Since 2018, he's a .467 quarterback. Accuracy and consistency have remained issues. Fumbling has remained an issue. The only area he's been significantly worse in right now is INTs. This isn't a hot take.

Now post the fumbles. Refer to the winning percentage written above. Refer to the team's number of playoff wins with him vs. without him. Wentz's uninspiring play is a multiple season issue; the INTs are a 2020 issue.

It's not a hot take.  It just doesn't make sense given the facts.  Sure win/loss is a statistic but it is not a statistic that directly correlates to QB play.  The reason your take is wrong is because when you look at his actual play he has been a better than average QB over the last 2 seasons.    Sure Wentz could play better and has had bad games.  He was solidly in the middle of starting NFL QBs last season in terms of completion percentage.  The Eagles were among the top of the League in terms of drops.  He was off target worse than average but also on target greater than average.  He was third in the League in terms of completion percentage in 2018 and among the lowest in the League in terms of throws off target.  Wentz has played poorly the last 2 games.  He has to improve but if you look at the last 2 seasons as a kind of told you so you look foolish.

The throw was late. Carson throws it earlier it's a td. If JJaw is  more aware of the ball it's at least an incompletion.

No one was open on that play, JJaw had a few steps on single coverage with a safety coming from opposite side of field you take that throw all day other option is leaving pocket extending play or throw the ball away.

 

Here's a good breakdown of the 3 plays Hurts was in on.  My question is it more the motion and pump fakes that freeze the defense or is Hurts in their head?  I just don't understand why use him in this role when he's the only backup quarterback.

I didn't think wentz was  a top 15 qb ,and stated as much , I still feel the same way.

To me he is right in that 15 area ,maybe a spot or two higher...but certainly not a top 10 nfl qb.

I still dont get it.

Play 1 the middle of the field cleared after he pump faked to Sanders. The pump fake to Hurts did nothing. You could also do the same play with Scott in place of Hurts and nothing changes.

Play 2, useless.

Play 3 was the biggest thing he actually did. Faked an end around and froze the S for a half second. Still don't see what makes Hurts special in that role that you couldn't just do with Hightower.

I don’t think we can glean much from his usage or the plays beyond teams having to spend a little more time each week looking at trick plays. 

I suspect we’re setting things up to use later on.

This is why the NFL is week to week.  Right now he's playing like he's somewhere in the 20's as far as rank.  There was a point last year where he was maybe a top 15.  Then the last 4 games people starting saying he's definitely top 10 maybe top 5.  He's too inconsistent.  One week Dak is overrated and Dallas needs to find someone else.  The next week it's what are you waiting for Jerry?  Pay the man!!

I think it was a combination of that and a poor throw. I think if Carson had put the ball more in front of JJ it's a catch or incomplete.

My opinion on Wentz has been consistent -- In 2018 and 2019, he was simply not accurate or consistent enough. Point blank. However, the Eagles' wagon is hitched to him, for better or worse, and the Eagles have to make it work. Wentz coming out and looking even worse in 2020 is extremely discouraging, and the excuses are drying up. Folks holding on to 2017 like it means something in 2020 is delusional.
