That was a point Thomas made in the video. The interior of the O line (Pryor) was getting beat

Yup.  Pryor is not good.

Not to rain on the victory parade, but it's still very sobering to see that Carson Wentz remains the lowest ranked QB in the NFL, basically starter or otherwise, by nearly every metric. Lowest rating, lowest yards per attempt, most ints in the entire NFL.

Sure, but it's a marathon, not a sprint. We could be looking back in December with a very different view on Wentz. Just as possible is his continued regression. I don't put a whole lot into his September slump, but I'm more of an optimist than most I suppose.

Congratulations to you guys on your win Sunday night.

You expected that all to change after 1 game while still throwing to 4th and 5th string receivers?

And behind a patch work o line.

At one point kelce was the only starting OL on the field.

Mailata a rugby players 1st start playing next to an undrafted Herbig in his 2nd start at LG at RG a backup and RT driscoll who has one start came in and played for a gimpy johnson.

That's a lot of unfamiliarity that Carson isn't running for his life every play is a testament to stoutland and the revolving door at O line.

Yes.  Through 4 games, I expect our franchise QB in year 5 to not be, statistically, the worst QB in the league by nearly all metrics for any reason, regardless of whom he's playing with.

And if you think the WR's are bad enough to justify that, then Howie should be dismissed on the spot.

If Lane wasn't a question mark, I'd be considering Driscoll at RG soon.

Do we expect any receivers to be back for the Steeler's game?

Just giving you props. Philly always beats up on the Vikings and Bears. We appreciate you guys for that.

Meh.  Stats are meaningless.  The only thing that really matters is Ws.  And right now, that is the concern.  Wentz isn't going to be putting up 'good numbers' with... Greg Ward as his top WR threat.  No Goedert, and an OL that's in the middle of 'on the job' training.  The goal isn't to fill up the stat sheet.  The goal is to put at least 1 point more than your opponent on the scoreboard.  That's it.

Now, in doing that, he'll need to put up 'decent' numbers... decrease the turnovers, and 'manage the game'.  The INT in the last game wasn't a bad one.  It was 'one of those things' type deal.  Bad OL play on that down, led to a deflected ball (or was it a hit arm as he released?).  That is going to happen.  Other than that, he didn't really throw any 'bad balls'.  He didn't wildly overthrow any receivers.  He made plays with his legs, and he found a way to get on the same page with newly acquired/activated Travis Fulgham.

What I am looking for right now is progress and wins.  Stats will come... but not until the injured weapons return.  Getting Reagor, Goedert and Jackson (for as long as possible) will help.  The current weapons getting a little seasoning will help too.  But, personally, I wouldn't care if the team squeaked out a 3-2 victory over the Steelers and/or Ravens.  Just find a way to win.   Survive and advance, nothing more than that.

I think its the 4th and 7th string, honestly.  JJAW was the 5th, Watkins would likely have been the 6th.

That doesn't answer the question I asked. Also I just took a quick look at stats and it's not as bleak as you make it out to be and there has been solid improvement after that 1 game. I hope he's able to build on things for the Steeler game but with the offense we're putting on the field right now. I doubt it.

I thought mailata looked ok on pass pro, he had a few hiccups but not bad for his first start, meanwhile in the run game he too often looked lost as he too often blocked no one.

With his size and quickness he could be an excellent run blocker if he can figure out how to locate his targets.

Did you watch Peters this year?  He got out there on run plays, couldn't find targets, and couldn't sustain contact once he did.  Mailata was a significant upgrade over Peters at LT.

Also we beat you guys last year that was nice for us.

Yeah in Philly we lost 34-27.

You won't hear any complaints from me on that.

Mystery solved now.  Most definitely.

That's one pitfall.  I'm most concerned about the looks the Steelers can throw at him.  An inexperienced tackle can get their assignments crossed and leave someone unblocked pretty easily; we've seen that a few times this year.

keep it simple. protect inside out and feel the stunts.

When you ask your teammate in the huddle to turn around, so that you can read the nameplate on the back of his jersey so that you know who is out there... that's concerning.

That's bad if its one guy.  But, it was multiple guys during that game at the same time.   The first play from scrimmage had Fulgham and Killians on the field at the same time.  I literally had to go check the roster to find out who those guys were based on their numbers, because I didn't remember a 13 or 46 from the week before... or at all this season.

I did recognize Killins, but not Fulgham. That said Killins was a waste of a roster spot.

I will also say, you might have an argument about receivers if you're talking about Jackson and  Alshon being injured, but you certainly can't bring in young receivers for Carson to play with so they all mature together and then get pissed at Howie when 2 of them get injured right away. If you get Reagor back in the lineup and Carson keeps playing like he did Sunday night. There will be a lot of great games coming up.

All the defense has to do right now is worry about Ertz.

I don't know if this was posted but here is Tra Thomas's breakdown of his play:

I think its the 4th and 7th string, honestly.  JJAW was the 5th, Watkins would likely have been the 6th.

My primary concern is that they have already ruined Wentz.  He has been coached, partially by necessity, partially by design, to force the ball up the middle of the field to 12 personnel and to check down to a single viable possession WR (if that).  He usually has 1-2 viable targets to process on the entire field and then either needs to throw it away, run, or take an ugly coverage sack while trying to do too much.  It will be 3 years he has had to play this brand of football.  No one, even Peyton Manning, can just flip a switch into being Peyton Manning.

If you ask a developing QB to do that for 3 years...and then magically plant him in a strong offense with 4 viable reads and to be a prolific passer from the pocket...he's going to miss reads, misfire, and overall miss opportunities.  For 3 years, there has been no anticipation, no precise timing routes with WRs, no stretching the field and perfecting deep accuracy, no learning to reliably notice and target his 4th read...it's just been do whatever the heck is possible to scrape forward around the LOS and maintain possession.

It's no wonder that he has haphazard decision-making and mechanics.  It will be 3 years that the approach to the offense has been survival, rather than space, precision, and testing all areas of the football field.

Wentz has been broken down, mechanically and between the ears.  I don't blame him for that.  But he's settling in as the QB and centerpiece of a flat out bad-passing offense.  It's not easy to shed that approach to the position and passing game...from a dump off 1 read underneath game manager to someone that pulls the trigger quickly at all levels of the field.

Off of one play?  If we judged every player off of 1 play there wouldn't be any players in this league.

From camp reports, he sounds like a waste of a PS spot too.
