I criticize Howie for a lot of things.  Extending Cox on that contract is not one of them.  He HAD to extend Cox and that's what it was going to take to do it.

But the back-end years of that contract were always going to be a tough pill to swallow, which is compounded by the fact that Cox's pass rushing impact has diminished a tad faster than anticipated.

Unfortunately, like most of our vets, Cox has very little trade value on that massive contract.  So few teams, the ones competitive enough to make those kind of moves, have the ability to absorb that kind of contract.  And a player's draft value basically equates to how far they outperform the cap hit they are locked under....not how good they actually are.  And Cox does not do that, so there really is no value, even though he is still a damn good DT.

They had Ingram and now added Dobbins. May be a bit absurd given they’re two different players but calling Wentz mediocre since 2018 is ridiculous.

Yeah apparently we just don’t run the ball anymore unless the run game is shown to be working after 10 carries. But we will continue to fire it down the field 20 times when that hadn’t been working for a quarter and a half either by wentz bad throws or oline falling apart or rb missing assignments.

Again, it's about the timing of it.

We averaged 8 YPC in the one 2nd half drive that worked to get us down field and then couldn't complete a pass to get back to it at all.

I agree running for the sake of running is silly, but I think looking at total numbers is leaving out a lot of context.

His weapons since 2018 have been a lot worse than mediocre (although his OL has been a lot better than mediocre), but his statistical production since 2018 has been pretty mediocre.  I don't think Wentz overall deserves that label, but that has been his production.

Cox hasn't had someone to help him out the past few years. They've added players but then it either failed because of injuries or it just failed. It's possible he's lost a step but he's been solo

Apparently Wentz was working on his footwork in the offseason. I didn't notice a difference. Still throwing high

Well if it works for the guys who play madden it has to work in real life. 

By the way, Ward is a JAG and has no business getting the load of playing time he got today without 15 injuries happening first, like last year.

5/31... I could do that. Break a tackle. Make someone miss. Get some RAC. Next week, give Hightower those opportunities to help him get going. Bring up Quez give him some. Ward is a complete waste.

Does anyone think Doug would bench Wentz this year for any reason?

My first instinct was to say no, but after seeing how giddy Doug and Howie were about Hurts in April it makes you wonder.

the only logical explanation for that pick to this day remains that they lost confidence in Wentz. You don’t draft a backup in the 2nd round otherwise.

This team has a leadership issue. It’s obvious.
