That doesn't answer the question I asked. Also I just took a quick look at stats and it's not as bleak as you make it out to be and there has been solid improvement after that 1 game. I hope he's able to build on things for the Steeler game but with the offense we're putting on the field right now. I doubt it.

Let's not pretend that bad is good enough by arguing different levels of bleakness.

Sobering thought

I watched McCarthy/Moore, Stefanski/Van Pelt, Lafluer, Shannahan, McDanials, Reid/Beinemy. and doug Pederson all this weekend.....

I'll you which system looked bland, predictable, outdated, boring, not creative.

Watching those guys call plays and then watching Doug makes it seem like Doug is coaching in the 1970s

Weird that a team missing seven starters would have a basic game plan.

Damn. Between this and Carson, you can tell the team was fired up.

IMO, part of that is a result of our injuries, part is a result of our lack of talent (regardless of injuries), and part of that is our adherence to 12 personnel.

Worked out well for the 49ers, huh?

My primary concern is that they have already ruined Wentz.  He has been coached, partially by necessity, partially by design, to force the ball up the middle of the field to 12 personnel and to check down to a single viable possession WR (if that).  He usually has 1-2 viable targets to process on the entire field and then either needs to throw it away, run, or take an ugly coverage sack while trying to do too much.  It will be 3 years he has had to play this brand of football.  No one, even Peyton Manning, can just flip a switch into being Peyton Manning.

If you ask a developing QB to do that for 3 years...and then magically plant him in a strong offense with 4 viable reads and to be a prolific passer from the pocket...he's going to miss reads, misfire, and overall miss opportunities.  For 3 years, there has been no anticipation, no precise timing routes with WRs, no stretching the field and perfecting deep accuracy, no learning to reliably notice and target his 4th read...it's just been do whatever the heck is possible to scrape forward around the LOS and maintain possession.

It's no wonder that he has haphazard decision-making and mechanics.  It will be 3 years that the approach to the offense has been survival, rather than space, precision, and testing all areas of the football field.

Wentz has been broken down, mechanically and between the ears.  I don't blame him for that.  But he's settling in as the QB and centerpiece of a flat out bad-passing offense.  It's not easy to shed that approach to the position and passing game.

I don't think its nearly as bad as you are projecting it to be.  Go back to Washington to open the season in 2019, that's not who he was then.  He was the gunslinger throwing 50 yard bombs to Desean, hitting his outside WR in Jeffery, and using the TE.   From that game on, they were in 'emergency mode'... and haven't come out of it.

But, he's never been the guy that you described when he had the viable weapons to work with.  He wasn't that guy in 2016 as a rookie impressing everyone.  He wasn't that guy in 2017 as an MVP favorite.  He wasn't that guy in 2018.  And he wasn't in the first game in 2019 when the weapons were there and healthy.  I think the issue he's dealing with is his own confidence and trusting what he sees.  And I think that confidence like that can be rebuilt, especially when you (eventually) get players back that you can be confident in.  His TD throw to Fulgham was a confident throw.  He trusted what he saw, and unleashed it... perfect strike.  He couldn't have handed it to him in a better place.  He's the same guy, but he's struggling to trust what he sees because what he sees are practice squad players as his primary targets.  He'll say all the right things, because that's who he is... but he needs these other guys back.  The 12 personnel isn't the problem.  With Goedert and Ertz, they would only need 1 more WR and they'd be a tough team to defend consistently... if that other WR is 'the right guy'.  Get Jackson AND Reagor back, with the 12 personnel, and the middle of the field gets wide open, or the deep threat opens up big time.  And even as Hightower gets more work, I think he can be a good deep threat.  We saw how the Bengals dealt with his speed.  Back to back penalties as he beat them... then they backed off and he was wide open underneath.

This requires patience though, as the young guys grow and hopefully, the injured ones come back.   I don't think anyone could have reasonably have expected the WR corps to be completely overhauled in a single offseason like it has had to be, without significant growing pains along the way.  And the injuries and shortened OTAs/TC just exacerbate it.  It sucks... but I think they come out better for it in the end.

Off of one play?  If we judged every player off of 1 play there wouldn't be any players in this league.

Nah, he just doesn't have it, plus he's very small. That said it's only an opinion I'd be happy to be wrong, but it sure seems like we could use some improvement at running back somewhere

From camp reports, he sounds like a waste of a PS spot too.

I'd like to see him on some N-S plays before writing him off.  Most of his highlights from college seemed to be him exploding huge N-S runs off.   (Not so much the end around types, etc).

Well, he was waived yesterday, so the team agreed with your assessment.  They may put him back on the PS, or they might not.  I'd rather they didn't.

Let's not pretend that raining on the parade isn't exactly what you wanted to do. Because you still never acknowledged that after the game which we won you start arguing that Carson still is at the bottom of  "almost all meaningful stats" when that game which we won he made some nice improvements. And when I asked you about it you made a comment about all the games so far.

Did you expect all the stats to bounce back after 1 game? Because if not then no kidding we already know he's not played well in the first games.

Still have a better record then the Eagles

I'll bet whatever wager you want they end up with a better record

I'll bet whatever wage you want they have better offensive numbers.

Answer the question.  In this past weekend's games,  how did having a basic game plan (when you have a ton of injuries) work out for Eagles?

How did not having a basic game plan (with a ton of injuries) work out for the 49ers?

I think those guys bend the play book, bend the play calling and create plays for the talent, or skillset of the guys they have.

Where doug is the complete opposite and just keeps his play book and expects a scrub to run the same route, the same way, at the same speed as Djax

Still have a better record then the Eagles

I'll bet whatever wager you want they end up with a better record

Yo dawg! It’s Steelers week! Who’s jersey you got? TJ Watt! Conner?

Speaking of PS, we should see a flurry of moves today. After Burnett/Arnold revert back we have 3 open spots

Did you watch Peters this year?  He got out there on run plays, couldn't find targets, and couldn't sustain contact once he did.  Mailata was a significant upgrade over Peters at LT.

Yup. Peters looked done in the run and pass game. Of course reports from howie at camp were that he looked great at RG then again howie is a glorified accountant so...😒

When dillard went down I'm not sure the hesitation to insert Mailata at LT. The guy needed reps and couldn't be any worse than Pryor and showed better than peters at LT and Mailata didn't say , if I'm starting LT I want a raise😡

Anyone know how long Peters is out for?

In high school we ran triple option wishbone and as a WR most of practice was spent run blocking, so I can appreciate a good run block from a WR👍

Booked. If the 49ers have a better record, I will leave this board for four months (end of regular season until a week before the draft.). If the Eagles do, you will do the same.

Good luck.

He’s on IR but idk if it’s long term. Hope it is bc he’s washed.

Packers have a bunch of late round wide recievers

How come it always comes back to injuries when we see a bunch of no names succeed else where?

It’s seven missing starters, including four on the OL. We had a rugby player making his first career start. A college RN playing WR. Another WR who joined the team halfway through camp. Our RT was in and out of the lineup.

It’s clear you don’t like Pederson, but you also have no interest in context either.

Seemingly that's the way of a lot of "fans" in here lately.

Fingers crossed on forever.

Or if Doug could grow his 2017 sack back, I'd love to see Peters come off IR just to sit the bench as a swing tackle.

So the Glenn workout must have been horrible.
