Jim Schwartz is pretty damn good when the offense isn't coughing up turnovers and short fields left and right.  We can and likely will do far worse than him.  Unfortunately it seems he'll be the scapegoat for this season since someone has to take the fall and his contract is up.

If Schwartz is the only one that goes, then that would be a mistake.

I liked that kid coming out. He was a guy I’d always take in mock drafts in the late rounds. From what i remember doesn’t have great athleticism and needs to add strength but super smart and likely was going to be a center at the nfl level but could play guard as he did at bama.

I have no idea who he is but i'm going to pencil him in as "better than Jamon Brown"

Yeah, but how much swag is he gonna bring to the position???

‘97 Eagle Bengal game.

Week 13: Eagles win 44-42

Bobby Hoying 26-42 for 313 yards 4 tds 1 int

Boomer Esiason 27-47 for 378 yards 4 tds 1 int

Remember thinking this kid can throw it, we got something here. Man, that didn’t last long.

I was at that game.

Who would of thought that meant adjusting your gloves mid play.

I think the problem with Schwartz is that the team rarely is able to stop top QBs.  Now part of the problem has been the ineptitude of the offense.  I just can't remember the last time they made a top QB look bad.  I mean maybe it was last season in the game against Dak.  I just don't remember other times in the last 3 seasons.

This is not an attempt by me to suggest Schwartz is elite or some mastermind. It’s continued pushback against nonsensical hatred or flat out unfair criticism of him as a DC. You’d think he was one of the worst DCs in the league by how many in here talk about him.

Mailata is abusive

And the Eagles will give us every excuse in the book next year as to why Dillard deserves to start while Mailata learns more from the sidelines.

There would be no Super Bowl title if Jim Schwartz' defense didn't do what they did against the Falcons.

Mailata is only 23, if Dillard can get it together, we have our bookends for the next decade.

Can't believe I'm more concerned about our first round pick over a 7th round rugby player who didn't even understand the game of Football 3 years ago.

Nah, if anything they may begin to train Mailata on the right side as well.  Really depends on what will happen with Lane Johnson. But either way, Mailata has earned a starting role, imo.

He passes the test of not fixing your gloves in the middle of a play.

I'm not pushing Lane out the door, especially not to accommodate Dillard's entitlement. Dillard either wins the LT job on his own merit, or he nuts up and adds versatility to his game. This team owes him nothing.

Lane is only 30 years old playing a position where most guys can still be significant contributors into their mid 30s. He’s not a WR or RB. I don’t know why some people are so adamant on moving on from him.

I think the biggest question mark with Lane is his ability to stay healthy going forward, his injuries have really started to pile up.

Only other reason I can think as to why someone would want to move on from Lane for the Dillard/Mailata combo would be that they might be cheaper.

He's having trouble staying healthy. Though it's pointless because I don't think we can move on from him even if we wanted to

Going to be interesting to see if Hurts can throw downfield over these next three games.  We sure didn't get an answer yesterday.  The quick decisions and the obvious rushing capability was very nice to watch plus he's got real swagger and confidence so there is certainly a set of positives to build on.  However, in the end of the day, you've got to be able to throw the ball downfield as well to have consistent success.  Doesn't have to be 40 yards but you have to be able to hit the 15 to 25 yard passes to have long term success.  At this point we have no idea of whether Hurts can do that in the NFL or not.

Dillard getting it together is a huge "if". Mailata looks like he could be a star in the making. If that's the case, trade Dillard for whatever you can get.

Which is reason #2,349 that they need a new front office and coaching staff.  Fresh eyes and no bias based on previous draft status, previous expected outcomes, or contract status.  To really move forward, this team needs to move on from the recent amount of group think that's developed in the building and get a fresh perspective and those new eyes need to take a hard look at where the money is going versus where the production is.

Did he do it with Mahomes?   Nope.   You are whistling in the wind trying to justify the unsustainable game plan we saw from Doug... and you bring in McNabb, and try to make it fit your narrative.  Then, when its pointed out that it doesn't fit even remotely, you turn and argue something different.

Reid is a great coach and truly a QB whisperer.  But, he's never had a QB come into a game with the idea that he'd be running the ball a dozen times.  If he felt the QB needed to do that to be viable... he'd play a different QB until that QB could handle actually playing QB... i.e. he'd run with Doug Pederson over Donovan McNabb until McNabb had shown in practice that he could be a QB, not a RB who could throw.  Same way that he had Mahomes riding the pine until he was sure that Mahomes was ready to play QB and not be a glorified RB back there.

We can end this here.  No need in continuing.

Apples and Oranges.  Did the Chiefs and Alex Smith have the same struggles this offense had during Mahomes' rookie year?

And Mahomes and Hurts aren't/weren't the same quarterbacks coming out of college.  Mahomes was already known for having a rocket arm/passing ability and he was never really a scrambling QB in college.

Mahomes had 286 yards rushing his last year in college vs 1298 rushing yards for Hurts in his senior year.  IF Reid had a QB who rushed for 1298 yards his senior year, you don't think he would use that to his advantage if he needed to?  Come on, be serious.

Two completely different situations.  Nothing remotely in common, tbh.

And I agree, we can move on from this conversation.

Just putting myself in Wentz's shoes, I'd want to get out of a contract that would allow a team to cut me loose after just 1 year. I'd be looking for a team to make a long term commitment to me in the form of extending the same or more guaranteed money into later years.

But if I were a team looking at Wentz I'd want to make sure that 2020 was an anomaly. I would also look into neurological evaluation, something seems off there. An NFL quarterback that takes too long processing defenses and deciding where to go with the ball isn't worth a lot.

I'm not.  I was just using that as an example of what could happen in the future.  But I'm a Lane Johnson guy all-the-way.  I hope he retires an Eagle, tbh.

That's the smart thing to do and what I hope happens.  I just have no faith that they would actually think that way.

I fully expect somehow some way Jason peters will be on this team next year. Like kelce retires and he says he’ll play center.

Hurts was throwing bombs left and right during  his senior year in college. His passing ability is drastically underrated among many around here.  He dropped two beautiful, long dimes to Reagor and the TD to Ward against Green Bay.  Both those passes were placed exactly where they needed to be.
