This team whether it’s Doug or Schwartz has a serious anti-meritocracy problem and they stick with their favorites for way too long. They did it with Hollins last season and it’s gonna be Gerry this season. Play the guys who deserve to play, not the ones you like. It’s a terrible message to send to the team.

The term "layup" is annoying

The throw he missed to Greg Ward, that everyone called a "layup," was not a layup.  He had a defender right in his face and if he threw it on target it may have been batted down

This "layup" talk is becoming as annoying as the "mechanics" talk where Wentz is evaluated against perfection rather than real life.

Again, last night the immortal Mahomes missed a ton of throws and should have had 3 interceptions and a fumble.  But again, he is bailed out by refs, dropped interceptions, a good defense, great skill players, and a great offensive scheme.

Mahomes has had 2 INTs taken away so as to not hurt his stats. I've only watched 2 games so it could be more

When you have a need for wide receiver and DK Effing Metcalf is still on the board waiting to be picked.  That’s the definition of a lay up.

He had a neck injury

I disagree. I think this is just a case of not valuing the LB position/being so desperate at other positions that they had to roll with what they got.

Quick, we need a definition of "layup".

That's not it

I guess, Jim.

The one that sticks out to me was Edwards whiffing on the SF FB (not going to try to spell that name) and Gerry ended up being the closest in coverage

But for the most part, Gerry is totally clueless and it really is an insult to the fan base to try and say otherwise

not buying that, but i think he is speaking to Edwards' blown coverage on the fullback vs SF

Yep thats what came to mind for me

I’m still shocked we won a ball game with Gerry playing linebacker

I know some love Mills but he blows too and Schwartz praises him as well.

I’d say you missed the layup.

Whoa.

They should try him at LG.

I'd rather him at RG.  Pryor appears to be the weakest link right now.

Mahomes played like crap. I’m sure the Chiefs message board is capable of agreeing with that.

But I’m going to keep using the term layup, because that describes easy and basic throws starting QBs should make. I really don’t care if it bothers you as a Wentz apologist.

You can use it whenever you want, but it doesnt make it any more accurate just because youre being an "analyst"

The reality is that a WR may run a poor route/not be where hes supposed to be and it looks like a "layup"

On tv it may look like a layup but you cant see that there is no throwing lane

But hey any time there's an incompletion we'll say his mechanics are bad and he missed a layup and we'll all sound like analysts

You’ve simply ignored a lot of instances where I’ve blamed WRs for bad routes and miscommunications or blockers failing to pick up blitzes, etc. because you’re so incredibly sensitive about any criticism for Wentz. It’s been that way for three years Mike. You have lost any semblance of objectivity here.

I agree it's a problem but that's always been a problem for coaches.  I mean Jim Johnson kept in Blaine Bishop when he could have used Michael Lewis.  Blaine Bishop was too slow to cover Joe Jurevicius who caught a 71 yard pass that led to Tampa's first TD in the 2002 NFC Championship Game.  So yeah - It's always an issue for coaches and it's an issue now with Gerry.  Thankfully, this team probably isn't headed to a heartbreaking playoff loss.

Ugh, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Arizona....3 teams that had no business beating the Eagles in the NFCCG.

NE/Philly in the SB could have gone down as one of the greatest sports rivalries ever.

No I read many posts

In doing so I read how you are basically blaming Wentz for the first three weeks, and when you say Wentz misses too many layups its just ridiculous considering all of the variables working against him

If I moved the basket side to side, gave you a watermelon instead of a basketball, and on every other attempt I hammered you from your blind side, I bet youd miss some layups too

No way. On Madden I don’t miss them.

Tampa Bay had better receivers and the Eagles/Banner just ignored that position too often early in McNabb's career.  If they had gone after, for example, Keyshawn Johnson, in free agency they may have been playing for the Super Bowl.

In all fun, Im going to take a shot in the dark here and say Your lady on a Sat night after a half a glass of Sangria and blowing on the back of her ear? At least that's a layup for me in my house :)

They drafted a linebacker in the third round this year and I don't believe he has seen a snap yet. At this point, what can Gerry give you that someone like Taylor or even Bradley can't?

I believe that 3rd pick was drafted to be a project. Even so investing a 3rd round pick into a position isn’t that big of an investment. Jordan Hicks was a rare 3rd round talent. Too bad he couldn’t stay healthy.
