I love when billionaire owners of NFL teams enlighten the little people on social issues.

They’re essentially politicians. If you were a billionaire owner you’d feel forced to do the same. Especially since most of your team cares about said issues.

Thursday Night games are terrible... and now there's rumors of extending the week into Tuesday?   Yeah, that's going to be a disaster and might finally be the case of the greed causing them to actually consume themselves.

People will watch. They’ll get higher ratings than most other sports’ playoff games. They definitely will not "consume themselves”

Some of you on this board are off your meds this morning

One thing about Agholor (Dropsgalore) He is better at getting open vs anyone we have on the roster right now.

He also has the worst hands/concentration of any WR we have on the roster right now.

Such a shame we cant seem to get wr's who can get open & catch the ball? Most times we cant even get just one of those traits.

Remembering that one time Buddy Ryan drafted Fred Barnett and Calvin Williams in the same draft, and they came in and started right away, and both had decent careers. Williams actually became a pretty good all around WR.

NFL has already peaked in popularity, they are going to continue to grasp at straws like that to try to keep it up

To be fair, I am a centrist (which means I seem like a far right wing compared to most far leftists) 56 year old guy who lives in the country, most current TV programming (99.7%) is not aimed at me, it is aimed at under 40 progressive/liberal urbanites.

So NFL is about all I have left that I watch on network Television. And they tried/try really hard to push guys like me away.

There is a market there, but they are killing it.

If Thursday football ratings continue to sink why would one think the solution is adding Tuesday night football.

It's over saturation.

The anticipation of waiting for football all week created more of a demand, no day football was a bonus, if one has football every other day it loses its appeal due to it being a common occurrence.

I’m closer to your train of thought than the average person my age. Not disagreeing with you. I rarely watch any game if it’s not the Eagles. I just don’t care anymore. Sports are getting more and more boring as I get older.

However, people will still watch the NFL any night of the week. I think the Steelers/Ravens Tuesday night game had higher ratings than most nba finals games.

You’re also seeing Sports betting take off. That’ll be a big factor in expanding the days of the week football is played.

If there's one thing the NFL is good at it's ruining a good thing and giving you too much.  Perfect example is the draft.  I used to LOVE draft weekend.  Now it's a drawn out, primetime event geared more to boost their ratings and make money than it is to have a good NFL draft.

Yup I used to love the draft as well, Saturday Sunday done. Now they drag it out and it's way over produced crap fest👎

Agree on over saturation of the NFL product.  There is a thin line between giving the people what they want and them getting bored with too much of it and moving onto something else.  I don't think the overt social justice focus has helped as it has alienated some fans - without fans, you don't get bums on seats or the tv ratings to pay for life style.

Speaking of which, I wonder what convoluted scheme/metrics that Lurie comes up to retain Roseman this offseason - I'd guess there is a secret project being run to show Howie did x, y or z and this is best in NFL metric.  There is nothing more career limiting than being managed by a Manager's favourite.  It can be soul destroying for morale too

I'm 39.  To me, the height of the NFL was the late 90s/early 2000s.  The invention of the first down line was enough technology to make me happy.  Fullbacks were still relevant.  I still remember being so excited about Kevin Turner and how he was going to get utilized in the WCO.  I had my Eagles Digest subscription and Spadaro gave actual Eagles news rather than being a cheerleader for the team (good for him though, how many of us would kill for his career).  You knew you had a big game when Madden/Summerall were calling it and NFL Primetime was must watch TV after my homework was done.  The Madden video game was still pixilated (I actually prefer that to the ultra real versions they have now).

I used to have all the Lindy's, Sporting News and every other draft guide and season preview magazines.  There was still a huge appreciation and connection to the era's that came before.  I dunno, I just miss being a fan of that NFL.  Today's NFL isn't that at all anyomre.

Oh and training camp was at Lehigh.

Childhood memory rant over.

First rule of business.

Keep your customers wanting more.

They're overselling their product.

I hear ya, The 90's was the height.  I would watch the NFL all day Sunday, then NFL PRIMTIME with Berman and Tom Jackson.  Even though the Birds were not great for most of the 90's it was a fun time to be an NFL fan.

Has adding a game on Thursday night lessened the anticipation of Sunday? No. Will throwing in a Tuesday game? No.

The days of watching games just because you like the sport are over. My roommate watched that game last night because he had $100 on the Chargers and Darren Waller on two of his fantasy teams. That’s the direction the league is going in.

Same, I am the younger gen who has a limited interest in sports. I am diehard about the birds, sixers, phillies (which i prefer on radio), and flyers... Beyond that, sports just dont interest me like they used to. I will have a college game on in the background while I am doing some work from home, but other than that I rarely watch anything beyond the eagles (and I am not even in the coverage area for philly sports).

You are right about sports betting, it is one major way sports are keeping people engaged.

Thursday football ratings stink? LOL... like literally laughed when i read this.

Could be the dumbest thing Ive read in awhile actually

Sunday night football, MNF and Thursday night football were all top 4 watched series last year(SNf 2, TNF 3, MNF 4, so Thursday got better ratings than money.

Of the top 100 shows watched last year all 18 games(thanksgiving) were in the top 85 lol.

I'd bet he doesn't get further than "we all knew an overhaul was coming." OR "injuries derailed our season."   No odd metrics needed to find reasons.

And fantasy football. I would say in this day and age there’s more people overly concerned about their fantasy teams than their actual team.

Rather than focusing so much on the oversaturation of the product, the thing that bothers most fans that I personally know (mostly 35 to 60) is the whole "social justice" issue and dragging it into sports.  I don't know ONE, who cares what these athletes think or support.  They are spaced throughout the country and have varied political affiliations and feelings.  They just want the players to do their job and create entertainment value and let the viewer choose to support what they want.

They don't want to hear it from the leagues or actors either....or politicians.

It was clear when Kaep started this stuff in his Castro shirt and "pig" socks, that it wasn't going to turn out well and it is probably a big part of what is happening with viewership and engagement.

Truth. And I get it to some extent... I like players too, I have those guys who I root for in college and the pros even though they are not on my team. But i an not about to waste a few hours of my life to watch a player 😆.

Team loyalty is eroding and the thing that really bamboozles me is when people question why you wear eagles gear after they lose a game or they are having a bad year. They look at you as if you are crazy. Whatever happened to riding the highs and lows with a team?

Jets - QB

Jags - QB

Bengals - BPA

Dallas - possibly a QB but probably best D player

Carolina - maybe QB

Atlanta - maybe QB

Eagles at that spot would probably have their pick of best WR in the draft

You think there’s a possibility that 5 of the first 6 picks in the draft will be a QB? There’s almost no chance that happens.

Let's say we draft in the 12-18 range.  Gone are Parsons, Surtain, Chase, Rousseau, Surtain, Farley. Sewell,  the 2 QB's, and Chase.

Who do you pick?

Sure. There’s always a possibility. Especially in a QB driven league.
