What about every other player on the team?   We should excuse poor play because their possible replacements were drafted?   Or do we just coddle Wentz and tell everyone else to suck it up?

FFS, I never said it should be used to excuse his poor play.

Just those stating "it shouldn't be an issue" are ridiculous as it's basic human psychology is all.

It's could be a small part of his overall issues.

I have no idea if it is or not as much as anyone else which is why the speculation is silly to begin with.

He's right though.

We've all seen Carson play at a high level even as recently as last year with practice squad WRs.  It's only been 2 games and chances are he will snap out of his funk.  But the flaws he's showing shouldn't be happening in year 5.

But if it's true that he's bothered by the Hurts pick or by Foles being his backup then he is mentally weak and not cut out to lead a franchise.  If that's the case........

If that's the sole reason for his poor play, sure.

Do you honestly think that though?

All his poor play is due to the Hurts pick?

Highly highly doubtful.

Put down Shi Smith WR for Gamecocks for potential Eagles pick in the future.

He's a pretty good WR.

To a degree, I agree. Reich is a solid coach but I’m not sure he’s some offensive guru

The Colts were very good his first year there with Luck. Last year, Luck left them right before the season and they won 9? games with Brissett. Not terrible. I guess we'll see how they do this year.

With all the reports that came out about Doug being overwhelmed, I wonder if this is the thought around the league as well.

I feel like this off-season was classic Eagles. They originally hire Doug and surround him with Reich (former OC) and DeFilippo (former OC) and they have two years of success. They try to replace both with in house options, fail, and then go overkill and bring in a ton more of former OC’s and just hope for the best and try to recreate the same magic. They need to scrap this collaborative group that’s showing absolutely nothing different, have a QB coach that will actually coach QB’s and hire an actual OC that will listen to Duce and listen to Press or whoever the passing game analyst is and funnel all the info through to Doug.

He works well with what he has, so he doesn't have to be.

I think Doug is a good offensive coach. Frank just might be great. He always has another level, another answer for the defense's scheme. Doug's offense is a lot of the same thing over and over again. Frank always seems to know what will work next.

I hope not but nobody knows what he's thinking.  Maybe it does bother him and partly the reason why he tries too hard to hit HR plays instead of taking what's available.

All I'm saying is we've seen him play at an MVP level.  We've seen him play well with no talent at WR.  He shouldn't be playing this bad.  Something isnt right whether its mentally or he's injured and just not saying so.

Probably the same with Rivers as QB.

I'm not saying they should trade Wentz but if there was a perfect team, perfect situation for him it would be Indy.  Reich is there, Rivers is almost done, they need a QB.  I could see the Colts giving up some nice draft picks to take Wentz if the Eagles want to go in that direction.

Yup, that’s what I meant. Some guys are obsessed with reinventing the game to the detriment of the team. Some guys take what they have and bring out the best of them. Give me the second option.

Dont get me wrong. I love Wentz. Loved the pick, loved the promise and potential. I with nothing but the best for him. But..... I am seriously concerned that he just doesnt have "it"

Not making excuses for him because he’s played like crap and he needs to play better if he’s out there. And his mechanics shouldn’t be that bad even with this issue going on. But I kind of have a feeling that "groin” injury in training camp is worse than what they said. McNabb had something similar in 2005 and they said he’ll just play through it is not that bad and then by midway through the season he needed to get surgery on it.

Frankly if he does i understand why he is playing through it cause if he didn’t everyone around the world would say he’s made of glass and hurts likely would get to start.  if hurts played great he might face the same issue that he had with foles all over again.

If he randomly pops up on the injury report in a couple weeks with that same groin injury Then it only confirms the fact that I think there was a bigger issue going on in the Eagles didn’t want to admit it

granted he could be fine And he’s just not playing well at all. But again I would not be shocked if week eight he has a groin injury if they’re out of it and it pops up on the injury report

I want draft picks and Quenton Nelson. Lol

Wentz never had any issue with Foles being in Philly, and I seriously doubt he has any issue with Hurts.  At least the team called him before they made the pick.

I love reich but i kind of think he’s a better OC then he’s is a HC. Colts went 7-9 last year. I get losing luck really hurts right before the season but they also lost to the dolphins, bucs and jags. They were better then all three of those teams. They should’ve been 9-7 at worse if you just win 2 of those 3.

And frankly signing Philip Rivers is gonna look like a bust. I don’t know how many of you watch the chargers last year but if they had a better quarterback that team probably be competing for a wild card. Don’t get me wrong they only won five games last year but Philip Rivers was bad in like six or seven of those losses. if they just had average quarterback played they probably win. Like the two Oakland games they should’ve won if their quarterback played was just Slightly above average

Draft picks most likely.  Nelson.....doubt it.

Yeah but i can dream about it. Their oline is really good. Hats off to the colts cause they fixed that baby up fast. Cause it was dreadful. Feel bad for Andrew luck because if you would’ve had that offensive line at the start of his career he probably still playing and now it’s good and they don’t have a good quarterback

And a lot if that is also up to coaches to get ironed out too.

Both Wentz and Doug should be getting equal criticism, IMO.

I'd hope that the coaches, especially Doug are pointing out these mistakes and flaws while trying to get them corrected.  If they arent then they shouldn't be coaching in the NFL.

On the opposite end, maybe Carson isnt listening to them and doesnt work on his mechanics or take coaching well.

It's not just pointing them out. It's getting them corrected with more consistency.

If he isn't listening then why extend him?

If he's just not able to do it, then they need to try a different approach.

That's kind of what coaching is all about.

Wentz is a glorified Kevin kolb at this point.

Agree

It’s been a while since I’ve been this unexcited for an Eagles game. Feels like a burden to watch tomorrow.
