Well, sure, he had a high ceiling, but this team didn't win a World Series when they had the 4 aces.  They won the World Series while they had 1 ace, a retread, a grandpa, an 'innings-eater'... and a stellar back 3 in the bullpen and big boppers 1 through 8.

The band box that is Citizens Bank Park means you need lots of bats, and a strong bullpen to shut it down after you get the lead.

I think that 2010 team didn't win purely because of cruel random chance.  That rotation would be the odds-on favorite to win the WS every year.  And the year they did win in 2008, their starters all played above their pay grade in the playoffs.

Now, my concern with building through aces is the increasing prevalence of Tommy John surgery.  Any pitchers with explosive stuff these days are on Tommy John watch.  20 years ago, long term success was synonymous with building an elite rotation.

I still think it's the best way to win short term, but I'm not sure about the life span of a pitcher anymore.

Absolutely... and as they throw harder and harder, it becomes far more frequent.

I agree about 2008.  It was magical.  But, most of the time, for followers of teams that win... things like that always seem to happen... and for teams that lose that are 'better on paper', they always seem to have been snake bitten.  To quote the cliché... "that's just baseball".

I'm a 'build the 8 in the field', get some good pinch hitters, and then get 'solid' pitching.  And in that launching pad that is Citizens Bank Park... it's always going to be about the hitters.  Just a different philosophy, I guess.  No 'one way'.  But, I know this:  Klentak's way ain't the right way.

Greg Ward is paying dividends. He has really developed into a solid WR and with confidence has his "quicks” back. Reminding me of how he zigged and zagged at UH. Frankly, the idea of him, Reagor, Hightower, Quez and whoever they draft in next year’s loaded draft class is exciting. If only JJAW would pan out as the big WR.  If not, maybe Butler can fill that role.

Eagles are short on dbs. I suggest trading for Douglas. He knows the system.

I believe it.

My friends little brother was a MONSTER growing up.

He was about 5'5 and 150 in 1st grade.

Later, in peewee football you had to wear a different colored sock if you weighed over 120 I think. The sock meant you couldn't handle the ball during the game. He had to wear 2 colored socks because he was twice the weight of those wearing 1.

They drew up a play where he pulled around the end and picked up their RB, the smallest kid in their class, and would run with him in his arms just to see if the refs would call it because he was technically advancing the runner, not the ball.

😂

That is illegal though.  In fact, the Fridge picked up and threw Walter Payton in a game back in 1985 at the goalline... and it was called.  You can push them, but you can't pick them up.

Isn't it illegal to even directly push the ballcarrier forward?

Sure, but still the refs have to call it if they aren't dying of laughter from the hilarity of the sight.

They always called it. It was just grade school kids having fun. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mean, picture a 200+lb 5th grader, picking up a kid the same age as him, who is about as big as one of his legs, and running over the defenders while carrying him. 😅

This same kid used to beg me to watch his little league soccer games. Not to see how many goals he scored but to see how many kids got taken off the field from him just unloading on the ball and them not being able to get out of the way.

His record was 7. 😂

Sad part is Jordan Mathews is statistically the best WR the Eagles have drafted in the last decade... by ALOT.

That's just sad. Hopefully Reagor turns out well lol

I don't know where you guys played youth football, but in Florida pop Warner football, you had weight limits at each division.  The highest division couldn't be over 15 years old with max weight of 142lbs. We got weighed before every game.  Anyone over couldn't play.

3000 person town in Idaho and we were the biggest town in the county.

Not enough kids to have weight classes.

These NBA Finals are awful.  Total mismatchup.  Wake me when the new season starts.

You have to watch the interview with LeBron when it ends so you can count how many times he says "I” compared to "we”.  When the Cavs won, the final tally in the postgame was about 65-0 ..... you can guess which way.

Never paid attention to that.  I know he said that's the championship that made him the GOAT.  What a chooch.

I’d go as far as to say I’ve never heard a single person via media or fans who wants all 3.

Really, no kidding? Never said 1 single person wants all 3 either.

It used to be, but they do it all the time now

if people would stop paying attention to him he might converse like we all actually know he can.

Wasn't Matthews was the SEC career reception leader when he graduated?

So much for production in college equating to NFL success

1. Jordan Matthews Vanderbilt 3,759
2. Amari Cooper Alabama 3,463
3. Terrence Edwards Georgia 3,093
4. Alshon Jeffery South Carolina 3,042
