LB Davion Taylor, the only linebacker drafted in the first three rounds to not have a single snap on defense 🥴

We're fine there...

At this point they should just put Taylor out there and let him learn on the job. Gerry is giving up a completion 100% of the time he is targeted, so it literally cannot get any worse.

It quite literally can't get worse. Nothing that Taylor can and can't do can be any worse than Gerry.

I see your point but I really don't want to jeopardize the kids mental state. If he isn't caught up with the playbook, I can't put him out there and destroy his confidence. We suck anyway so at this point I'm numb to the Gerry disaster.

Honest question when the hell is will Parks coming back? I feel like yesterday is a perfect example of when you could have just f*** Gerry and went 7 DBs replacing Gerry with Parks and likely at least had a chance at better results.

I don't know what he did to that hamstring. He's been running around for about two weeks now but still not cleared to practice.

And every pass didn't have to be perfect to be caught. This is what this team sorely needs. Please keep it up Travis

I was thinking about that after the play. Did we even have enough healthy DBs to have seven on the field for that play? Slay was out.

I suppose that left Mills, LeBlanc, NRC, James, McLeod, Epps and Wallace.

Is Gerry on the field only because he gets the call from Schwartz? Was there an RB split out or was it all WRs and TEs?

At the moment we really don’t. I mean they numbers wise do like you pointed out but really its not the ideal 7 you’d have wanted anyway and likely you have communication issues as well as those seven i don’t think have had a ton of time together anyway.

waiting for the all 22 to come out to rewatch that play. I know it was 5 wide receivers and empty back field but i don’t know all the receivers the Steelers had Out there. I’m guessing it was juju, washington, claypool, McCloud and ebron/RB.

but if Will parks is healthy that I don’t want Nate gerry on the field on that play with how he’s played so far. I would’ve just went with parks. Not the parks is great but I think it’s a better option right now of going with seven defensive backs then having six with Gerry out there.

I'm looking forward to see Mailata continue to crush people.

I know caplan said on his podcast the other week it was like a 7-8 Week injury. I remember at first it was thought 3-4 week. But I really do think if part is healthy you’re not gonna have to see Jerry nearly as much. I think they will just say you know what will just go to parks and give up a little bit in the run game to secure the fact that teams are not just gonna kill us in the passing game Targeting Gerry

Mailata is a work in progress, but he will learn, and I swear, this team will be much better (outside of further devastating injuries) later in the season, because of all the young guys getting to play at two very crucial spots - OL and WR

I'm happy for him. He had an amazing day. It was also great to see him attack the ball in the air. He went up to grab it if it was high. Other guys wouldn't have made the effort that Fulgham did

This is the most important thing I saw from him.  He went to get the ball.  Eagles WR don't do that.  They like to body catch.  We need players with the attitude that the ball is theirs and they go up to get it with their hands.  We need that on both sides.  Breath of fresh air to see that from him.

One of the few bright spots for the girls.

Yup while our lone bright spots come from Practice squad/ project type players like Travis Fulgham and Jordan Mailata. Our high drafted players all get injured or just flat out suck (JJAW)

Anyone have any names they wanna pull out of a hat that the Eagles could trade Ertz for in a player for player swap?

i really think they could trade him by the deadline. Things seem to be souring there.

I'd be happy to get back the 4th they traded for Avery...who was invisible again this week after his monster game last week.

Which was predictable, considering he wasn't facing off against maybe the worst RT in the league. He simply regressed back to the mean.

Was watching the game with some friends at a sports pub and kept yelling out how the defense was lined up.  Was way too easy for Pitt to get 1st downs and big plays.  It's almost like Schwartz is saying I'll pressure with my front 4 and just let everyone else play back and keep everything in front of us.  Then play a little tighter once we get to the red zone.  It's a horrible scheme and doesnt work when playing good teams.  Yes it looks good at times when playing bad teams but that doesnt help.

I didn’t think Avery was that bad. He had a couple of tackles in limited action. Big Ben got rid of the ball so quickly we only hit him once in 34 drop backs.

If he's that emotionally fragile he's never gonna be an NFL defender.

I feel bad for Dak but what if Dalton plays well, they make the playoffs and maybe even the NFCCG or SB.

They'd have a Nick Foles like situation on their hands.

Couple of thoughts.

Yesterday the Eagles played mostly with four starters on offense (five if you consider the slot WR a starter) and put up 29 points on the number 1 defense.  On D, the DL had everyone, they were down their most instinctive LB, and half their secondary or more was out.  Our best CB was replaced late by a guy just off the IR, who is a journeyman at best.  Defensive rebuild is still in progress.

The good: decent play from the back ups for the most part.   Epps and Wallace are growing and playing okay. If they have any sense they start Taylor now and let him make mistakes and grow.  Rookies need to grow into positions by playing.  This sitting isn’t working.  Just look at Jones and Douglas.  They are playing and progressing.  Singleton looks better the more he plays.  So let them play.

OL play is better than one would expect from the quality of players but they have real issues.  Pryor is bad and Herbig gets a lot of help, which keeps Kelce from pulling much.  Mailata struggles a bit in the run game but that will come.   I am of the position that if Opeta, Brown or Juriga cannot beat out Pryor, move on from one of them right now.   I hope Seumalo is getting closer to returning.  The running game is suffering because Herbig and Pryor are stuck in a phone booth.  I thought when they drafted Pryor that he was a bad fit

Ward catches to much flack on here.  A slot WR needs to be quicker than fast and he checks that box.  Steelers focused on Ertz and Hightower because of his speed so Fulgham got the lesser DB.   Rodgers can be covered by a LB, which hurts the Eagles. Since our screen game is so bad, do some WR runs with Ward and Hightower.

The offense is growing.  Cannot wait to get Reagor back.   Loved the long shots yesterday.

Howie let an historic RB draft happen and waited and got Pumphrey.  He let and historic DL draft happen and waited and got Miller.  Last year, he actually drafted three WRs in an historic and deep WR draft.  I think Hightower would have been a high fourth in a normal year.  We have to have some patience with him and Watkins. I hope that means he learned his lesson.  Next year is a strong CB draft and WR draft.  If he doesn’t take advantage at the right point (trying to be the smartest guy in the room) he has to go.

I think something like this was posted earlier, but wasn’t sure.

From what I remember, outside the TD catch almost every pass from Wentz to Fulgham was money. He looked like a totally different guy throwing to him

He doesn’t check many more boxes than that, which is the problem. (Good hands is the other big one).

He doesn’t break tackles and creates minimal separation with his quickness, which isn’t anything to write home about. He routinely gets the easiest assignments week in and week out and essentially does the bare minimum with it.

The bar needs to be higher than sure handed and quicker than fast in today’s NFL. The slot position has changed over the years. Fulgham bearing the nickel and splitting the safeties for a tough catch vs Cover-2 is more impressive than anything Ward has done.
