This.  It is rare, if ever that an Eagles WR is running open like Cupp, Woods and Higbee did all day yesterday.

It’s rare that the Eagles have played a defense that’s as bad as the Eagles defense was yesterday. those guys are running wide open because we have guys like Epps who are running to the sideline to no one in particularly  meanwhile kupp right in front of him so he leaves him wide open. And Higbee getting that wide open is because Gerry can’t cover he’s always 2 steps behind.

Don’t get me wrong doug’s offense has to do a better job scheming to get guys open and McVay is very good at what he does. But a lot of things that happened yesterday for the Rams is because of the Eagles personnel was awful and be the Eagles had so many mental breakdowns. Heck I think Dallas‘s defense stinks but they only gave up 20 to the Rams because their defense of personnel and defense didn’t make nearly as many mental breakdowns as the Eagles did

Any Schwartz criticism is warranted. When multiple players are out of position, it's coaching.

Is that Schwartz or the position coach? Gerry has been bad for a long time. He isn’t the LB coach.

Both the safeties and LBs are out of position.

Man yesterday was awful

Earlier i made a joke about why Wentz had regressed so much.

After thinking about it i'm gonna compare it to Antonio Brown. He was kind of a head case to begin with but after the Burflict concussion he became an absolute nut job.

These 2 games are the first 2 that Wentz has played since his concussion. Is it having a lasting effect?

If the Eagles were aware and concerned about this it could provide some insight as to why they drafted Hurts.

The fact that Riley is being used as much is ridiculous. It tells you just how bad the linebackers are. That dude is not a significant snap linebacker

Epps is a JAG too. He had two of the worst coverage busts you’ll ever see last year.

YUp...it was only because of the versatility of Jenkins playing the equivalent of LB that he covered up the poor LB play., especially Gerry..the Eagles have not replaced Jenkin's role as of yet..until they do....TE's are going to kill us..that is why I want to see Taylor or Wallace get a shot

Somehow we were lucky to only lose one starter yesterday.

Ugh, what happened to the "Slot God"?

Soall and kist made the same point that I made yesterday in the game day thread, there was a reason besides just money that the Rams were just OK letting him go and he sat on the market into the second/third wave of free agency.  I do think he’s better than what he played yesterday but I think people overrated just how good he was.

Also when are we going to start talking about maddox as he’s not as good as the Eagles keep spinning him to be.

Our LBs have been incredibly slow to diagnose plays over the past two-plus years.

I don’t blame Schwartz for Gerry being a bad player. I blame him for being so comfortable playing him.

To this point in the season, that could be said about 85% of the team.

Maybe a game or two more and the pressure will be to bring in the Eagles draftees to the defense...Taylor, Wallace, and Bradley can't do any worse than what we are already seeing...at least they won't give up on plays and they will definitely hit the hell out of something

That is kind of what I was thinking.  Throw Taylor and Wallace into the mix.  Don’t agree on Bradley but more TJ.

If rumors are true he has pull with howie and he hasn’t gone to howie and said get me actual good linebackers i also blame him for that too.

Agreed. They can't diagnose plays and to be honest when they are in the right spot I think it's more luck than judgement.

He wasn’t good the first four weeks of last year before sendejo knocked him out. Maddox has given up the most receiving and slot yards Of any slot corner first four weeks. He came back and was average.

Not sure how much NRC helped the eagles defense on finding the rams weaknesses but the rams seems to know how to expose NRC weaknesses. Maybe that's why they cut him.

Taylor is not ready. You likely see a lot of the same things you see with Gerry cause he’s a project. I came here the next night after they drafted him and said one of the Arizona coaches really loved him.  said he’s going to be good but it’s gonna take him at least a year to even two years until he’s ready to be a starting caliber player. Now if you’re OK with growing pains and hopefully he gets better week to week then I’m all for it. But I think you’re gonna be underwhelmed thinking he’s going to be better than Gerry right now.

Wait until after week 6. The Niners and Ravens would put those guys into a blender.

His size has hurt us. He couldn’t bring down Barber on fourth and short Week 1 and he couldn’t tackle Higbee short of the GL. You live with that when he’s covering well, but when he isn’t even doing that...

While I don't disagree with this, any criticism of the defense has to take into account the overall lack of talent, and especially younger talent.  Can we point to a single, promising young defensive player?  Or anyone who is improving who could become one?

Cox has not looked like the same player since last year.  Still influences the game, but not as much.  BG still makes plays, but he is getting older and slower.  Malik Jackson has made some nice plays and looked good at times.  Hargrave did nothing that I saw yesterday.  Very slow, and got moved off his spot regularly.  This is who we spent big money on in FA?  Wow it looks bad.  Sweat had the nice play last week, didn't see him do much this week.  Barnett is still hurt and did he show anything?  The strength of the defense does not look like much of a strength at all anymore.

Gerry is a nice 4th LB and ST player, like an Ike Reese type.  Imagine if Ike Reese was the best LB on the team during the 2000-2004 era.  That's where we are.  Gerry is a hybrid player who is small yet fast and makes too many mistakes.  Liked TJ Edwards last year and said he would make the team -- great at Wisconsin and great instincts - but UDFA for a reason.  Very limited athletically, the kind of guy you have to play STs and as a backup who wont kill you.  Not a playmaker.  Duke Riley is a special teams/fringe player cut by another bad defense, and playing significant snaps here.  It's hard to say how many other teams any of these guys would even make.  It's as bad an LB group as I can remember the Eagles having and that is going back a long time now.

Slay is as advertised, he is what the team needed the last two years.  He is wasted here now.  McCleod is older and slower.  Mills is out of position far too often, and it's hard to see him coming close to what Malcolm was here.  Maddox was always a guy that could be an awesome slot, and he has his moments with the great COD and competitiveness, but he is sometimes overmatched on the outside.  They slot guys are solid.  But overall, outside of one cover CB what do they have here?

There is just nothing much to hope for on the bench behind this group... I like the Clemson safety and yet he was a 4th round pick.  They took a linebacker in the 3rd round - on a team in desperate need of LBs - who had two years of football experience.  You knew when Jordan Hicks hit the field the first time that he could play, and would contribute.  It says a lot when a 3rd round pick is nowhere near the field with what is in front of him.  I feel like our drafting is a mixture of Al Davis and Matt Millen strategies with some new age analytics thrown in.  It's a train wreck.

If kittle is back and jimmy g plays then Kyle shanahan is licking his chops for that Gerry matchup.
