That's a very optimistic take, way more than even I take as the perpetual team apologist and optimist.   I mean... it's possible.  And maybe he's the JJAW replacement we are ALL looking for at this point.  If he can do what he did last night, which is 'run the right routes', he's already a step up on JJAW.

Last night we at least saw the 'design' for what they want at WR.   Speed guy outside on one side (Hightower), Big guy on the opposite side (Fulgham) and shifty guy in the slot (Ward).  If this is rock bottom for the skill positions... it could be worse.   I mean, its not good by any stretch, but... it could be worse.

I would have felt a little better if Fulgham had caught that deep pass for the TD clean instead of almost dropping it.

Yeah.  I was feeling good about it like,  whats the best possible outcome here? When I thought of other not so fast WRs who are excellent,  Gallup and Golladay came to mind.  When I looked up he comparison it was funny to see Gallup there.

I posted it as hyperbole. I realize it was just 1 play,  and as of this moment is a silly post.  It was meant to be.

There was a sub-0.500 team that has gotten in.  Years ago, the 7-9 Seahawks got in, hosted a playoff game and beat the Saints, who had 10 or 11 wins, I think.

Yea I pointed it out a few posts later, it was the Hawks, not the Saints. I made a mistake cause the Hawks were playing the Saints in the playoffs and beat them. I just reversed the teams. I do remember the uproar after that happend though and the NFL was looking to change the rule just because of it but was not passed that time.

They interviewed Ozzy.  Asked him what he did with his "first" royalty check.

He said he bought a pair of shoes ( Guy was so poor , from Birmingham, he had no shoes ) and get THIS ..... a bottle of Brut. The aftershave you know BRUT.

Boring and confiscated

We're free, yeah
We'll fight, yeah
You'll see, yeah"

JJAW fell through a manhole cover...

Yup - There is no way to successfully tank in football.  Good teams have cultures that make for perennial winners regardless of draft position.

Yup.   Because as important as that first round pick is... they still fail half the time.  And you need to get contributions from way more than 1, 2 or even 5 guys.  Its a 53 man roster, and generally, the strongest ROSTER wins, not the one with the single best player.   The NFL isn't the NBA.  The exception to that rule seems to be in acquiring the proverbial 'franchise QB'.  Other than that... drafting at the top of the draft year after year after year is no guarantee of future success.  Plenty of teams have been drafting there for a generation or more and still... nothing.  Cleveland since they returned in 1999, Cincinnati, Detroit, Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals (outside of the one miracle season with Warner), etc.

Interesting, so fans that "do know football" don't think that injuries have anything to do with it?

I would like to see a year where injuries with this team weren't the major story.   That hasn't happened since 2016... even the Super Bowl year was highlighted by the injury narrative.

Agreed, but that's a low bar.   I was looking more from a long range view.  I don't think he's anything to be excited over, or a future starter... but... maybe.  Jimmy Smith had a remarkable career for a guy that bounced around unnoticed for a while.  So, we can hope.

Our worse case is we win the div with 6,7, or 8 wins in a really bad div again. Then we get another year of the fans who don't understand football saying "Well we made the playoffs 4 years in a row with Doug so no changes need to be made, its just injuries"

So last year we won a crappy division with 9 wins. We had a ton of injuries and could have easily blamed them and done nothing. Instead, we changed O-co-ordinators, shook up the defensive staff a bit, and drafted mainly speed guys, which we were lacking. So why do you just assume no changes would be made if we follow a similar trajectory this year?

Nah... I'm going to cling to every bit of hope I can.  I need something positive.

That's fair, but Jerry is always looking for the shiny object.  Their defense is a freaking sieve.   Its a good thing for the Eagles, so I'm glad of it, but it was a poor use of resources.  Not quite the level of a Round 2 backup QB for gadget plays that don't work, but still... not a good use of resources.

As for what they've invested in the LB position, I'm not sure I see it.   They spent a 1st on VanderEsch, who can't stay healthy (2018) and took a flyer on Jaylon Smith in the 2nd in 2016.  Outside of them, what have they invested in the LB position over the last 5 years?  Sean Lee years and years ago, who is a great player, but can't stay healthy.  LVE is a really good to great player, who can't stay healthy.  Smith is a medical marvel, and is likely to have a fairly short career given his injury history.

Trade out Queen for Harrison if you prefer.  Or get more DL help with Chaisson.   They picked a really good player, and it hasn't helped them at all.  If not for (once again) gross incompetence on the part of the Atlanta Falcons, the Cowboys are sitting at 0-4, and a pretty terrible 0-4 at that.

Smith is one of the highest paid LBs in the league. That’s a big investment.

Dallas decided to pay Jaylon Smith and Ezekiel Elliott over Byron Jones and, sort of, Dak Prescott 😁

The problem is the LBs can't cover so short throws are immediately open.

Hell at least Singleton understands how to drop on a curl-to-flat...

Have you seen any change in the offense with all these so called "new" asst coaches? How about the defense, any changes in the direction they have taken this year? Thats a big no on both of them. We draft speed guys over talent and we are still running everything the same way as last year. Maybe its the ex player in me that expects more then just below avg expectations and hope that gets us to a playoff game.

Yeah, that's one guy.  And I already addressed him.   Pretty foolish move, honestly.  He's got a limited shelf-life.  And given their history of injured linebackers (Lee, LVE), you'd think that they'd be a little more gun shy there.   But, instead, they decided that the money was best spent there despite the red flags.  Some folks wanted to get all bent out of shape for the Eagles not resigning Hicks to his deal, but with his injury history, hitching their wagon to him for big money would likely have been a mistake.  Of course, they just make that move look stupid by not addressing LB at all since then... but the Hicks decision (in isolation) wasn't a bad one.

So you're telling us you're a Panthers fan <g> ?

"BETTER THAN LAST WEEK"

Let me guess .. THIS is your version of Beautiful People

I wonder how much credit should go to the new DL coach. Our DEs are getting sacks like never before under Schwarz. And the DTs are playing well.

we’re 1-2-1

don’t F with us, beeches!

This post shows that you haven't been paying attention.

Now here's the GOOD Version.

Having 3 healthy stud DTs helps.   A rotation of Cox, Jackson, Hargrave is nice... mixing in Ridgeway from time to time isn't bad either... and a strong inside push, makes the DE's job easier, as the QB can't step up to avoid their outside rush.    Nice design matching personnel.   If only all the position groups worked out that well for us.

You don't see that our CB aren't getting roasted for 50+ yard chunk plays constantly like they've been the past few years, going back to McKelvin days?  Even Collinsworth pointed out that Slay's addition has allowed the Eagles to change up their coverage schemes.  McLeod played great last night; better than he's played in 3 years -- because he doesn't have 100% of the field to cover with two shabby CBs to help.
