I'm worried this little spark during this crap season has saved Howie

Ditto. I’m not against Hurts because I think it helps Wentz. I don’t want this helping Howie in any way.

You clearly are incapable of having a dialogue, since you didnt read in the exact same post that discussed the COACHING issue of not using personnel properly, that Wentz hasnt played well and conceded the point.  But all you saw was a swipe at Greg Ward (for the discerning reader, they recognize that the discussion in that post was about the coaches mismanaging the roster and misusing players).  Greg Ward is a problem on this team, whether you want to admit it or not.  Not the biggest, but is emblematic of the greater problems of roster mismanagement and roster usage.  Greg Ward is not a guy who should be getting the number of snaps he is, nor featured on those types of plays, but is because a) theres no one better on the team to get those snaps, and b) because the coaches trust him more than the more dynamic players.   Greg Ward being the primary punt returner remains a sad illustration, once again, on this team's poor roster construction and failure to put their best players in a position to make plays.  Reagor is barely a part of the offense, but somehow hes too valuable to use on punts?  Please.

(Btw, this isn't a slight on Greg Ward, he is doing the best he can.  Its not his fault the coaches continue to misuse him and overuse him.  But it is Howie and Doug's fault.)

This is correct so why bother?

So how are the hurtin for Hurts crew this morning? Don't bother answering since I have all of you on ignore?

Seems funny to me that every post that names a problem with the team this year has to include the disclaimer "Wentz isn't playing well" or the hurtin for Hurts crew has to cry about "Wentz washers".

So I will try to clear it all up for you since most of you evidently have a first grade education and no more. WE ALL KNOW WENTZ WASN'T PLAYING WELL.

you sir, clearly have more patience than i can muster up. I find it easier to just not bang thy head into a block wall repeatedly.

he and many like him are entitled to their opinions of course, but i treat them like CNN , im not forced to participate in alternative realities.

What a catch by peoples-jones. I liked him more than most coming out of the draft.

Yep, he was a stud recruit who just got ruined with the mess Michigan's offense is.

Easily done around here

I dont even know what to say to this. The play call was atrcious. The offensive wasnt moving the ball. 13 plays for 43 yards. WR's had 6 catches for 50 yards an entire game?

If you think relying on scrambling is a game plan. If you think the results of scrambling are sustainable and you think this is going to happen week in and week our, you're a moron

The Baltimore Ravens say Hi.

The Eagles got 400 yards of offense against the best defense in the league.  Tell me again how it was a bad game plan.

So does Maddox just go to FS if he’s ready to go?

This is funny.  I thought the goal was to make the playoffs and win a game or two, or even three.  Baltimore Ravens - as was pointed out yesterday - currently play a style that is unsustainable.  Last year, top offense in the league (Regular season). This year, 2nd in rushing - dead last in passing.  Middle of the road in scoring.  Outside the playoffs looking in as of right now, and were 1 and done the last two years in the playoffs.  And, the biggest problem in the playoffs was their offense was completely stagnant.  17 points and 12 points, both times as the home team.  And last year, the 12 points came as the #1 seed in the AFC, coming off the bye.

So, if the Ravens are the standard to measure things, that's a pretty sad.   Sure, you can rack up some wins in the regular season.  But, in the playoffs... that's a different story.   And I'll add, Lamar Jackson's career longevity will be a short one (at least as a starting QB), unless he learns how to pass consistently from the pocket.  There's a very good reason you don't see many 30 year old QBs who primarily use their legs as a weapon that they need to rely on for success.

Because the GAME PLAN didnt get them 400 yards of offensive. Unsure what you dont get.

Let me ask you this. If you go to work and make 100 dollars, and then on your way home you find another 100 bucks.

did you

1) make 100 and then find 100

or

2) Made 100 and found 100.

Legit question

Part of having a mobile QB means that you will gain yards from him scrambling, especially when the game plan calls for it through designed runs, etc.  Since there were ample designed runs, the additional yardage they received through him scrambling was like a "bonus".

So it's not like you say, "found" it's like a "bonus" for performing well at work.

And Pederson won the Super Bowl through pocket passing.  Obviously, he will gradually go that direction with Hurts as well but that takes time.  And to have a "dual threat" QB in 2020 is commodity.

Sand foundation.

We have no CBs. He's gotta stay there.

I'm guessing it's K'Von Wallace as the FS with Mills as the SS. Wallace was projected to be a nickle safety given his best strength is quickness. Asking him to be a post safety could be rough.

Teams using play-action deep shots are going to give us trouble. Down the stretch, that's Kirk, Gallup and McLaurin.

Does hurts look tiny out there? He looks smaller than what is listed.

It doesn't help seeing him next to Mailata.  But, he's not nearly as big as Wentz either.  Only about 6'1" and 225 or so.   Wentz is every bit of 6'5" and 240+.

I haven't followed the Ravens that closely so I don't know if they were affected by injuries, etc   One thing I do know is that regardless, they have been a much more exciting team to watch over the past two years than the Eagles have (other than maybe the 4 game stretch the Eagles had to end the season last year).

And no, I don't see a coach who won the Super Bowl with a pocket passer completely abandoning that logic.

Like you and I have discussed, I think Pederson (if Hurts is the future, we don't even know that yet) would go in the direction of Andy Reid.  Use his mobility to extend plays etc but to coach him into becoming a good pocket passer as well. But that doesn't happen overnight so between now and then, I'm fine with Hurts running when he needs to.

You have a real hard time learning the difference between a scrambling and designed runs.

I agree, the added bonus of having a mobile QB is his opportunities to run.

The issue you're missing, is the MAJORITY of yards gained, both through the air and with his legs were scrambles.

I rewatched the highlights, essentially any play over 10 yards and Id say 85% of those plays were done because scrambling. Thats an issue.

Thats piss poor play calling, thats WR's not getting open. Thats LUCK

It was 1 game.  It was Hurts' 1st NFL start against the best defense in the league.  N.O. wasn't expecting Hurts to run as much as he did because the Eagles haven't had a game plan like that ever against them, from what I recall.  And it worked.

Was just about to say this, it is short lived success. Teams that Consistently win, year after year, win from the pocket. Yes it's always nice to have a the athletic ability at the QB position on top of the usual QB prerequisite Skillset, it can help your offense be dynamic, but it is unsustainable if it is your main skillset. Whether teams figure out how to defend you, or the QB breaks health breaks down. It's a short lived strategy.

Now some will point to Wilson and Mahommes or Rodgers,  But they clearly can/do play from the pocket, and use their legs as just another dimension.

If we break them down into 2 groups.

one is a running qb, a guy who has always relied on his legs, athletic ability to make plays, usually this guys highlights are him using his legs.

The other is a QB who can run: This guy can play from the pocket, but has the ability to escape and move around make a play or two with his legs, Normally his highlights are of him throwing the ball, from either the pocket or escaping the pocket.

All of them at least made it to a conference championship. The notion that if you don’t win a Super Bowl as a starting QB means you’re a nobody is real drawn out and beyond overrated.

Do we have any safeties? I guess it doesn’t matter. It’s going to be a mess without McLeod

All year we heard this team has no talent, this team has no o line, Doug sucks at play calling and needs help.... then Doug takes a rookie in his first start and beats the number 1 defense. Still crazy

In fairness, the Saints were horrible and what’s his nuts gimmicky QB is certainly not a starter
