Lawrence has really been bailed out on some not great throws by his receivers.

thats what he does

Nope, he's an infallible prospect.  That hitch in his throw and lifting his foot to get umph on the ball is an aberration.

That targeting call is terrible. College football officiating is the worst.

Fields comes back and immediately throws a TD.

Fields pretty boss level right now I thought he was done after that hit

He might not come back after the half once that hit sets in a little more.

Say what Jack? Mailata is playing his first competitive games (other than some exhibition game snaps) in HIS LIFE this season.

He's only been playing football at any level for three years.

Geez. Talk about hot takes.

It’s less of a hot take than not needing to go LT round 1 because we have him but ok Hoss

Curious how they determine this stat.  With that said, Hurts' accuracy is beyond terrible.

Not according to some around here.  Of course part of this goes to how uncoordinated this team’s offense is.

Nice that the announcers don't know the new rules for kickoffs.  He clearly called a fair catch.

Not sure if Skalski is dumb or dirty.

Skalski really needs to learn how to properly tackle... HEAD UP!!!

Not a great call... but tackling like that isn't safe.   That's a potential Dennis Byrd style vertebrae compression injury waiting to happen.

When I first saw it I thought he just got him incidentally with his helmet. I agree he lowered his head but I don’t agree with the call.  Fields turned into the helmet.

Looks like Skalski was trying to slam him with his shoulder, but he did have his head down and not up.  The initial contact was with the helmet and not the shoulder.  I get why they have the targeting rule, in part to protect the players and also to try and keep the defenders aware they need to use proper form to tackle.  I don't think Skalski was trying to hurt Fields there, he just used poor form.  It's unfortunate, but the way the rules are his actions fell into the parameters of targeting.  I think there's a difference between a player using poor form and not intentionally trying to hurt another player and a player who is trying to do harm to another player and maybe the rules should differentiate between the two.

Justin Fields playing like a top 5 pick tonight.

What's happening on your TV (on both sides) does not work in the NFL.  No he's not.

I feel that hit was for sure not dirty

I agree.  But, when you are staring at the grass rather than your target when making a tackle... that's a problem.

He has a track record. I'm not sure he understands the rule.

Dabo Sweeney should be fired for punting here

I'm curious if Trevor Lawrence knows what the inside of a weight room looks like.

This game is in danger of getting out of hand quickly.

But, there's no way Fields will be keeping the ball anymore.   I think he's got some broken ribs.  Amazing that he's still in the game.

Sermon is destroying any chance of being a Day 3 pick tonight though...

Yes- shouldn’t have lowered his head but I don’t think they should have made the call. I don’t think he initiated contact with his helmet.  He hit him first with his shoulder.

I’d take Sermon early 2nd round. No doubt

I don't mind the call, honestly.  He needs to learn proper technique.   And if the coaches won't pull him off the field when he's lazy, then the officials should.  It's for his own good, honestly.  Not only is it dangerous for the player he is hitting, its dangerous for him too.

Watching the reverse angle replay, that looked eerily similar to the Dennis Byrd hit, fortunately, he hit a softer target than Byrd did.
