This is a bummer. He's played really well.

That's a huge loss for them up front.

His body type is built for OT.  How many DT's or even DE's are 6'8"? I mean that's why he was placed at the position.

Precisely. His raw talent screamed "offensive tackle" and nowhere else. If someone thinks otherwise, they're not too bright.

Calais Campbell is the only one that comes to mind.

Yup

I'm sure most of you guys have seen this but for those that haven't

Wow I hadn’t seen that yet. Thanks for sharing. I hope this guy makes it and if he does end up being a great LT we will probably be 3 years ahead of where we could be if he isn’t.

He hasn't had much chance -- JAX decided to jettison their "franchise QB" after 3 starts so they could run with a backup because -- he has a mustache, I guess ......

I think he's built to be an OT or a 3-4 DE.

Weird fact, Mailata is 2 years younger than Dillard.

So if he pans out, maybe we can get something for Dillard and maybe Driscoll becomes our new Toddfather by being the OL swiss army knife?

Yea, the age difference is pretty big.  He's only 23 years old and he's in year 3.  There's still tons of talent to untap and his potential is very high.

I think there's not many 3-4 DE's that are his size.

I remember a time not long ago in the blog that people wanted to jettison him because he clearly wasn't developing.

No, not many.  There aren't that many 6-8 350 lb guys to begin with.  Just thinking that 3-4 DE are usually taller heavier guys.

Alshon has a non-COVID illness and has been out the past few days

They asked what happens to Mailata when Peters gets healthy. Doug said for now it's Mailata's job and they'll deal with that decision when Peters can come back

I think if he wasn't an OT you would put him at DE.

Everyone’s fantasy teams that have murray and Hopkins lol

Also there is no timeline for JP....for a toe.  He's done.  Mailata is our LT for 2020 and hopefully shows he can be the long term solution at LT.

Starting to look like he likely doesn’t play until possibly week 6 and I’m guessing week 7.

I don't think they can bring him back until 3 or 4 weeks right? Honestly a little worried they will put Peters back in

I'm numb about it. The injuries plus the drama. Damn shame what happened

My point I've been trying to make for a while.  Such bad roster management.

They tried to get Doug to comment about penalties for failure to follow the protocols. Doug didn't bite

*Raises hand*

But to be fair, the Eagles had so much faith in Mailata they traded up for a first-round tackle In 2019, drafted two offensive tackles in 2020 and brought back Peters to be the backup LT. Then Mailata stunk in camp after missing large chunks of developmental time due to serious injury and a pandemic.

Not long ago there was basically nothing to be optimistic about.

Well, I think the Dillard pick was about value vs a plan to take a T.  I do think the Eagles were unsure about Mailata and so far he has started one game.  I think it is too soon to crown him the new savior.  I don't think his development makes OT that much less of a need next offseason.  I guess my point was that Mailata was young and still developing.
