Marvin Lewis seemed to always bring in great assistants in Cincinnati and repeatedly showed he could handle all sorts of personalities.

If Doug goes and Lurie can't bring in a Joe Brady/Lincoln Riley type, I would be absolutely fine with Marvin Lewis. Obviously not the sexiest hire, but in my opinion a great contingency plan.

I could get behind Lewis if we go the retread route at DC. Not at HC

I really don’t want to hear during the telecast Sunday night that Doug has a vote of confidence from Lurie or Howie.

I can’t believe I’m the first one to say this......

Make Brian Dawkins the DCzzz!

Howie gave him such terrible CBs and LBs he hates the sport and wants to retire

Schwartz loves his Gerry's, Maddox' s, Mills, he doesn't want linebackers. If he wanted specific players Howie would have gotten them for him. This defense was bad because of Schwartz just as much as Howie.

If you’re trading for him you believe he’s an NFL starting QB for the next 10-12 years.

We’re not talking mid round picks here.

And if you’re trading him away, you don’t think that.  So that makes it equally hard to talk first round picks.

His biggest detriment is talent evaluation, for sure.  If his departure means the departure of the three guys you listed — I’m all for it

Lmao yeah Schwartz WANTED 7th round/undrafted players starting all over his defence. That sounds totally credible.

I’m not gonna miss Schwartz. He was fine. He’s a 9-5 65k a year job. You can do worse, you can also do better.

I’m a guy who likes to go for broke. I’ll join a startup with the potential of making it big and risking bottoming out. Schwartz was solid and dependable but the defense was never truly great and was never consistent. Even in the SB year the defense sucked on the road.

I’m fine taking that swing at someone better and if they’re worse so be it. I don’t expect to compete next season anyway.

If they promote from within I’m gonna lose my crap.

I don't know if I quite agree with that. I think he wants LBs and talent, but at this stage of his career he probably didn't want drama with Howie. So, he probably just accepted it. I guess you could make the argument that his accepting it is part of the problem. But, ultimately, Howie has control. Schwartz's system is built for a team that has talent in the front 7 and at least a decent CB.  The problem is our LBs are weak and CB has been a problem spanning several DCs now. So, that is on Howie.

Yea I’m not buying that. He’s had strong linebackers everywhere he’s been and even had decent ones when he got here at first with Hicks, Bradham and Kendricks. He plays his favorites for sure but he also got dealt bad hands here with player personnel.

First block to fall

Honestly might be the best thing for him if he wants to keep coaching.  His methods, scheme, etc are old school.  The game has changed and will continue to change.  He needs to adapt to these new types of offenses.

Thanks for the Super Bowl, Schwartz.

Re-tread DC’s potentially out there.

Lovie Smith - maybe. It would be funny brining him in with these terrible LB’s.

Wade Phillips - we have worse personnel to switch to a 3-4 than we did in 2013. No thanks .

John Fox - meh. Give me someone younger.

I think we are in decent shape to go 3-4

Someone made the suggestion to bring Mills back after watching him get torched for 50-yard play after 50-yard play, and someone sees Boston Scott as more than a 3rd string gadget player.  Those folks need to get shown the door.

A 3-4 system for a team that doesn't value LBs isn't the way to go unless Howie decides to change his philosophy.

We would value OLB greatly if we went to a 3-4.

I don’t know if this report changes anything, but if Lurie was planning on firing Schwartz on Monday and making him the fall guy, that can’t happen now.

Now, if he was going to be their big move, theyd have to announce the status quo on Monday which would be a really bad look.

Press Taylor will probably be the only one who will be shown the door.

I disagree that he doesnt want LBs.  Look at everywhere he's been.  Tennessee, Detroit, Buffalo.  He's always had good LB play and they are important for the type of defense he runs.  Even his first couple years here we had Bradham, Hicks and Kendricks.

If anything maybe Howie doesnt want LBs.  I read a report that Schwartz wanted the LB Murray from Oklahoma early in the draft.

The issue with Schwartz for me isnt the way the front 7 plays but it's the secondary.  He has them play way too soft imo.  Not to mention his scheme for the secondary seems confusing for players as several always seem to be in bad positions.

He has too strong a personality to be content as a DC.  Also been a long time since he ran a defense.

Not to mention I think he bashed Doug last year pretty good.  So dont think DP would like the hire if he's still HC.

I'd prefer keeping a 4-3. I've always liked a 4-3 better. Plus, it does take a couple of years to make the switch and we have enough holes on both sides of the ball and that will make that process take longer, IMO.

He’s letting his contract expire so he was never going to get fired, just not retained. Doesn’t seem like a fall guy move.
