I dont know... you dont have to look back very far to find awful divisions. I remember the NFC west was simply awful not that long ago.

Here you go (from 2010)

That was a bad division, but this one is worse by a lot IMO. Although those point differentials are terrible^.

Those Seahawks did beat the Saints in the playoffs though.

No, sorry if confusion there.  I wouldn't be shocked if he DID miss 5 more games however.

They do have some questions to answer at WR now however.

You have Watkins, Jeffrey, JJAW and DJack apparently all getting healthy at the same time.  Reagor will be sooner than later.  The Philly media sure is hyping up Fulgham a lot after Sunday night.  Do they dare cut the guy who caught the game winning pass so JJAW can dress again?  Hightower isn't going anywhere.  Was Burnett a PS call up or did they sign him to the roster?

Who's the odd man or men out?

Alshon

DJack

JJAW

Ward

Hightower

Watkins

Fulgham

Reagor

Burnett

I don't care if JJAW ever plays another down for the Eagles. I would like it to be Djax and Reagor, Ward in the slot for now, Hightower, Watkins, and unfortunately Alshon. The others will have to be practice squad.

True lol

Sheil on Mailata...

I was fully prepared to throw cold water on the hype, but I have to say, I was really impressed. I am not an offensive line aficionado by any means. But by my count, Mailata did not give up a sack or a hit on 34 pass plays. There were a couple of stunts that gave the Eagles issues, but those seemed to be more on Nate Herbig than Mailata.

The Eagles had an OL-friendly game plan. They moved Carson Wentz out of the pocket, used run-pass options (RPOs) and incorporated a quick passing game. But there were also a bunch of plays where Mailata had to block a defensive end one-on-one on dropback passes, and he got the job done. Mailata’s strength really stood out. There were a number of bull rushes where it looked like the defensive end basically ran into a brick wall. There were instances where San Francisco blitzed a linebacker off the edge, and Mailata knew exactly what to do.

Considering his severe injuries have been to his neck and spine, I wouldn’t be surprised if he called it a career if he does miss the rest of the season.

A friend of mine committed suicide a few years back because he injured his head, neck, and spine when he rolled a Kabota over a hillside. He recovered from the accident but later started to develop issues and they told him that over the next few years he would debilitate to the point of not having control over his bowels and such. He didn't want to put his family through that I guess. Brains, spines, and necks are nothing to take lightly.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. Back and neck surgeries/injuries take both mental and physical tolls. I see it a lot in the clinic.

Sounds like a solid 2nd round pick for the Eagles.  Can he run?

Not a running QB ,but can scramble if forced

Pro style QB with a huge arm, like a plus arm strength, accurate too.

Also from Sheil...

I agree that Stoutland has done a fantastic job. There’s no perfect metric to measure offensive line play, but ESPN created pass block win rate. It measures how often protection holds up for at least 2.5 seconds. The Eagles rank fourth. That’s with guys such as Mailata, Herbig, Matt Pryor and Driscoll.

Go figure...a game plan that is OL friendly that involves rolling Carson out.  What about a QB friendly game plan to put Carson in the best position to play his best ball...which again includes him out of the pocket.

How many rollouts does Doug need to call a game?

Thanks, it was a couple of years ago now. He was a huge guy (big and strong) , and one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. He would literally give you the shirt of his back if you needed it

If that's what gets Carson back in his groove I want to see as many as possible.  I know you can't on every play but how many times do we hear that Carson is better on the move?  How many times this year have we watched Carson in the pocket with an insanely wide throwing base.

It's more the coaching mindset.  I'm happy they called a game that benefited the o-line.  They need it.  What are they doing to help Carson though?  The guy has you and me to throw to.  The 2 and 3 RB are producing next to nothing.  They haven't exactly called plays that take advantage of Carsons skills.

I don't want to sound negative all the time, the team is just insanely frustrating...especially the coaching/personnel decisions.

Rollouts = (# of passing plays) +1 -1 X 1 / (100%)

I went back just to watch some of the plays from the game and that had to be a huge respect booster for Wentz in the locker room with the guys. I don't know how sustainable it is for him to be reckless diving head first, but he knows there is a huge difference in a 3rd and 5 and a 3rd and 8 with this offense with how much of a premium yards come by given the circumstances. This offense needs him to be doing that type of stuff because they're just in dire straits and that game was a must win. Him running 20 yards down the field on the 3rd and 34 during the Hurts play was pretty wild too. Again, not the smartest thing but he knows every yard counts and anyone watching this offense knows that's the case as well.

I just feel like it’s become this crutch for Eagles fans. If they don’t see a lot of designed rollouts it means it wasn’t a Wentz friendly game plan. There is a lot more that goes into it than calling them just because Wentz is good at it.

Are we facing man or zone defense? Are defensive ends crashing or are they honoring a possible play fake. Are they blitzing backside? You don’t want to have Wentz’s back turned turned with an oncoming blitzer. What is the defense trying to accomplish and what is the weakness of that defense?

This is another gripe I have with trying to get cute with implementing Jalen Hurts in to the offense.  Carson has been on the field every time Hurts has been in a QB.  He clearly is a decoy so you're essentially playing with 10 guys on the field.  You're also making your quarterback fair game for the defense.  Carson wants to block aggressively then the CB or whoever has every right to be just as aggressive with him.  So you already have an injury prone quarterback and you drafted his backup just in case he gets hurt but you bring in the back up while lining up your starting quarterback at WR.  It just isn't smart football.

But he had a TD on a straight drop back? I kind of wonder if they planned more deeper drops for him like they do with Mahomes if that would help.

I think running around can help Wentz get some confidence back again. Less thinking.

I don't think it's a crutch at all.  Remember this quote by DP?  What's stopping them from rolling Carson out on 1st down?  They already suck at 1st and 2nd down so why not put your QB in a better position on those downs?

"You know, I’d love to be able to sit down and maybe show you guys game film and study the tape and talk about scheme and stuff like that. There are opportunities. Carson’s a great outside-of-the-pocket thrower, and we understand that. But when we have 13 snaps that are second down and seven-plus – we didn’t do a good job on first down, whether running or passing the football. Utilizing an out of the pocket throw, a movement type throw when it’s 2nd and 13… I don’t know, maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. But I think you have to push the ball differently down the field. Drop back, play-action, whatever it might be. Screen. But everything we do it obviously starts with first down, and if you’re not positive on first down, it now affects what you do on 2nd down, then 3rd down and 4th down. I would love to have Carson out of the pocket more. He is dynamic outside the pocket, great vision and all of that. But we have to better on first down in order for a lot of those plays to take place.”

I guess not many since some considered the dime to Fulgham as a roll out, when it was actually a nice pocket pass? 🤷🏻‍♂️

35%

I already explained what could he stopping them from calling more rollouts.
