Caplan went after Wentz again pretty good today. Said from everyone’s he’s talked to Wentz is just not being receptive enough to coaching and he’s ignoring what he’s being told. He said that’s the reason Doug was a little more vocal about criticism toward him that the frustration inside that locker room is building.

Apparently he’s just freelancing and doing whatever he wants when on the field. Just ignoring what he’s taught.

Take that for what it is.

It just doesn't seem to fit. He's never shown anything like this before

Media could just be doing this for clicks 🤷‍♂️

It's pretty obvious that the other players and the coaches are frustrated with him.  The guy obviously no leader at all.  Just a talented headcase.

I should clarify when Caplan said that he didn't imply Wentz was being nonchalant and doesn't care. More so, he was trying too hard to be a hero and carry the team and is ignoring the mechanical things he's taught because of it.

Who the F would tell Caplan this information unless they want to get fired?  This wouldn't come from a disgruntled player.  Sounds like he's bored and creating his own narratives for clicks.

ESPN also reported the same thing that Wentz is ignoring coaching and doing what he thinks is best come game time. There's too much smoke here.

Cmon two weeks into the year, they should bench a QB who would  have won the NFL MVP award had he not become injured?  Norm Van Brocklin was the only Eagles who won the award.   McNabb or Cunningham were a big part of great teams....QB always usually win the award.  Lets give him a few more years.   IMO Dawkins, or Reggie White were much better than any of the recent Eagles QBs.

Wrong.  Randall Cunningham won MVP in 1990.

Furthermore, he missed most of 1991 and 1993, and then was benched by Jon Gruden in 1995 for Rodney Peete.

OTOH Carson Wentz hasn't won jack ish.  We're 3 years removed from his almost MVP season, and he's missed tons of games w/injuries including the end of the last 3 seasons.

No clue why people are so defensive with this guy.

It's not uncommon for a QB to butt heads with coaches over their mechanics. Everyone throws the ball a little differently, and that's okay.

Wentz does have a few mechanical issues, and they need to be coached up. He needs to improve his feet, stop throwing the ball with all arm, and stop double clutching the ball. These things are non-negotiable. They have to get better.

The only reason I could see it being something he is resistant to change is that it's something he doesn't feel he has much control over because it's happening when he's getting rattled and can't help it.

Oh and Caplan and Mosher both surprised me and said they don’t think Herbig is going to start for much longer. They were less enthused about his performance on Sunday than others were. They think to implement some of Scangarello’s concepts they need more agile and athletic linemen and Herbig isn’t that, so they think within a couple weeks Brown will be starting at guard.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

Geez, the worship some people have for Wentz is mind boggling, it's like he's prime John Elway or something.

That’s why I was down on Herbig when we signed him as a UDFA. He just isn’t agile or athletic. I really didn’t see how he fit our mold.

He appears to have some kind of future in the league though.

Joe Montana was MVP in 1990; Cunningham was never good enough to even be thought of as a candidate

Not surprising tbh. While we ran the ball well, it was a limited approach. Just inside and outside zone.

Pretty much what Caplan said, Wentz is not responding to coaching. "Carson Wentz is going to do what he wants to do"

I do find the stuff Caplan was hearing odd though. Maybe it's right and Wentz is freelancing, but IMO Wentz's best performances and best plays were freelancing plays. When Wentz improvises is when he's always been at his best.

I'm not sure a QB even has time to think about mechanics while a play is evolving. If you have to stop and think about mechanics, you're probably screwed to begin with, they should come naturally through repetition.

I don't know, this whole situation is so odd and I just have a bad feeling about all of it.

Cunningham finished second in the MVP voting and was a first-team all-pro by the Pro Football Writers Association. Montana was first team by the AP.

After hearing all these reports, I can't believe I'm saying this, but we owe Josina Anderson an apology. She was reporting the truth, we just didn't want to believe it.

Wrong.  Montana was the AP MVP that year.  However Randall was the Pro Football Writers Association MVP in 1990.  So obviously he WAS good enough to even be thought of as a candidate and to actually WIN something, unlike Wentz who's never won jack sh!t.

Dude u got me rollin haha

If you want to listen to it, it's the Inside the Birds podcast. They have one after the game on Monday for initial reactions and then another on Wednesday breaking down the game more in depth.

I don't listen to a lot of sports podcasts because frankly it's overkill, but that, Birds with Friends and Bleeding Green Nation with BLG and Kempski are ones I listen to each week.

ITB for insight, the latter two because they aren't afraid to go after this team when they need to be called out.
