Did anyone mention that Darby didn't get his pick even on a day Wentz was serving up turnovers left and right?

Didn’t he nearly have one but dropped it? Game was a turd smoothie so I lost track of specific ingredients.

Yeah, this team really is living off the free agent signings of 2016 and 2017. Usually you don't win championships that way. But Brooks, Jeffery, Torrey, Long, Blount, McLeod, etc and Schwartz too I count as part of Howie's coups. Ajayi was a trade in-season. Those home run signings/trades helped cover up the bad drafting. Once those free agents regressed(which typically happens in short order in the NFL) it exposed the bad drafting, and Howie hasn't been able to make up for it since with perfect free agent periods.

Now he can't even if he wanted to with the cap situation.

The cap issue that will hurt the most is not the pending doom that everyone fears.  We aren't going to lose anyone important due to the cap.  (It "helps" that our drafts have left us with zero key players to extend).

In 2016, Howie added 2 excellent long-term starters due to a good cap situation on a rebuilding team, McLeod and Brooks.

In 2017, Howie added 1 in Jeffery, and multiple major contributors in Blount, Long, and even Torrey Smith.

In 2018, he used up their money extending all their SB heroes and did not add anyone via FA who would ultimately help the team.

In 2019, he added 1 in Malik Jackson, derailed by injury and Desean, who was functionally more of an FA addition than a trade.

In 2020, he got 1 in Hargrave and 1/2 of one in Slay, who was functionally half a trade, half FA addition as a devalued trade and sign.

In 2021, there won't be any additions like this who can add talent to cover for bad picks.

We aren't getting the typical 2 starters per year that come in each offseason.  It's all falling on the draft picks for next year.

Finally was able to catch the whole game. Was only able to catch pieces of it earlier. As bad as the OL was, I think Wentz was actually worse.

It was actually comical watching Avery trying to play DE today. At one point I wondered why we were playing a LB at DE, and I only realized it was Avery when he was getting thrown to the ground so violently that I saw his name on the back of his jersey.

Somehow that guy made the team over Ostman. I guess it’s based off hope.

This is a great photo that sums up our day.

For those who are wondering what is going on, and why our LG is trying to block their RDE, who is smooshing our RB into the QB, here's what happened. Mailata blocked the DT, and was doing fine until he was tripped by Peters, which is why he is on the ground. Herbig, our RG who looks like he is about to release into the flat, had no one to block. Seumalo was supposed to block Kerrigan, with help from Clement. You can see how that worked out. Kelce was able to direct the other DT, who was probably completely confused about what was going on.

That's the blocking scheme our coaches dialed up on first down trailing by 7.

And for those who don't believe it, Cory Clement is actually in that photo, and it sums up his day in pass protection.

Seriously?  50 fumbles in 57 games?

I posted it earlier...even if it's a hollow bluff...Doug needs to privately tell Wentz that he's going to bench him the next time he fumbles the football fighting to extend a play while contained in the pocket with a DL hanging off him.  We can see that Wentz basically does that once per game.  It needs to stop yesterday.

FWIW, he had half a sack today, but I don’t really remember it.

If the Eagles go 0-2, I'm all aboard the tank for Trevor train. Just about had enough of Wentz.

What a clown.

The long, deliberate looping "pitchers" release as opposed to the efficient "short-stop" quick release was also on full display for Wentz today.  In year 5 as a pro, that's just going to be how he throws the football.

Did JJAW even have a target today?

He was most noticeable as a blocker in motion for a couple dinks and dunks to other players.  I never noticed him run a route, but that may be because he hasn't finished running it yet.

The Chippah would love him.

12 personnel with Jordan Matthews and JJAW 😂

I bet we saw that at some point last year.

Nothing says great wide receiver like blocking. 😂

two positives i took away from today's game:

1.  our tight ends are very good.  i think ertz had a key drop, but i rolled that up with everything bad for today.

2.  if wentz can continue to get on the same page as reagor...  instead of the opposing team's db's...  we could have a good qb / wr tandem that could get yards in chunks.

nothing else really stood out in a good way.  doug hung out his depleted o'line today with too many long developing pass plays.  wentz did not help by taking bad sacks or making terrible throws.  doug also did the defense no favors as his bad offense put the defense into bad positions.  hightower...  if that's how he's gonna play, needs to NOT be on the field during gameday.  kick him down to practice squad or something for more seasoning.

Most seasons the first four games are the shakeout cruise, often teams look like meh, then turn it on down the stretch - Big Red had a few Eagle teams do that.

This season this will be exaggerated, no exhibition games, so guys like Herbig, Driscoll and Mailata were playing with no game reps under their belt. Good luck.

It'll take a few weeks to figure out who is for real, and who is a pretender.

The only thing worse than losing on Sunday is listening to the pundits talk about it until the next Sunday.

Well, they should've known better. Barry Switzer has a SB win on his resume, too.  But, nobody wants him as a HC. Somehow, they rationalized that McCarthy was a genius who needed a change of scenery.

Barry Switzer will be 83 years old in a few weeks ....

I know, but I was referring after he was canned by Dallas many years ago. Other teams weren't out to hire him because he won a SB with Dallas. Yet, Jerry Jones and Cowboys fans feel that McCarthy is going to be the answer and I find it funny.

Switzer wasn’t hired by anyone else because he was ‘shot’ at that point.  He was very good at Oklahoma, but wasn’t fully invested or hungry anymore.  He was offered and accepted the job because he was buddies with Jerry.  In the Troy Aikman episode of A Football Life, he broke it down pretty well.

McCarthy is not a bad coach at all — but the problem in DAL wasn’t Jason Garrett, no matter what their fans would have people believe.   Too much interference from the top and too many ‘me-first’ players in their nucleus

The OL will look at least serviceable when Lane is back in at RT.  IMO Pryor needs to be at RG as Herbig looked just awful out there.  I didn’t think Driscoll was all that bad, but he did miss some assignments.

Unfortunately Peters may have really bamboozled the Eagles; he was too slow and out of shape last season, and didn’t play well vs WASH.  If Glenn isn’t brought in I think we can assume the money he was looking to get paid went to appease Peters — even more wonderful.

A thin OL, and a QB who holds the ball too long and gets injured is a bad recipe.  Here’s hoping the WASH pass rush is the best the Eagles will see this season.

It’s a blow but the dude is overrated

Man, I still have a nasty taste in my mouth after this one. It feels like more than just a bad Week 1 loss. It's not good when you get bad performances from Wentz, Doug, and there's a lot of drama around the team. Big week for them ahead.

It is more than a bad week 1 loss. That's a bad Washington Football Team that we got up on and they came back at us. That's a bad team but we are arguably worse. They have more overall fire power than us now i think overall.

I hate the way Ertz has handled this contract negotiation, but the Eagles invited this. It's what happens when you offer an Eagles legend a worse contract than the last one you offered him. It's flat-out disrespectful and a total lack of judgement by Howie. I have no idea what they were thinking with that. It's like they were trying to piss him off.
