That’s because we are behind all game because Carson is misfiring.  When you’re behind you have to pass more to try to catch up.

There's no reason to abandon the run in a one possession game, especially early in the game.

Giants - 1 possession game going into the 4th quarter and even until 3 minutes left in the game.  (23 rushes to 40 passes)
Cleveland - 1 possession game until 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter - 10-19 at that point. (25 rushes @4.2 ypc to 40 passes  - 3 rushes were Wentz, so likely 22 to 43)
Seattle - 1 possession game at halftime, 1 possession game heading into 4th quarter.  (14 rushes @ 5ypc to 52 passes)

Of those 4, only the Packers game was any kind of blowout where the abandoning the run makes sense.

I don't see that happening.

So Doug Sabotage Wentz and put himself on the hot seat cause he wanted Hurts. Yeah 👌

I don't think Doug sabotages Wentz.  I think there's an unclear dynamic that we have seen repeated over the last 2 seasons were Doug does not change his offense until late in the season.  There were the rumors about Wentz not wanting to run the "Foles" plays in 2018.  I think there's sometimes issues when Wentz audibles at the LOS. That is an issue where it's hard to know what influence Wentz is having.  Ultimately last season, it seemed McCown was able to get in Wentz's ear about running the offense.  The consistent problem, however, was the lack of skill receivers.  I think Wentz needs someone that knows his strengths better than he knows them.  I don't think he has that coach on the team.  So Pederson doesn't tailor things for Wentz as much as he should because he's too dependent on Wentz's input.

That is freaking eerie

I don't know why I've always remembered that quote before the game, but it always stuck with me.  It just doesn't strike me as something a head coach of an NFL football team would or should say.

I do not mind if you’re going to go for it and you’re gonna be more of a risk taker. That’s your MO and calling card. But when it doesn’t work expect blow back. That doesn’t bother me as much.

It bothers me more when I hear the press conference that two point conversion‘s are failing because we don’t have any more two point conversion plays because we use them all up. Isn’t it your job to come up with more plays for that situation that you think will work or  if you are planning to go for two points more often than other teams that you have even more plays at your disposal so that does not happen?  That’s on coaching. When I heard that that is a ridiculous statement.  Like you know you go for two point conversions more than most so you should have a more plays set up for when that happens, not go well we ran out of plays

Well they have drafted poorly, done a poor job adding FA offensive talent and not helped him with the scheme.  His play has suffered.  He has been beat up this season by sacks.  Is that a betrayal? I don't know but if Wentz was their kid, CPS should be making a visit to their house.

I think he was trying to make a joke.

Is Wentz a mental midget

Former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky said he is hearing there is "built up animosity" between Wentz and the Eagles and the only person he trusts in the NFL is Colts head coach Frank Reich

This is another way Wentz hasn't gotten sufficient support.  Look at the coaching staff since Reich left.  This offense would make Billy Davis look like Bud Carson.

Doug is totally reckless with some of his 4th down ‘go for its’. It’s like he thinks we have the ‘85 Bears Defense.

Bingo

"What have you done lately" comes with the tens of millions of dollars of salary. That is the way the world works whether you are a CEO, player, entertainer, coach, manager and on and on. The desired response on his part would be introspective and self-aware, "what am I doing to contribute to this situation?" Getting defensive or being thin skinned are not qualities that, generally, help people succeed in challenging situations like this. People who are simply great and don't have to contend with challenges like these are fine being defensive and thin skinned. TO is not a self aware person but he didn't have issues to correct in terms of his performance on the field. It's not an absolute but Wentz really working to understand his role in the situation (I need to work on my throwing mechanics, I need to get rid of the ball more quickly, etc) is a much more productive way forward than getting frustrated with the team or trying to work on the same things that are currently inhibiting his success. Getting frustrated means he is confused about why things are happening. How can you fix a situation when you are confused about why it is happening?

I'm agnostic about players. For me it is all about the team and what is best for the team. I don't see it as a betrayal of Wentz to be real about his play. Is his solely responsible? No way. Is is primarily responsible? Yes, IMO.

To me betrayal insinuates they drafted poorly on purpose.

The FO is just crappy judges of talent

I don't see that happening.

Drafting a back up QB in the second round when the team had so many other needs, and then it was widely reported Jeremy Chinn was the highest player on their board when they went on the clock.

Seems like it would be really easy to hire Josh McCown as an intern QB coach and let him work with Carson every day.   Overpay Josh and make him an offer he can't refuse.  But, they need to get Press Taylor as far away from him as possible.  Same for Marty Morhinweg and seemingly Doug Pederson.

I'm in with bringing in Buffalo's OC as the new HC, with McCown as the QB whisperer to calm Wentz down.  And then maybe bring in a guy like Pat Shurmur as the QB coach (to help McOwn learn the ropes as a true QB coach)... and/or Orlovsky.

I mean you're right to some extent but if you manager tells you he's only going to get talent around you that will help you and he fails, you might feel betrayed by the sheer incompetence.

If you watch the clip, I don't know who the guy wearing the Steelers Xmas sweater is, but when Orlovsky mentioned Pittsburgh as a possible destination, dude pumped his fist.  A ton of people outside of Philly have not given up on him, and someone is going to take the chance, and the Eagles are going to look extremely idiotic on the other side.

Not to go all cult of Foles, but what would be the reaction if he goes somewhere else and wins a Super Bowl ??

Where are you getting that from?

I clearly said "I don’t think Doug sabotaged play calling on purpose”.

But you agree he had better play calling and put the right players in position with Hurts in. So which is it? Did he sabotage Wentz or grow brains over night with Hurts and figure it out?

Back up QB was not a 2nd round need, safety and LB are.  Not a talent evaluation problem, an understanding what your team needs problem.

Why would you run flanker screen to Greg Ward for 12 weeks, then run it with Reagor in week 13 ??

This is good news.  He obviously doesn’t want to be in Philly, and the feeling is mutual.  Time to trade him and move on.

No the team is not going to look "idiotic” because Wentz will be the same mediocre player elsewhere that he is here.  He doesn’t have what it takes between the ears to be a stud QB.

I'd be extremely pissed.  This isn't anything like the Andy Reid situation.  Andy was responsible for this team's troubles for the second half of his tenure.  He was the guy with all the power... and he lost control here.  He got his head right in KC, focused on coaching and the rest is history now.

Wentz is more a victim of his circumstances than Reid.  Sure, Wentz likely could have done things differently, etc.  But, he's not the one putting the roster together around him, having to work with Robert Davis, Deontay Burnett, and Greg Ward last year... only to move on to a 6th round reject in Travis Fulgham this year, with Greg Ward and a rookie that doesn't always seem to know what he's doing out there... or giving it 100% on every snap.  Nor, making the moves on the OL to say, "yeah, play the 38 year old that can't move anymore."

Based on Carson’s performance this year, backup QB was actually a massive need in the 2nd round.
