He did his job on 2017 and there was controversy heading into 2018.  There was controversy in New England when Jimmie G was there.  I could go on but you get the point.

There was no controversy going into 2018.  Everybody was still on board with Carson as the "franchise QB" and Foles was just around for when he was hurt and not able to play.

The controversy started in 2018 when the team shut Wentz down with a mysterious injury so they wouldn't have to bench him for being ineffective.  Then the controversy got worse when Foles clearly outplayed him and led us to an improbable playoff berth and win.

Once again, the controversy was over in 2019 because the team got rid of Foles even though he outplayed Wentz.  They then handed Carson a massive early contract extension.  He proceeded to turn in another up and down season, barely backing into the playoffs against the garbage tier NFC East, before getting himself hurt yet again, and leaving the team to rely on a 40 year old Josh McCown with a torn quad.

Coming into 2020 there was again zero controversy.  Only after 12 games of total ineptitude did they finally make the switch to the rookie 2nd rounder, who would only ever be a backup if Carson could do his job.

Remember when the Eagles signed Jim McMahon and there was a QB controversy with Howard Eskin saying he should start over Cunningham in 1990.

Not really, but I didn't listen to Howard back when I was a kid lol.  I don't remember any controversy since Randall put up an MVP season.

I don't really remember any controversy with Randall once he became the starter until 1994 when he started to decline.  He was MVP in 1990, got hurt immediately in 1991, played well in 1992, and played well in 1993 until getting hurt again.

If the Eagles are tied to Malik Jackson and Graham for 2021, how the heck to they bring back Barnett and meet the cap?  The only guys I’m seeing who are significant cap savings to say goodbye to are Jeffery, Desean, Ertz, and Barnett.

I'm sure Howie will find a way to sweep some more 2025 money to Graham, Seumalo, Lane Johnson, Cox, Hargrave, Brooks and anyone else already on some long veteran deals.  Keep kicking that can.  That should offload 10-20m off the 2020 books and into the years after Lurie has been forced by people with pitchforks to fire Howie.

His contract is what it is next year, and there is dead years after that already.  Not a lot we can do with his deal without creating additional dead cap down the road.

Yup basically you are stuck with it

Why? Why don’t the same Wentzcuses, all 33 of them, apply to Hurts too.

We were up to #36 before GoDaddy F'd up the board.  Too bad because we lost some great ones!

2022 - 2024 are void years just to spread out the signing bonus.  His contract expires after next year.

I'm so tired of hearing about how great Howie is at managing the cap.   This contract ALONE kills that notion.

Why pay a 33 year old DE $13M?    You don't... BUT... if they cut him, they are still on the hook for.... $18M in dead space.   Imagine that.  If he's here, he costs $18M in 2021, and still has $13M left in dead money in 2022.   If he's traded, they are still on the hook for the $18M, same as if he were cut.  But, at least then the cost would be zero moving forward.

But, if Howie is here, he'll take that $13M salary, turn $12M into signing bonus, 'freeing up' $9M for 2021... but costing that $9M in additional dead money for 2022.... making him cost more ($22M) in 2022 when he's not on the roster than when he is in 2021 ($9M).

So you're keeping Nathan Gerry....

of course not... I just left the ellipsis to do the rest of the talking.    ;)    I think he's a free agent anyway, and I'm sure that a bunch of teams will be hot on his trail.

Extending Barnett lowers his number. He's at $10M right now, they could probably sign him and get that down to about $2-$3

It's an emotional contract. There's been a lot of those since the SB

I don't remember Gerry's injury being his back. I thought it was something with his lower body.

He's a free agent. No need to offer him a new contract, unless the DC is retained and demands he return.

He is. I just saw Jason Peters on your list who is also a free agent

I guess you could say they’re backtracking on his original injury

Is Mailata supposed to play? Don't see this Oline blocking well against that Dline

I would sit him because its a concussion and there's no reason for him to play.  Nothing left for him but reps, but it's better to make sure his brains aren't scrambled.   More rest after a concussion is always best.

Goodwin too.

It was his achilles. And he just had surgery on it around the same time as Johnson.

The Eagles aren't mailing it in; they are going to win the game.

There are going to be a lot of business decisions in this game. You think Malik Jackson is going to go all-out? Jeffrey/Jackson know they're being cut, they're going to save themselves. Goedert is out. Mailata might be out. The OL will be bad against a team that won't need to blitz the entire game.

We're not beating Washington without lots of turnovers.

I could see Curry back.  If they trade Graham, they'll need some bodies and Curry is going to be cheap.

I would be Avery will sign somewhere, anywhere else just to get out of here.

It's wild to think about, but Zach Ertz may have saved Rosemans job. Can you imagine how more terrible our cap would be if Howie extended Ertz with over two years left on his deal, locked him in for more years getting paid more than Hooper (roughly 3rd highest paid after Kelce and Kittle signed their deals), and then had a season like this?

I'm ok with one or two of those... But a dozen is too many.

That didn't matter this past year either.   Lurie and Peters are besties.  I'm actually worried that he'll be back.

Malik jackson makes more sense if you release him as a post June 1st cut then just cutting him.
