arm strength.  He could be much better than Wentz.  He could be the next coming of Russell Wilson.  He could also be Tyrod Taylor.  Wentz may never play again for the Eagles.  Hurts may crap the bed and Wentz comes back and plays better.  None of that changes what needs to be changed to fix this team.

I think you are seriously underestimating Wentz character and competitiveness. Restructuring doesn't mean less money - it usually means more now - cap relief for the team. Win - Win.

Of all the dumb things posted on the internet today...

Why would a team restructure a deal in which they get a qb for $25 million and a chance to get out of the deal after a year?

So they can shove more guaranteed money at him?

His deal is great for whatever team trades for him. There is no way they would restructure it.

Well, you'd be the expert.

Because they might want to structure it for themselves in a way that's beneficial to them.  And who said that they'd give him MORE money?  If you read the rest, I specifically said he'd be taking less money just to get out of this mess of a team.   (under the assumption that Howie and Doug are retained.)  He'd likely take a decent low-ball offer on a 'prove-it' deal and bet on himself to get that money he lost back in a much better situation than he currently finds himself in.

But, you read a lot of assumptions into the suggestion than I included... so... 😕

Dillard could go on the Barry Bonds regimen and still not have a shot in hell of doing that.

He does. However they also lost to Daniel jones who scored 27 against them. Frankly I think Daniel Jones is a bottom 3rd of the league QB.  I actually think the Giants are a good play maker on the outside and a quarterback away from being a pretty good team. Their defense was not the issue yesterday. They ineptitude of their offense allow for the Cardinals to keep adding points.

38 minutes ago, Iggles_Phan said:

You don't.   Team trading for him would look to restructure his contract immediately upon acquiring him.   If Wentz wants out and a restart elsewhere, he'll take it. Remember... he's already gotten the signing bonus from the Eagles.  He's due $35M from the Eagles in new money from the Eagles.  But, he might take less (and significantly less) to get out of here if he's unhappy with Doug and Co. and they are back.  Why would he want to stay?     But, from the Eagles' side... they are stuck either way.

The negotiation tactic from the Eagles side is, we'd be willing to move him for "X + Y" if you take the trade before this bonus hits... but if the bonus hits... We are going to need "X + Y + Z".  So, the price goes up if the Eagles have more sunk costs in Wentz.   Who knows what his value is right now though?

But, I don't see a trade as viable, as the Eagles would still need to be under the cap.  I just don't see a way to make that happen without a Wentz restructure of some kind.

The more I think about it the more I agree that Colts would be the best place for him if Eagles do end up wanting to trade him. Meanwhile we'll be a QB factory that wants to keep old vets and let Howie ruin this franchise
