So you have a $130 million QB that is struggling from a combination of loss of the lead running back, 3/5s of the OL missing, time lost for the starting TEs and integrating with rookie WRs.  You have a rookie one look and run QB that needs some playing time due to lack of PS games.  Sitting the high value starter may just be a smart move.  Next year, a year of experience under their belts, the WR are ready for the NFL, the injuries to the OL gives back ups some experience and the next year the starting OL plus back ups is one of the best in the NFL and the starting TE is an all around player (Goedert).  Boom.

You're right. Calvin Johnson sucked in college and busted as a pro.

Are you eluding to Megatron not being highly productive in college despite that system?  You might wanna look up his stats if so.

Happy Saturday everyone. With any luck when this day is over I'll have 10lbs of moose trail bologna. Moose is the gift that keeps giving.

I hate you.

But only because you're too far away for me to come get some

Firstly thanks for the kind words to my post last night. And because of that I’ve not been as clued in on what’s been happening in eagles world, but maybe it was me but I felt positive about the team after the game. Yes, they left it closer then you’d like but Jalen hurts seemed to bring the spark that had been so lacking for the season so far. I know it’s the cardinals tomorrow but momentum and confidence can do strange things in sport.

The only thing it can do is save people’s jobs that shouldn’t be saved.  I’m usually always the one that says "root for a win no matter what”.  But this season has been awful.  No fans.  No joy.  No future for the team.  If they win out they simply maintain the status quo.  You gotta take a few steps back in order to get a running start in life.  This is no different.  I don’t care what they do with the QB at this point.  I think Wentz is done here and that’s a shame.  But what I don’t want is the same old cast of characters.  Schwartz, Doug, Howie all need to go.  Bring me a DC that likes linebackers and tough man corners.  Bring me an OC that appreciates the balanced attack and actually utilizes your better players.  Bring me a HC that holds everyone accountable.  Even the entitled old LT and slow WR.  And bring me a GM who knows what in the hell he is doing with the draft.  If those things happen, that’s the momentum that matters to me.  Not winning a few games to finish 7-8-1 and all is good.  What I want is what real Eagles fans should hope for.  Tough love for the long haul.

As much as I criticize Schwartz I dont think it's his plan to have crappy LBs.  Everywhere he's been before the Eagles he's had good or very good ones.  Even his first 2 years he had Bradham, Kendricks and Hicks.

I don't get why he praises Nate Gerry. That to me is mindboggling.  Maybe he's forced to play Gerry when deep down he knows there are better options.  I think its more on Howie that they have crap LBs.

Redskins and Giants both lose. Eagles control their destiny again and can theoretically win a Lombardi by winning their following six games.

A man can still dream.

Maybe this offseason we can bring in 5 consultants to help get players for our 5 OC’s

Sanity prevails with Slay.

Too many voices in the building and not enough clearly defined hierarchy.  I'd probably be happy enough if he took over as Eagles GM next season, and Howie voluntarily steps away into an admin job -- but I'm doubtful that's realistic.

Dorsey was a guy I had interest in replacing Roseman. Make it happen.

If Kyler Murray wasn't so overrated I'd say this has all the makings of a 350+ yard passing game for him against a decimated Eagles secondary.  Still might happen.

Dorsey as GM is awful. Dorsey as a #2 or #3 in an organization is a great add. He comes from the Packers tree, while the rest of the staff has primarily learned under the Ravens tree. As long as Dorsey/Weidl can find alignment, we're in good shape.

Weird they didn't have a corresponding move, but knowing Howie we don't need two roster spots.

Also the comments on that tweet are something else. People saying Maddox was playing really well and its a big blow to the team. lol

That's the problem.  They knew they were both out on Monday.  Why wait until the Friday before the Sunday game to do this?  IR them ASAP, poach 2 PS guys from other teams and get a 3 game trial on 2 players.  An extra week of practice can show you a lot.  Heck, Carson is playing great in practice now.

Instead, they will use their own PS guys.  The piss poor roster management continues.  It's infuriating.

Well they did poach a PS guy, that O-line guy from Washington Pierschbacher who will count as a roster spot once he’s done his testing. But no clue why they aren’t using the other spot for Prince Tega. The only o-line backups tomorrow are Toth and Juriga.

Oh look. Howie has his next fall guy for the draft failure coming up. Dorsey is helpful only if he has full control. It's like Doug and his hundred consultants.

For a good part of the season, Doug was game planning on an offense that had on three of thirteen "starters”.  I include Ward and Goedert as starters because they play Ward in the slot and Goedert in 12 personnel a lot.   That is on top of a shortened preseason where the number 1 new WR missed time.  Another of the rookie WRs started the season on IR. Maybe Doug’s playcalling was affected by what he had available and their experience at the plays. The CBA really limits practice during the season.

Howie is at fault because the Eagles don’t have five starting level tackles and five starting level Gs.  It is too early to judge the new WRs.  Yes, they need another RB but all holes cannot be filled in one offseason.  JJAW looks like a bust compared to Metcalf but I am not convinced Metcalf would look as good on the Eagles with all the injuries.  I suspect the plan was to replace Jeffery in the X with JJAW, DJax with Reagor and probably eventually Ward with Hightower in the slot.  The back ups would be Fulgham, Watkins and Ward with a chance to upgrade every year.  Might still workout.  Recognizing depth needs on the interior OL, they brought in Driscoll. Long term, they gambled on Wanogho as a swing T.  Might still workout.

D has been ignored.  They added what should be either the SS or the nickel S in Wallace.  A ST ace and potential backup at SAM or MIKE in Bradley and Gerry’s  or Riley’s replacement at WIL in Taylor.  Fact none of these guys played much is on Schwartz. The rest of the secondary was addressed by the Slay trade.  Slay may have been the best CB available last year.  Now the good news is, this coming year is a good CB class.  Last year was a SS class at S, this year there are more FS available. The Avery pick was a bust it seems but getting Dallas’ fifth wasn’t.

I am less pessimistic about the rebuild in progress than a lot of you.  Afan may have sprinkled some of his into my drink.  I will say, if the Eagles were going to have an injury riddled belly flop season, the Covid one was the one to have.

That said there are some changes that must be made next year.  Doug needs an OC.    I don’t think that should be Press Taylor.  He also needs a real QB coach. That cannot be Press Taylor either.  The run ratio may have been impacted by Boobie’s health, the back up Gs and TE injuries but I also smell Marty.  He has to go, even if he is a scapegoat for the run ratio.  He enables it I am sure.  Schwartz hasn’t been extended so I suspect a change may be in the cards.  I don’t have an issue with the way he plays the wide nine but I sure would like to see changes in the back seven defenses and a bit more blitzes, stunts etc. BTW, a switch to a more JJ type defense makes Avery a speedball.  I do think they need a Curry replacement, a DE that is big enough to slide inside.   Those type of DEs can be had on the second day.   We’ll need some DE help soon but I am not convinced next year’s draft has any starting quality DEs.

Meh — that’s a hit job by a Browns SI writer with more opinion than fact.  The facts are Dorsey has a very strong evaluation record in the draft, although I still think Baker Mayfield at #1 was a head-scratcher

I don’t have any interest in Eric Bieniemy as head coach, though.

A Weidl/Dorsey influenced draft should be interesting.  Maybe they can convince Howie, if he is still here, to not think he can outsmart the rest of the league. Metcalf, Pumphrey, Miller should have taught him that. Hopefully the vaccine is available to allow pro days and visits.  Peele, Stout, Flajole, Istvan and even Duce traveled to pro days. I would be curious about Manuel and Moorehead.   Of course, who knows if they will be around.

Murray should have a field day with the corners the Eagles will be fielding.

If Dorsey wants to call the shots, then he will leave when he is offered full control of personnel of another team.  So, as of now, this is just window dressing. Lurie is going to have to decide very soon whether or not to give Dorsey most of the personnel control and give him a title that recognizes that.
