I guess Afan is putting it out there as as trial to see if they can pin the bad contracts on Doug.

Its just ridiculous.    Even if Doug is the one who wanted these players... he's not the one who structures the deals.   But can someone tell me what it will take for Howie to actually take responsibility for anything?

I said it a couple days ago, but I'll say it again... If Howie gets credit for 2017, then he gets credit for the mess we're in.   If he doesn't, then get rid of him anyway, because he's not bringing anything to the table anyway, besides being a playmate for Lurie.

Howie only takes credit for when things work or players are good like that one preseason game JJAW actually did something and other GMs were calling him to tell him what a great pick it was. During the season we just blame the WR coach

If Howie selected prospects half as well as he lines up his fall guys, we'd be winning 12 games per year.  A GM who has had 3 power struggles with HC's, all of which led to the deterioration of talent identification/development, and has survived all of them.  AR, Chip, Douglas, now Pederson.

Fall guy #5 will be our Joe Douglas 2.0, who will be hired this offseason.  Get ready for them to wax poetic about the exceptional personnel/drafting skills and football experience of this yet unnamed individual and how well he meshes with Howie.  Fall guy #6 will be our next HC.

But Lurie 'keeps meticulous records about who was right and who was wrong about prospects...and Howie was always right.'

Yeah... I've heard... and afan just reminded us of it.

"We'll have a better idea when Lurie fires Pederson, Howie or both - because he's probably the only one who really knows how the decisions were made."

The worst thing the Eagles could possibly do this offseason is also the most likely thing that they will do: hire Joe Douglas 2.0.

Either we are all wrong about Howie, the bad draft picks were everyone else's fault, he needs to stop acquiescing to the idiots surrounding him, and shine on his own as the GM.

Or...the fact that our "general manager" constantly needs a babysitter to manage personnel and make draft picks should horrify the owner and allow him to realize that someone else needs to be the GM.  I mean come on...this is like hiring a football throwing expert to stand next to your QB and throw the passes for him because his weakness is throwing the football.  If he can't do his job, then get someone else to do it.

Either way, the WORST thing we can do is hire another Joe Douglas to "help" Howie.  And that's why it's exactly what Lurie's big offseason move will be.

He needs to go.   He's a supposed cap wizard... but instead of pulling a rabbit out of his hat, the rabbit doo-dooed all in the hat.   Now he needs to wear it as he leaves the building.

I think some people are being a little harsh towards Lurie.  You have to place yourself in his shoes post-Chip Kelly.

That lead-by-consensus dynamic absolutely worked after Chip, who was power hungry, and when we had a bunch of unproven coaches.  But over time it got stale, there were power grabs, and it went to S. Thats where Lurie failed, to identify when the structure needed to change with the state of the organization

You have to look at the environment in whic the decisions were made.  Like now, some people are clamoring for a Chip Kelly type.  The pendulum has swung.

But overall, Lurie has been an engaged and good owner

If Lurie doesn't fire Howie then Lurie is now the problem IMO

The real reason we were flexed to SNF

Wow, what a kick in the teeth that would be.

Hightower and Watkins (especially Watkins), who can't buy game reps in their offense to save their lives and might actually have something to work with moving forward....now they are going to step aside for JJAW.  Just because we need to quadruple check in one more game that he sucks something awful in the fear that he produces for someone else after we cut him in the offseason.

Gotta make sure Greg Ward gets his 90% snaps in too. Hightower might just be inactive again

Watch him go off for 150 and 2 TD

At this point... anything to ensure the "L" works for me.    Picking no later than 6 is in the bag with the "L".   So.... sure, check on JJAW.  Target him every play.   Put him at LT in place of Mailata.   Whatever.

Not a great idea to get this drunk in the middle of the week.

And then Howie uses that to justify passing on Chase

I seriously doubt they bench Alshon

Doug and his staff have no say in decision making?

Oh right.

There is some serious spin control going on here. That happens when people are scared for their jobs.

They should. Last thing you’d want is him to tear an ACL and then we are stuck with him next year until they come to a settlement.

They probably don’t though.

I figure the coaches evaluations not being weighed enough relates more to roster decisions rather than draft scouting. Thats not a coach's job. Theres a whole department of scouts to do the evaluating when it comes to drafting. And we have heard repeatedly how much input the coaches actually get when it comes to picking. Quite a bit. Today's rumor seems to relate to final 53 decisions, and game day active/inactive. Which definitely should be more coach's decision, and weve heard allegedly that its not.

We know that they won't be benching Greg Ward.

Everybody is pointing the finger at the other guy.

Coaches set the schemes, then tell the scouts and GM what they're looking for, so if the coaches (read Pederson) wanted a speed guy to stretch the field, they'd lobby for Reagor over Jefferson. Same way Schwartz probably lobbies for a certain kind of CB/S and stresses the need for DL.

The 53 man roster decisions are on the margin more about the cap and losing prospects they want to keep long-run, obviously the top 40-45 players are close to set in stone by the end of camp, so we'd be talking about marginal decisions like exposing Toohill v another marginal player.

Ya bad part of it I’m sure are the inactives tho

Trask Heisman hopes are over.  In less than 1 quarter.

Sounds like a good QB factory prospect

If JJAW gets playing time in week 17, especially with Pryor/Toth as OTs, I have no idea why we'd play Jalen Hurts. Just start Sudfeld.

Lurie has been and is the best Eagles owner over the past 50 years and it isn't debatable.

Leonard Tose-

Norman Braman

Lurie.

He is not the problem.  Without a doubt  he sees the issues of poor drafting and the cap hell.  Lurie has made a lot of excellent and tough decisions since he became owner,  he will do it again.   We may not agree with how it shakes out this off season, but it will be ameasured, considered, and difficult decisions.
